    Much to my dismay, JT was spot on about Zach Wilson when almost everyone had him as a can’t miss, JT kept saying “I just don’t get it”.

    • @jamesmt95
      @jamesmt95 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah I went back and watched the 2021 rankings and he never said "I just don't get it" when talking through Zach's final evaluation. He mentioned that the group of four QBs were very good and an important part of all of it was what organization/situation they were drafted into. He mentioned that he was an excellent thrower of the football and had great upper body but wasn't sure what happened from 2019 to 2021 and was also worried about going from a small school to the NFL where everyone's faster and windows close quicker.
      He mentioned it would be a really tough decision if he was a GM to pass on Zach Wilson but he liked Trey Lance better. Logically, it makes sense why Zach Wilson would go over Trey Lance. Two small school quarterbacks compared side by side one at an even smaller school than the other and had even less game time than the other. Zach Wilson played two and a half seasons at the FBS level. Trey Lance spent one season as a freshman playing at an FCS school. His arm talent was also not as good as Zach Wilson's. If you're faced with the option of picking between those two because we know that Justin Fields was not as desirable as people were hyping him up to be then you're going to bet on the player who has at least more film and a higher ceiling arm talent wise than the other. Zach Wilson also produced on the ground, not to the same extent that tray Lance did, but all things considered you would rather take someone with superior arm talent and adequate rushing over someone with adequate arm talent and superior rushing.

I don't know anyone that would put a QB that can't hit the broad side of a barn at the top of the draft. EXCEPT media "analysts" like this dude. Loving that Young's ability to process information along with his ability to react to that information correctly has him above the next three QBs, all of whom have significantly better physical tools than Young does.

    • @unc54
      @unc54 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I don't think Stroud has significantly better physical tools than Young. He has a better frame and his arm is a little stronger but that's it. Running ability Young is better because he's more twitchy and nimble.

    • @jessejordache1869
      @jessejordache1869 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's it exactly. Sometimes Young's ability to read the field has him taking off, but he's not a "running quarterback"; he's a quarterback who sees in an instant what most people might get after perusing the all-22 for a few minutes. He takes advantage of the smallest throwing windows for his body and his target.

    • @TheRBReaper
      @TheRBReaper ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Bryce Young plays the position like Joe Burrow. Escapes to throw down field. A little more athletic but also a lot smaller.

    • @tvtda1
      @tvtda1 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The funny thing about this is, i say these two have tied because of two elite 11 weeks, it needs to be said that in the competitive initial elite 11 week Stroud showed up as an underdog not originally invited and not on anybody's radar and he dominated the week and Won MVP over Bryce, putting him on the map to begin with. You go to the camp a year later as counselors, noted even that week CJ had really good moments. Bryce edged him, and so in my mind head to head their tied. so it depends how you look at that. both have wins over Georgia, dominant showings over Georgia btw and Georgia had more success the more comfortable they got against Bryce. They got 2 shots at BY and i'd be curious how it'd go if they were more dialed in for a rematch with Stroud. also interesting note if you go to the manning camp Levis and AR had predominant Buzz leaving there over both CJ and BY, and Payton manning wasn't really too impressed with Bryce that week. but again depends on how you wanna view those environments in the grand scheme of the entire evaluation. CJ broke out at the youngest age, and he's been the most prolific over 2 years but then you watch the film then everyone is split again. Everything considered it still feels tied.

    • @bg693

      @@bg693 well 2019 is an officially evaluated, intensive weeklong competitive environment compared to 2022. notice whose coming up big in the biggest lights, it isn't BY. anyone arguing otherwise is being disingenuous. anyone trying to pull this in Bryce's favor really wants to stretch BY's 47 and 7, over CJ's 44 and 6, int to TD ratio their freshman year. it's pointless and if you do it with context you need to acknowledge Jamo and Metchie's existence, which then over a two year period would even the debate up. given Strouds far superior statistical 2nd season and overall officially more dominant statistical career. make it easy, its just 1A. and 1B. with these two if they aren't 2 and 3 respectively because we can go at it all day from different perspectives.

Inaccurate, 23 ints. in 2 years, fumbled twice inside the red zone against Ole Miss on the last 2 possessions and both times were in FG range down by 3. Can’t negotiate a pocket to avoid the rush so he gets sacked a lot, refuses to run for first downs, makes many bad decisions, doesn’t possess the intangibles that all good QBs have.

    Another great one JT. Curious what you think about QB development sitting vs starting. For QBs like Anthony Richardson, is it better for their development to sit and learn or to get on the field? Everyone says he needs to sit for a year like Mahomes did. And a lot of people say you can ruin a QB's confidence by playing them too early. But I've heard some QBs (like Eli Manning) say they learned way more from a year starting than they could have sitting. What do you think?

    • @michaelahurt
      @michaelahurt ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Doesn't it depend?
      Eli was a pretty polished QB. For him or a guy like Trevor or Dak they just needed reps because they have the requisite skills to succeed.
      Mahomes by his own admission didn't know how to take a snap or identify the Mike. That's an extreme example but most guys need to work on themselves and develop supplementary skills in some way. Footwork, understanding coverage, mechanics, maturity, etc.
      Destroying a QB's confidence depends on the person. You really don't know until it's too late. Troy Aikman was fine. Joey Harrington and David Carr were put in similarly bad situations (albeit over multiple years) and it changed how they played. Ryan Leaf didn't know how to handle adversity and spiraled.
      I think the general rule is you don't want to give people more than they can handle but obviously that's different for everyone so it's just about evaluating the person and situation and trying to make the best decision and have honest communication.

    Richardson is so raw. I don't know if he's a fluid passer, maybe more so than Levis but I don't see touch or nuance from Richardson's passes yet. His pro day imo also was telling that his mechanics are poor and he was likely coached to basically slow trot/walk around after imaginary hikes to set up his throws. Its alarming that he wasn't confident to run plays like he would even be moving at anywhere near full speed. That says something for me about how rough his passing footwork, body control, technique state is.
    Its very subjective to come up with a tier list like these so its hard to argue one way or another without knowing which team is drafting and their roster needs/strengths. Personally I think Hooker will be the better pro between the two. I have a hard time buying the one year non-wonder (stats) hype of Richardson.

    I think McKee should be no 5 as opposed to Hooker, with Hooker being no 6, only because McKee comes from more of a pro-style offense. It was actually your film breakdowns that made me rethink my perception of him and consider him a viable option for my Colts if we don't like the QBs left at 4 and trade down. I wouldn't mind adding some top-level receiving talent and OL in the first 3 rounds and targeting McKee in rounds 2 or 3 to take over our offense.

    Richardson barely functioned at the college level. He’s a 90% bust candidate and if a team were reckless enough to draft him in the top 3 he’d be a historic bust candidate. Young at 190 pounds? Not gonna be a solid pro. Even if we was 204 pounds every day he’d be Kyler Murray without the speed or plus arm. Flat no thanks. Young is too small to play in the NFL, and he will be hurt by week 5-10. I get he has it all, but size does matter in the NFL, and as you said, the best ability is availability. He simply won't be available for most of his career due to his stature. I wish him all the best, and have zero interest in watching any guy get injured, but the facts are the facts. His playing weight is around 184-187lbs, which is tiny for the NFL. He is going to get hurt early, and often during his career.

    As an Eagles fan, since Lamar Jackson is being traded from the Ravens, then they can draft TCU QB Max Duggan to replace Lamar Jackson as the team's new starting QB for week 1 in 2023 next season. Then Max Duggan can play against Browns QB Deshaun Watson, Steelers QB Kenny Pickett and Bengals QB Joe Burrow. Max Duggan will be an perfect fit for the Ravens since Lamar Jackson will be traded anyway. Besides Max Duggan can run the football and can throw the cannon out of the football. I see Max Duggan in an Ravens jersey sold in stores so the Ravens will draft Max Duggan in the 1st round of the 2023 NFL Draft.

    Damn JT I was hoping that you’d have Anthony Richardson at 2.
    Stroud’s relatively poor ability to escape pressure consistently, knocks him down to 3 for me. Most of the young and successful QBs have eased their transition into the NFL with a high floor of athleticism. The outlier is Joe Burrow. I don’t think CJ is Joe Burrow. I think Stroud is the best pocket passer in this draft, but pocket passers are dinosaurs in today’s game. he will require time to comprehensively understand NFL schemes to pick them a part.
    Anthony Richardson is a generation athlete with a great foundation to improve from at only 20 years old. With the documented rapid ability to improve, it’s hard for me not to say that he is QB1 from my perspective.

    I think Young and Richardson would be the guys I believe can become superstar type QB's but also more likely to not reach their full potential than Stroud. Stroud is just the safest QB in this class if you're so risk averse. He checks most conventional boxes you look for in a QB historically although I don't think he is an elite prospect. He excels and struggles with a lot of the same things as Derek Carr and Jared Goff do but from a clean pocket with good weapons, I think he can be an above average QB who's value comes in his rookie contract. I think he makes more sense for the Texans because they have multiple first rounders in the next 2 drafts and a decent offensive line.
