Celebrities trashing Disney Princesses and voice actresses defending them

- THIS is why we fight for Cinderella and Ariel.
I can’t fathom how frustrating it must be for voice actresses like birthday legend Ilene Woods and ‘The Little Mermaid’s Jodi Benson to fend off these misinformed ideas on their characters both when their films came out and even now in the age of clickbait and tired takes where everybody feels entitled to share every thought that comes out of their head.
Imagine trashing the properties of the company while promoting their films like Keira and Idina did during promo for ‘Nutcracker and the Four Realms’ and ‘Frozen II’ respectively? Insane.
“Cinderella never asked for a prince. She asked for a dress and a night off” -Kiera Cass
She was just a social climber but not necessarily a gold digger.
true twas Snowhite wo wished for a prince
@@agnellinaonairda680 And I mean honestly, Snow White was yearning for a prince as an escape from her hellish life. She actually mentions the castle the prince owns more times than the prince himself, RUNS AWAY from him when they meet, and doesn't really express any love towards him as an individual. She wants out of the horrid situation she's in by marrying into a fairytale.
@@NightRainPanda to be fair, she was fairest of them all. She was just being prudent. She could have settled for one of the 7 dwarfs. But she refused compromise.
@@eduardochavacano But again, she's looking for the castle in her dreams. The cottage is not that, and if you truly think about it, she acted in servitude to the dwarves there as well. Also, she doubles down on her wish when the Prince basically sings her a song about how pretty and wonderful she is and how her life will go with him. She's got an image in her head of happily ever after, and she's going to get it.
They also missed the part that a man who actually liked Cinderella flipped a whole kingdom just to find her.
Or maybe that's just an excuse for foot pics
So true but I still find the fact that he couldn't recognise the person he loved from just looking at there face irritating 😑

In almost any Disney princess movie the princess all have a dream of their own that they want to follow but they also show that it’s OK to fall in love along the way and STILL pursue their dreams.
THANK YOU.
Finally, someone with sense!
thisss
this is exactly how i perceived disney princess movies growing up 😊
You explained that so beautifully❤
I was abused as a child and i always felt connected to Cinderella, she doesn't sit around and wait for a man its her fairy godmother that helps her have a little fun and then she happens to fall in love with a good man who helps her.
My mum‘s story is also similar to yours, she had a dream, she rejected my dad, he moved the country to marry her. Mum still tells me that sometimes in life we feel sad, but before u go to bed, in dreams, u can have a sweet dream, whatever u desire, use that to never give up.
Gotta stand with the original voice actresses here. They honestly understand the premise of the stories they've told.
It’s a simple no. It came off a certain way and Disney was okay with that. Do you know how many people would have watched and critiqued the movie before it’s release? They knew what it looked like and were fine with that. Don’t be a silly goose.
@joshuaadams6565 You're the one being silly. Personally, I don't agree because they are the original voices. I agree because I watched the movie and that's what happened. Romance wasn't their goal, it happened as a result. And Disney just added it because that's what audiences wanted to see at the time.
@@joshuaadams6565 the little mermaid came off as if she wanted to be a human anyway, hence the first fifteen minutes of the movie 🙄

if anything it’s her fairy godmother she’s waiting for, women supporting women
Yes, thank you. Cinderella is my favorite 😍
And after all the years her step mother and step sister put her through she deserved what she got
Yes but she wasn't doing anything to get out of all that abuse and slavery either...
If the prince had not come for her she would have just continued in accepting the abuse and keep going with the suffering ..
the next day after the ball she went back to the same old chores ...it was only when
She over heard her step mother that the prince is looking for the mysterious girl is when she suddenly awoke and tried to fet out of the situation...
Had the prince not searching for Cinderalla , her life would have continued the same way and she would simply obey her step family ...
*Like u can see the contrast between Cinderalla and Ariel ... Ariel wanted to experience the human world and in her ambition she actually PUT IN THE EFFORT to rebel against her father and risk every thing just to full fill her dreams* !!!
*But Cinderella NEVER put in the effort* !!!
"Rescue yourself, obviously" like it's easy for you
😂😂😂
I've always dreamed of having someone swept my feet away and carry me to a beautiful place where I'm being loved and cared for and treasured for. But, they told me it's wrong and awful to have that kind of dream. They said I should be a girl boss that can handle everything on my own, mow the lawn myself, wash my dishes, cook myself, sleep alone and my love for myself is enough to beat all the problems that I have.
I'm just saying though but the lawn still needs to be mowed, the dishes still need to be done. I don't think Cinderella or Snow White or Ariel have to do all this stuff after marrying their princes. Kind of a loss to all women in this world should this be the new reality 😂😂
@@norohmahliterally no one has ever said it’s wrong to want someone to love you, care for you and treasure you. The problem is when you expect another person to take your pain and suffering away. It’s not possible and it’s toxic.
No one said it's easy!
But no human should wait for another human to give them purpose and confidence.
You can only give that to yourself. Not from a true love, a friend or a job. That's the whole point!
Find your purpose for YOU and everything else with eventually align

I mean, Keira Knightley played a bloody damsel in distress in Pirates of the Carribean.
And she did it poorly 😂
From what I remembered, Cinderella didn’t even know he was the prince. He asked her to dance, she wanted to, and they literally just vibed all night - tell me any person wouldn’t consider that a literal dream way to meet their love!
Literally the song that plays as they dance is them realizing that they are in love. And expressing the feelings they are feeling. The smiles the prince and Cinderella give each other! I get romance not being everything. But I never found out why it's so bad to want a relationship or want to fall in love. I find it sweet.
@@Meli_monster because some females think of it as less girl boss to fight for love or give up things for love.
I did met a guy so at my HS prom. 🥰😍 lasted only 2 months in the summer.
The real story is so intense, istg. It ends good if I remember correctly, but still, really intense.
I don't think Cinderella is that dumb to not know what royalty looks like wasn't her father a Lord before he died, I'm pretty sure Cinderella been to those parties before evil step mom and sister got to the picture 😅 and looking how big Cinderella house is her parents obviously hosted some balls before. Cinderella's parents was rich they only got bankrupt after her father died because stupid step mother and sisters. Imagine she was crying by the fountain in side their property in 1800s not everyone get a big house and fountain that big to this day.
Ariel saved a man, explored human customs, and fell in love. Its called humanity. Its what humans do
Yeah and that's all she wanted. To be human

Honestly that’s me, I am secluded from normal world. Always pushed towards academics. I want a normal human life, where I won’t care more than what I can do. I understand her.

Exactly I just wish some these princesses weren't minors marrying adults but then again it was normal especially in the medieval to marry at such a young age... But the messages are all about these princesses having a dream
THANK YOU❤
Getting married to handsome princes was just a bonus for themselves, and one that I'd personally never be mad about🤷♀️
Ariel sang a whole song about how all she wanted to do was walk on land.
Cinderella only asked for the dress, the guy was just a bonus

Cinderella was literally an abuse victim who was running away
And the actress is like "sAvE yOuRsELf 🤪"
Bitch? You get imprisoned in a house hold all your life and see how frightened you'd be if your abusive mother found out you went out to just have fun.
Fr, she showed she was a lovely person despite the life she was handed. Her desire to enjoy herself was consistently moments she was the “most beautiful.” In her mothers dress, kind to her mouse friends, waking up to sing to the day, using music as she did the dirtiest jobs, and tentatively wanting to experience all the wonder’s available to her like the ball - it was these moments we thought she is the beauty.
And that is how good people came into her life like the “prince.” Don’t let the title of prince or the gender of a man blind you from realizing there are all kinds of “princes” waiting around the corner to enrich your lonely suffering
True
@@ohmygodbecky6829 if an old lady give you cookies, you’re gonna call her a “Prince Charming” ? lol what a stretch to justify stories that groom little girls to dedicate their lives into bettering men as people. Cinderella didn't even know the one she's dancing with is the prince. She even excuse herself that she didn't meet the prince yet, so that she can leave😂
"Rescue yourself". Cinderella already had a magical godmother granting her wish to have a nice dress and go to the ball. She could have easily asked for the prince.
Everyone clamimg the princesses are "man obsessed" characters, they're not!!! Ariel wanted to be human, Cinderella wanted to go to the ball, Mulan wanted to save china and her father, Rapunzel wanted to leave the tower, Tiana wanted her own restaurant, Jesus!! Watch the movie!
no frr
Just saying Ariel gave her voice up yeah to be human but also she had to kiss the prince before sunset or a few days otherwise she would become a like sea plant and you shouldn’t try and complete a task that could do something bad to you and is a risk and what’s more of a risk for it is you can’t talk then it’s even harder just like if you could talk you could tell the prince what’s going on but she can’t so don’t take a very very bad risk to be human it’s ok to be a mermaid being a human isn’t that big of a deal that’s the problem.
and just saying why did Cinderella marry the prince if she didn’t love him just curios.
Cinderella went to the ball and danced with a prince, Ariel had a crush on a guy she saw at a ship but she fell in love with him by giving up her voice Ariel did that just to hav a crush on a guy even though I’m not sure what the true story is about
@@bhavanijayant526 the real version is probably some fucked up shit from hundreds of years ago which has barley anything to do with the Disney Version. When celebrities never really watched the movies and then continue to tell you about them like they did… Cinderella is a great film. She just wanted to not be a slave anymore and the PRINCE who wasn’t even happy about the ball (he was yawning) until his gaze was captured by the beautiful Cinderella and HE perused HER! He scoured the entire kingdom to find her and fought for her when other women were trying to claim to be her. She was just herself. Incredible for the time 🙌🏻
They act like falling in love is pathetic 😶🌫️
Alternate title: celebrities that don’t understand the concept of animated fiction films
Theyre books originally and they're correct about the stories. The voice actresses are the ones only considering the animated, revised ideas
Sleeping beauty: Man kisses her without consent and saves her life
Snow white: Man kisses her without consent and saves her life
Beauty & The beast: Woman held captive, gets Stockholm syndrome and falls in love with her captor
Little mermaid: Woman gives up her own voice to be with a man (there’s a metaphor in there somewhere)
Cinderella: Life has no meaning or value until Prince Charming wants her
How are these “animated fictional films” that are typically shown to young girls, whose brains are still developing, supposed to be perceived?
Edit: Wow. I am not the first person to express this sentiment about outdated Disney films and I won’t be the last. Relax y’all lol it’s really not that deep. If you disagree with me, cool. If you agree, that’s cool too. If you think these narratives didn’t have negative affects on you as a child then great! Best case scenario. If you still like the films, awesome! Cinderella is the ultimate girlboss. She didn’t let the abuse she experienced turn her bitter or unpleasant, nor did she let it affect her morals. She stayed lovely and kind, and her whole story is about never giving up on that and soon, good things will come your way. Such as falling in love with and marrying a prince.
Same with Snow White.
The women in Cinderella's life abused her for years not the man
@@aimzjane3548 Lmao this comment so true. The man didn't even realize he was "saving" her he just wanted to be with her
Right? She didn't even have human friends well I guess her animals friends are better
Girlboss? Now you're pushing it. She was way too passive and annoyingly docile. Imagine your stepmother and stepsisters mistreating you in the home your own dead parents left behind.
Imagine allowing yourself to become your stepmother's maid and being forced to sleep in the cold attic of your PARENT'S HOME. Nah, she should've mobilized those fiercely loyal animals she spoke to and chased all three of them out with a big scare.
Being so kind to the point of being spineless is a major character flaw and the complete opposite of "girlboss."
Cinderella wanted to dance and Ariel wanted to walk. The princes were never the goal, they were the company.

In my opinion the older disney princesses were the strongest. They suffered horrific amounts of abuse and struggles, but they still kept their sanity, and kept their dreams alive. Then they push through all their struggles and find a prince, fall in love, and leave their old trash family behind. Just because a girl falls in love or needs saving does not make her weak. Its a basic human need to want to be saved and to fall in love. Not every princess needs to be a tough baddie girlboss who fights off everything by herself.
They are missing the damn point. Cinderella wanted to go to the ball and have a good time. None of these princesses were waiting around for a man to rescue them.

When you look for the things you want to see….so frustrating. At sleepovers, “ mom says these two princesses are man eaters, we can’t watch”. And… it’s OKAY for a woman to want to marry a man for any reason. If one more person says “slay queen”….
Cinderella is incredibly strong. She wasn’t “waiting for a man”. She worked hard every day despite the abuse and mockery of her toxic step family but never let their ugliness towards her change her kind, gentle and hopeful character. She’s a great example to anyone.

Yeah these are just bitter women without men who are still trying to tell everyone else in the world how they also don’t need no man- because misery loves company. This is the same reason you don’t take relationship advice from Chelsea Handler.
The little mermaid was to demonstrate the cultural barriers and how she wanted to have a new life beyond what she already had.
Cinderellas strength in every Cinderella movie is her perseverance of her kindness through endless hardship. That being the main quality of her character is still and always will be relevant to the audiences. We dont her to girl boss her way off a bridge
Cinderella was a hard-working young girl who was terribly abused but still managed to keep a positive and kind disposition. She worked her ass off making that pink dress on top of all of her other chores just for her stepmother and stepsisters to physically rip her dress from her body. Well said
She didn’t make the pink dress the mice and birds did.
Exactly! she was kind, compassionate, looked after the animals despite having so little herself. She learned to find joy in her life, but her character flaw was that she was letting people take advantage of her kindness. The process of wanting to go to the ball, then losing her dress due to the cruelty of her the stepfamily, then doing picking herself up to go to the ball anyway, that was the lesson - stand up for yourself, be kind to others but don't put yourself last, find happiness in your now but don't forget to look for a brighter tomorrow and grasp the opportunity when it arrives. Cinderella is actually a great role model. Given the time period it was set in, there isn't much she could have done to better her life on her own. However, she handled herself with grace and didn't let bitterness consume her. She remained pure to herself no matter what was thrown at her.
Very true. Plus, she never tried to fight back. Instead, she took revenge with kindness. She paid back with kindness. The prince who came to save her was just a 'reward' for her. That's what I thought.

Also, in the original movie she doesn't wait for the prince. The prince isn't even in the search, it was her quick thinking and her friendship with the other animals that saves her. She didn't even go to the ball to meet the prince.
Crazy to shame fictional characters for being unable to escape an abusive situation without help
i hate them trashing disney princesses and never catching other details about them
Anyone trashing ANY disney princess is automatically wrong. They fail to realize that Cinderella was an abused girl who wanted to just be where everyone was, Ariel wanted to know about HUMANS. Tiana wanted to own a business, Snow White just wanted to live a life of peace away from her evil step mother, Sleeping beauty was cursed for her father's wrongdoing towards Maleficent, etc etc etc
"anyone trashing ANY disney princess is automatically wrong" not really, Aurora, sure, while he saved her, he was just a random man who kissed a dead body, lots of red flags there. Same with snow white. So, there are 100% SOME that you can say they're bad. Also who is trashing Tiana?

Conderella just wanted to have fun at the ball. She didn't expect to fall in love
I realized a while back that it one underlying theme of a lot of Disney Princess movies is actually strong-minded young women dreaming of something they want, something more than what they're being told is their lot in life, and then going after it. Just like the joke they make in Wreck It Ralph, the princesses pretty much all sing a song about what they want.
I know it's a fictional character, but not Demi Lavota calling a 16 year old a hoe. You can't talk about feminism while also slut shaming a child 🙄
Noticed she has that attitude.
It’s a fictional character😭😭😭 plus that’s from 2014 and a totally different time

Love how we’re ignoring the fact that these young princesses had overprotective/abusive parents that forbid them from experiencing the lives they dreamed of- and they did it anyway! That was the message I got as a kid coming from a similar upbringing, and they only found LOVE after taking that risk to leave the abuse!!

Cinderella didn’t even wait for the prince. The prince was the one who look up for her.
Another perspective alot of women don't understand.... When a guy actually wants you and not because you were a damsel in distress is how she got the guy🤷
Exactly, she didn’t even know that he was the prince
She didn’t even want the damn glass slipper. But he was so thirsty he was looking allll around town for her 😂
And every single one of them would toss these ideals aside if offered money by Disney
So basically Kiera should ban her kids from watching 75% of any of her movies.
As someone who grew up with Disney classics I can firmly say: youre kid isnt gonna look too close into it. Theyre gonne be more into the fact that the girl is wearing a pretty dress, or that a crab is singing, or literally anything else. 9 times out of ten they dont know what the heck is even going on untill theyre like 7 or 8.
Kids dont know about gender politics, racism, even homophobia. Thats shit comes later when theyre taught about it. So instead of relying on movies and media to teach you kids good values, maybe try teaching them to yourself these values instead and just let them watch whatever children's movie they want
Yess you're spitting all the facts!
literally this👏
AGREE......
As kids we enjoyed the beauty and the feelings as it is without overanalyzing everything 😊
Actually true because when I watched them, the only thing I cared about it is happy ending lol. 😂
You clearly know nothing about human psychology the stories go into the subconscious wether the child is aware or not but yes you’re right the actual AWARENESS comes later on.
This is toxic feminism. Cinderella had an incredible kindness and work ethic, she LEFT the prince at the ball. She wanted to go have fun. Ariel wanted to be human, and THEN fell in love.
Exactly. With Ariel especially, she wanted to be human desperately. It only LATER became a true desire because she fell in love with a human man. Plus, feel like a lot people forget she was TRICKED into giving up her voice (something the new movie ignores honestly). She didn’t give up her voice for a man, she was tricked into giving up her voice so she could have the life she always dreamed of, the catch was she had to get the man too. She was tricked, BY A WOMAN, who convinced her getting them man (who she already wanted anyway) was the best way to become human forever, not the other way around (being she had to be a human to get the man). If anything the Disney retelling of the little mermaid is a story about toxic feminist and how it can go too far, not patriarchy.
People really give so many princesses a hard time for no real reason. They say Ariel was man crazy and gave up her voice for Eric, but Ariel desperately wanted something new and took Ursula's deal because Ursula coerced her. They say Cinderella waited for a man to fix her life, yet Cindy only wanted ONE NIGHT to have fun for once, and didn't pursue the prince afterwards; she only put on the shoe because HE was looking for HER. And they gripe about Belle having 'Stockholm Syndrome', but Belle willingly gave up her freedom to save her father and only connected with the Beast AFTER he saved her life and changed his ways.
@@sheltonr4268 I'm not disagreeing, just calling out a part of your message.
"she was tricked BY A WOMAN" "not patriarchy" - the patriarchy wants us to villainize women! That's literally what misogyny & any form of oppression does...
It wasn't until Elsa that princesses were able to be powerful & not be evil (maleficent, ursula, evil queen from Snow White) or be the main protagonist & not a motherly figure (cinderella's fairy godmother, 3 fairies from aurora).
There are definitely different versions of feminism. And if that's what someone wants to do to fall in. Love live happily ever after and no one can tell them not to and if someone doesn't want that then so be it. Do what you want to me the whole point of feminism that you've deciding for yourself and to hell with what anyone else wants for you
I’d say in a way this is more toxic masculinity. Anything is possible really. Have you noticed in marketing anything with femininity or having to do with women or female presenting it is completely suppressed and anything in favor of what is masculine is strong.
No one knows the characters more than the original voice actresses themselves
These celebrities need to come down off their pedestals. I'm so sick of their opinions.
literally all ariel ever wanted was to learn more about humans. she wanted to experience the world. after she saw a cute human and rescued him that added more on.

The way life should go❤
Good grief, they are stories, get over yourselves. At least let your children enjoy as millions of children have before, they can make their own minds when they are ready to read more into the story.
I am particularly dissapointed to see Demi calling Ariel names. Like Demi herslef has been publicly speaking about her own identity struggles and girl, you can't relate to someone who feels like a misfit in their world and wants to be someone else.
they forgot the actual theme of the story by focusing on chasing a man thing...
exactly! it was just the cliche for a happy ending to end with marriage.
It's disappointing that no one said they wanna be Mulan. Bro, she fought her best and brought honor to her family.
You know, maybe we can think of Cinderella in another way. From all of the time that she was abused, the moment she took a stand for herself, said she wanted to go to the ball and have fun, and stubbornly sewed a dress for herself all night, things changed for her. They changed for the better. She tasted what freedom was like. From the moment she decided she wanted something, she got it. Instead of maybe thinking that she was weak, what we can learn is to change something, you must change yourself. You shouldn't hold yourself back. Granted, the prince might have been the final key to get her out of that hell hole, but I like to believe she saved herself. If she hadn't changed for that moment of determination, she wouldn't have even gotten the chance to get out.
I hate when people trash Cinderella, they missed a lot of lessons there. It’s obviously not perfect but it has a lot of value
It’s modern feminism and it SUCKS they will literally do anything to say fuck men & to be better than them. If this was the case they shouldn’t need to do all this it’s a very poor way of asking to be equal whilst trying to overthrow, makes me sick.
Well, Cinderella was great at household chores, nothing wrong with that, if it wasnt such a mean stepmother to make her feel bad. Then she was incredibly caring, even in such a terrible circumstance. She lost both parents and still was such a pure heart to everyone, and especially the animals. Then she didn't want to go to the ball because of the prince. She just wanted to dance i a pretty dress. I bet didnt think of herself as worthy enough to land such a guy.
People think that if a person, esp a woman, is not Forceful, spiteful, aggressive than they're weak nd a pussy. When in fact some of the strongest people ik are women who are gentle, forgiving and loving.

If I remember correctly, none of the Disney princesses needed a man to rescue them or give them something they didn’t have. They’re strong female characters. The men were simply there to serve as love interests and in most of the movies, the princesses don’t even fall in love with them immediately. It’s saying something when people are choosing to see them as nothing more than damsels in distress.

Cinderella was literally looking around the castle before the prince saw her and asked her to dance! She accepted yes but she just wanted to be a part of the ball, not go for some prince.
Cinderella didn't want a rich man to rescue her. She just wanted one night off where she could create beautiful memories to reminisce on when her reality continuously pushed her down.

Falling in love with boys. Make them fall for girls and everything's a-ok to these women. Like, compare how women like Luz from Owl House vs. Ariel when it comes to romance. Luz has women happy and they root for her to date Amity. Because they're gay, because they're two female characters loving each other. Same with Bubblegum from Adventure Time. Super girly princess but she's in love with a woman, who also happens to be a more masculine, punk rocker who is more aggressive and butch. But Ariel is just a man chaser to them.
The buzzfeed level of media criticism from their old selves is wild
How can you not see Cinderella as an example ? As a kid, the movie taught me that working hard, kindness and staying true to yourself can help you overcome any situation. She was abused but she never let that turn her into a bitter and mean person. She stayed strong, but also still very feminine. She fell in love found someone who sought after her, not the opposite. He’s the one who searched for her throughout the country.
Cinderella is my favourite princess ever. She was in a toxic situation and used her creativity to remain positive while still being kind. She got the chance to get a night out just to dance, have fun and distract herself, the prince was a bonus. Also, the prince did a lot just to find her, that’s sweet.
And even if Cinderella got saved? Would that really be an issue? Do these people think that leaving an abussive household by getting saved by someone who truly loves you is a bad thing?
