I like how you can see the fear in val kilmer's eyes as well as the sound of men screaming as he looks into the lions eye just to show you what kind of evil he is dealing with is a nice touch. I must say this movie is very detailed and delivers home the emotions and feelings of the actors. One of the greatest movies of all time.
A great movie. An epic teaming of historically Oscar nominated superpowers, despite flaws, both behind, and in front of the camera. From sound, to cinematography, to screenwriting, and more.... The Jaws of lion movies... is based on one of the creepiest stories in natural history, ever told. The Ghost, and the Darkness.
I don't know about you but thare is not really an scene whare the cinamotography looks bad. Some green screen things sure but they are almost second long shots. And sound wise its great. Between music and soundeffects and proper adr
There were only two movies made in this decade that were the closest thing to realistic animal attacks and man-eaters. The Ghost & The Darkness (1996) Predator: Two Lions The Edge (1997) Predator: Kodiak Bear
I know deep blue sea and anaconda were more scifi but i think they also kind of realistically scary it would be facing them. I will always remember the sounds of somebody's entire skeleton breaking kr the sound of skin beeing peeled away by shark teeth
They were also undersized because they were under-nourished. There was a Rinderpest Outbreak at the time that not only killed farmers' livestock, but killed wild-hooved game animals like Wildebeest and Zebras.
That was probably another piece of allegorical metaphor to the real predators of imperialism wearing whigs...butch women with no appreciation for femininity but to f&*k it
Being a hunter, I saw this coming when I saw the movie, but I just figured the sights would be off or a bad cartridge. NOT a click. Yup, you NEVER go out w/a untested and sighted in to YOU weapon. And that's regardless of what you're hunting.
I agree, but it seemed to take forever for him to show up. I can't think of another film where the top billed star doesn't appear until the 45 minute mark.
uthamanj @ 0:21 cause 0:16 is the initial shock. Anything that shocks has no initial thinking. @ 0:21 it's now where he's thinking and realizes he effed up!
According to the book Patterson wrote, it was that attempted shot that got him seen by the lion. The original gun he used was a side-by-side, and he forgot to use the second one until the lion was already headed away from him due to the noise generated by every worker in the camp making loud noises.
@@ceciliaolivieri5395 No one deserves death. A long life until old age comes upon them, though I am strongly against hunting African lions, elephants, rhinos etc. They're beautiful, majestic creatures that should be left alone.
@@ceciliaolivieri5395 Anyone that doesn't understand the purpose of hunting, especially in a place like Africa, needs to educate themselves before having an opinion. It doesn't get any more "REAL hunter" than an African professional hunter, lots of training and education involved in that and they make their living doing it. Without professional hunters to intervene and reduce numbers to manageable levels overpopulation in dry seasons can kill off entire populations, including threatened and endangered species. The same applies if a predator species grows beyond the available prey, they all starve. Disease can also kill off entire populations without professional hunters putting in thousands of hours to limit its spread. They also feed entire villages while doing so. They also are usually the ones that notice poacher activity and take steps to prevent it like removing poacher traps and reporting suspicious activity to get more people and attention into an area. Not to mention they solve wildlife/human conflicts that lead to tragic wildlife losses. Like when a lion attacks a person or their livestock, or a rogue elephant damages crops or houses a professional hunter can deal with that situation instead of having a lot of angry farmers going around shooting at everything lion/elephant shaped. Professional hunters do more for wildlife conservation and management than most conservation groups. Even sport hunters are a very important source of revenue, nothing is free and the money to undertake counter-poacher operations, control disease, or even do a population survey has to come from somewhere. In short sure let them die but don't expect the endangered wildlife they do a lot to protect to be far behind them since your hunter hatred is doing nothing for them at all.
When I saw this scene, when the camera is coming closer to Val Kilmer's face, almost to his eyes, there's like faint noise in background. Is it the screams of the workers that the lions has killed?
.........my god....i.ii have just stared into the eyes of Death himself....... that look but I'd probably be Pisted throwing the dam rifle down screaming HE GAVE ME A UNLOADED GUUN!!!!!! then probably bitched slap his ass s Yelling what the HELL man?! You almost got me killed!!!
The doctor's rifle was larger calibre, so he said he had more chance of bringing down the lion with the first shot. But that assumes that the rifle fires...
I wondered what if the saber tooth tiger or the cave lion survived the Ice Age. Or better yet the t-rex and the utahraptor survived!! Would the lion wins or the raptors!!?
John Nguyen Considering we literally know nothing about dinosaurs aside from how their bones look and base every "fact" on popular opinion, we can't be certain who would win.
Look up Bob Gymlan on TH-cam. He does narrations about cryptids and he did one about the Tsavo man eaters. He even did one about the lions vs raptors. Watch it, it’s very interesting.

@Imagining_The_Fold Exactly I always said this is probably val kilmer's best performance. Michael Douglas too. Phenomenal acting
Even the lion is like “ wtf bro , unproven rifle , really bro “
Man, there were some brilliant quotes in this movie, great dialogue, intense... whew
Thanks, have a terrific day!
Yeah, really was Owned this movie for a long time now One of my favorite ones honestly

I even don't know
How many times I have seen this movie scene by scene word by word ... you may guess what a piece of art this movie is
It's like you can sense the evil coming from the Lion's gaze.
the two loudest sounds in the world: a BANG when you expected a CLICK, and a CLICK when you expected a BANG
& a lot of old man called it the 2 SCARIEST sounds in the world lol
0:16- one of the biggest "Oh shit..." moments in movie history.
When Dr Henry "Hank" Pym met Bruce Wayne...and both tried to kill two supernatural lions
Black Panther too
this lion's eyes is the biggest nightmare of my life. I swear

YOU EXCHANGED WEAPONS. YOU WENT TO BATTLE WITH AN UNPROVEN RIFLE ?!?!?!?!
Classic and excellent scene.
Interesting fact about the real Tsavo man eaters; they didn’t have manes.

greattt film.
You will never kill anything that is already dead
This scene is pivotal for later on when Remington asks Patterson if he can control his fear
And then later when he faces the Darkness one on one.
I would've been shitten my pants of if my gun wouldn't go of especially if there's a big lion coming at you !!!!!!!
I wonder why his gun jammed cause it’s like that lion was taunting him! Lol 😂
It's an older model make, and while the model is ideal for game hunting
Older weapons like that are prone to jamming from dust and wear.
this is my movie I love this movie.
This movie gave me a HIGH GRASS TRAUMA. Nowadays I look in every damn yellowish bush. I reaffirm it's not Africa and then I feel much better. Damn.

Any particular reason why they always use tiger roars for lions?
more menacing?
I never heard tigers sounding like this and they had real lions on set acting so why wouldn't they use their roars?
