hello to travelers just to tell you one thing Moroccan food is not Oriental it has nothing to do with it. Morocco is known to have a very great gastronomy. it is also often ranked in the top 3 in world competitions. do not be surprised to find certain dishes in other Arab countries, since they also like to reproduce and imitate. but the original remains Morocco

Moroccan cuisine is one of the best in the world especially the home-cooked moroccan dishes and specialities or done in well-known restaurants for their specialities, i wouldn't give any expectations to moroccan streetfood the last one is kind of hunger quencher wich also taste good.
Btw the pastry that you tried is the cheapst one for the ones on tight budget and also the same for the taste you have to pay 13 up to 15 DH on average to get a much better one from a modern patisserie on the highstreet not in the Medina.

I cannot say one is better, because it is born out of their history, the local produce, the mix of cultures. I can say which I prefer, but that is subjectively about my taste preferences and often also about your mood at the time and the experience you are having in country at that point in time.

⏩ Moroccan food is 100 percent Moroccan and has nothing to do with the Middle East ! (we are closer to Europe than the Middle East just 13 km 😉) Moroccan cuisine is an ancient cuisine that the Moroccans inherited from their ancestors, the Berbers and the Moroccan Jews, and their ancestors in Andalusia.

Moroccan food is particularly different than the Middle Eastern's To start with, we eat almost everything with bread! And you have just discoverd how special and fresh Moroccan bread is. It is another level as you rightly said. We use Ras alhanout mixed spices for seasoning ( make sure you buy some to impress your friends back in England when you cook some chicken or meat for them) Then we are not particularly fans of rice as they are in middle east. Also, Moroccan food, though colourful, is not spicy at all! But you have to try couscous, our national dish, and the equivalent of fish and chips back home. May be do that in Casablanca!

21:19 Translation: The cook :) didn’t know who the heck Gordon Ramsey nor Jimmy Oliver were, the sous-chef guy :-) was expressing his frustration with the Moroccan football when you mentioned football, he said “zero” meaning “failure, disgrace, etc.”, then he went to say “asha al malik” meaning “long live the king” of course the king of Morocco. I know it’s irrelevant, well, Moroccans, and I am one of them (living in California) have this tendency of involuntarily praising the king whether you’re fan or a hater, legend has it, the men behind closed doors add a mysterious substance to the chickenpox vaccine then give that to all toddlers AKA future sous-chefs JK :-) Love your spontaneous vlogging.

Well done to you guys. I have no idea how you managed all that food. I'm Moroccan and get overwhelemed. One thing though, as I you must have noticed a lot of people were reacting to you mentioning that Moroccan food was ME food. They don't mean to be rude, but this is a very sensitive issue because Moroccan Amazigh (who are indigenous majority) fought for their cultural rights for a very long time before the language and culture were officiall recognised in the 2011 Constitution, which finally recognised the puralist nature of the Moroccan identity. Before that Arabic was the only official language and a long state-imposed arabisation process was taking place since independence. Amazigh language was banned in official media, people could not give their children Amazigh names, and some went to prison for simply writing in Amazigh. Moroccans have largely reconciled with this past and are very accepting (and even proud) of their doversity, but yes we don't like to be called Arabs, because we're not, or Middle Eastern because, well, it's geographisally inacurate.
