That's the first time I've heard a parallel between D'Angelo and Namond, and it makes so much sense! I love that scene with Bunny and Weebey "I'm talking about Namond here Mr. Brice" but it never really clicked for me why Bey agreed until you brought up that Dee/Namond parallel from Bey's perspective
It didn’t dawn on me that Wee Bay was mentoring Dee. But the signs was there because Avon never yelled at him. He was always teaching him and with those clips, I never realized Wee Bay was quick admonished him.
That's one thing I enjoyed about the later seasons. You saw all the parallels between the old and new generation, and how the streets took them from kids to the end results. Webey figured some stuff out and is breaking the cycle for his son.
Bruh, I grew up in 70's West Baltimore, this show was not my experience, but straight up as a fan of the show, I've NEVER heard it articulated this way. It's funny. I moved to Philly at age 15 and I can hear the (philly) in your speech while explaining the Bmore of the show. Fire. Subbed my dude, and liked... keep them coming.
@@TheHow707 Philly had gangstas of their own; I went to Howard U and while living in D.C. used to hang out with an older guy from Philly named Charlie Byrd; damned the dude was Gangsta' back when it was spelled with an "ER" he used to run the old Summerville gang in Germantown in the 70's. As far as the whole gangster thing goes that brother must have been a rockstar because I got to be really cool with a group of brothas from West Philly and I mentioned his name, it was like I said I knew Michael Jordan, these dudes were adamant; I had to take them around so they could meet him........

Wee Bey is the illest and most legendary character on The Wire. I agree season 1 was the best. It had more layers. Marlo, Snoop and Chris were dark AF. Like Grim reapers. Season 1 was a different era. Stringer was dark just like Marlo crew. That's why he had to go. Salute to Wee Bey. True soldier of The Wire.
Just brilliant! Another way of saying “I agree.” Your explanations help me organize bits of theme and disparate facts. You are the best television critic I read/watched. Like, The New Yorker should be proud if you worked for them. Again, brilliant.
I been a police since right before season one. I have watched every episode several times, and own some on DVD. Every time I go back, I see something new. I want to thank you, tho, for bringing me a perspective I could have never known. Your insight through the lens of your life experience in these videos allows me to more fully appreciate the genius behind this series. Thank you for bringing that, and please keep it up. I'm a fan.
The parallels between characters are always brilliant on this show but damn the Namond/D’angelo one is deep! It was easier to see Namond becoming Clay Davis but he definitely was D position wise.
Great vid again. Subtle point that showed Weebay's personality was in his Omar shootout despite being completely surprised he moved TOWARDS Omar in the shootout. E.g. forward. Says a lot about him. I see a lot of similarities between Weebay, Slim and Omar. All strong "codes" and a good meta awareness of their position in their worlds. Last of a generation I feel before the ruthless wave of Chris/Snoop muscle.
Great observation bro, Weebey did the same thing in the second shootout with Omar. Bey heard shots and immediately ran towards the danger zone. It was Bey that made Omar run to New York after he came at the king and missed.
@@RenzoPeterson153 Oh really. Didn't realize he did it both times. Forgot to check that shootout. Loved Weebay. Not a single character in the Wire that didn't have a deep backstory.
I totally agree with you. I remember not loving it the first time around but watching it again it was extremely well done. So much shit went down. I just had a really hard time with Iggy, he was the most annoying character by far. I get that he felt he had a lot to prove but he was so incredibly stupid.
Man this video was amazing, I loved dee, and bey was one of the coolest characters in the show, but he wasn’t cool because he could kill without thinking on it, he was cool because he stayed true to his word, followed the rules, and in the end was able to be there for his son in the best way he could. The wire is truly so good for the stories that they don’t tell you, the stories that you uncover on a second watch, and even all the trough lines and parallels in scenes that seemingly might not matter. it paints this picture of how the injustice involved in some of the systems in place can create these almost lose lose situations for the lower class, and in some cases the branches of the government causing problems for the other systems in place. It’s a broken cycle that almost always is reflected in the street.
I remember watching for the first time when Wee-Bey says "...and anywhere you call home. It'll be my name that finds you" and DeLonda looks terrified because she knows that his name carries such respect that if he tells Avon or Stringer that she's gotta go, then she's gone. No questions asked. She lives on a knife's edge. She wanted to be part of the game and be gangster but didn't think through the consequences of attaching herself to a soldier/assassin. She figured that having Namond and being attached to Bey would set her up for life and give her a rep. She didn't realise that in the scheme of things she's kinda worthless and expendable. Double edged sword.
Good work man. Great analysis. Really thought provoking video essay. Wee-Bey, the good soldier. The pawn who became a knight who became, at last, a king. I could be wrong, but it's got me thinking about The Wire all over again.
My man... your analysis on Wee-bey was soooo on point. I can wait to go through your channel for more on the best show ever to depict street life in Baltimore. Yea I definitely put season 3 at my #1 as well, and I can agree with the remaining order as well, even tho Barksdales crew wasn't as strong as they were in season 1, they definitely had the ups on Marlo if Stringer didn't pull that telling card on Avon..

Each one of the 60 episodes are absolutely essential. Every season is a masterpiece, a different perspective of the downfall of the American empire. In the words of Det. Lester Freemon, 'All the pieces matter...' Your observations of Wee-Bey are on point. I think similar insights can be drawn from most of the players. I was brought up on tv from the late 50's... without a doubt, 'The WIRE' is the best the medium has ever produced. It is beyond entertainment. Baltimore is the biopsy that identifies the terminal diseases infecting America. Unfortunately, the prognosis is not good.

Seriously though not glorifying the streets it's not glamorous but he understood no one made him do any of that shit I mean hell even Avon when they was talking in the cell didn't know some work Weebay did which tells you he's not looking for a name & what he does for a living was truly him. He took responsibility for his actions alone didn't blame no one didn't feel some type of way towards Avon going in & getting out super fast & he didn't look at Stringer funny when he didn't get booked. Weebay was real as they come besides how tall he stood for the crew what made me really tip my hat towards him was when he let his only child his only son have a future outside his name to live with Bunny Colvin says a lot about his character as a man. Shot out to Bunny Colvin as well for when he talked to Weebay he treated him with the up most respect & never looked down or act like he was better than him.
Marlo wouldn't have had a chance if Avon had Wee Bay, Stringer, Bird, Stinkum, Savino, Little Man, etc. They had a stacked crew. Chris and Snoop couldn't or wouldn't go against those hitters. The fucking A-Team with WeeBay as there Commander
I disagree. Snoop and Chris were serial killers. They were emotionless killers. Yes they all are when it comes down to it. But not everybody can pull out teeth and dismembered bodies. Bruh I ran through all of your Wire videos it feels good to get commentary from someone who understands not just the game but also the mentality of street niggas. You got my sub & my likes keep rolling my brother.
Son your analysis on plot threads and how they mirror each other is crazy . Next I rewatch I’m watching your videos.
Great video. I love the final scene where you see that Wee Bey and Chris are friends, they made the same sacrifice for their bosses.
The irony of being on opposite sides ( of a war) , being expendable at the end!
@@gregorylibra5114 that’s how life be sometimes you see how you got a glimpse of marlo and Avon making peace. I got nothing but love in my heart ❤️ for west side niggas ( pumps chest )
@@righteousmasculine , and he said " fuck them Eastside bitches", shit was lit (Avon).
@@barrettlovett2238 facts bro
You think Chris is an Iraq veteran? It would explain his ability to soldier, also he doesn't dress the same as most characters. The others dress baggy hip-hop or at least try to be stylish, whereas Chris dresses like a Scottish brewer. I think his background is different.
Dog I have no clue how it got here but bruh! This is FIRE!!!! The wire my favorite show and I’m from Seattle. You’d be surprised how many people out here who have never seen it.
Wee Bey for sure one of my top three characters from The Wire. The thing is, I really noticed it when I rewatched the show (multiple times). He one of the realest in the entire show.
You're a great story teller. From tone to the plot and everything in between! Thanks
Remember who you talkin to right here my word is my word in here in Baltimore or any place you think about calling home it's going to be my word that finds you
Telling her it would be my word that finds you spoke volumes about his character. Last of a dying breed
Real SHYT!
....Right!!!
That will ALWAYS be one of the coldest lines ever. I wait for the day i can use it myself
Dalonda just about shit herself
Season 4 is one of the many reasons why I go so hard as a mother. Why I made sure to have a strong husband and father in my son’s life. Why I am so big on emotional health and not controlling, but guiding & protecting my little one.
It might be not be the best season...but it does something to my heart that I can’t explain.
💯
Chris and webay are the most loyal characters in the show. Bodie was the most stubborn along wit Avon
Wee Chris slim Charles
Those 3 are the most loyal and best soldiers
Me and my sister talk the niggahs from our neighborhood weebay was somebody would invite to our home, but Chris we would stay away from always.
@@anthonymede9216 Chris had a whole ass family he took care of and weebey was out there banging dead girls and rolling em up I'm carpets tho
Bodie was true foot soldier and earner never ment to be a top guy but the guy you want on the street that’s the guy u bail out and keep around he would have fit perfectly with prop joe give me bay Michael as my hitters dukie ( as my front man ) and slim as my 2nd vs Marlo and who ever it’s over with god forbid I have poot or doughnut as my wild card ( bodie would be over kill and ppl slept on poot ).
Slim Charles was the most loyal to the game out of all the characters.
One of favorite scenes in the show was only 3 seconds…. seeing Weebey and Chris possibly trading war stories . Under-rated and super respected characters.
I’m a real wire fan. Season one is the best season. Man the breakdown of comparing Dee to Namond was excellent. New sub.
Season 1,2 3,and 5.Season 4 I like the introduction, but it fell someone flat.
Dee was hard but had morals, Namond was fronting off of his fathers reputation but was as soft as McDonald’s ice cream
@@anthonymede9216 season 5 was the worst to me it felt like it was rushed and they could have taken out that newspaper arc and kept it more about the streets and the corrupt politics
@@antoniobaugh707 season 5 was good

Wee Bay was the most grimy believable character of the show. Really wish he could have had a showdown with Marlo. Bruh was that dude.
The biggest letdown of the entire show was Avon getting popped off when they had the drop on Marlo. 🤦♂️ Every time I watch it I get pissed.
Had Wee Bay been on the street for the marlo war, you would’ve said Marlo who?
@@407cedricbad hell Wee-Bey and Bird would've cleaned up Marlo and company.

Aww man thanks. Don’t make me big headed lol I appreciate it tho 💯
@@ogre7737 there's a clip of Avon chewing out Dee in this video
That's one thing I enjoyed about the later seasons. You saw all the parallels between the old and new generation, and how the streets took them from kids to the end results. Webey figured some stuff out and is breaking the cycle for his son.

Bruh, I grew up in 70's West Baltimore, this show was not my experience, but straight up as a fan of the show, I've NEVER heard it articulated this way. It's funny. I moved to Philly at age 15 and I can hear the (philly) in your speech while explaining the Bmore of the show. Fire. Subbed my dude, and liked... keep them coming.
So you really grew up in Philly'

As far as the whole gangster thing goes that brother must have been a rockstar because I got to be really cool with a group of brothas from West Philly and I mentioned his name, it was like I said I knew Michael Jordan, these dudes were adamant; I had to take them around so they could meet him........

No lie the way you broke all that down had me how Wee-bey was when Stringer told him shorty was a cop, that famous meme where he looked surprised lol, that's exactly how I was, because certain stuff I didn't even catch back then, good knowledge of that show, appreciate your work my guy...💪🏾
Another way of saying “I agree.”
Your explanations help me organize bits of theme and disparate facts.
You are the best television critic I read/watched. Like, The New Yorker should be proud if you worked for them.
Again, brilliant.
Thanks homie🙏 I’ll keep them coming for you. If you have a favorite character lmk
Wow. Good observation bro 👌🏽
Dope video my Brother. Love breakdowns of the wire.
You can’t forget season 2. I didn’t like it at first, but now it’s one of my favorite seasons.
I totally agree with you. I remember not loving it the first time around but watching it again it was extremely well done. So much shit went down. I just had a really hard time with Iggy, he was the most annoying character by far. I get that he felt he had a lot to prove but he was so incredibly stupid.
I just finished watching season 1 for the 100th time. This is by far an exceptional take in the show. I appreciate it brother.
You gotta got a good channel here and your analysis is definitely on point you definitely a true wire fan best series created till this day 💯
Just started back watching this show.. West Baltimore native, these videos came at a good time 👊
💯
You broke it all the way down! Excellent analysis and great points.
That is, without a doubt, the best wire review and analysis I've ever heard. You Sir are a true fan. Amazing Video
Thanks BillyC👌🏽💯
Yet Weebay chose her ..laid down with her..and contributed in having a child with her..while in the game..
Hell yea bro a man's man webay we need tht new content bro u got one of the best shows out keep doing ur thing!!
Good work man. Great analysis. Really thought provoking video essay. Wee-Bey, the good soldier. The pawn who became a knight who became, at last, a king. I could be wrong, but it's got me thinking about The Wire all over again.

McNulty convincing Brianna that she failed her son, and Michael leaving his little brother are two of my favorite scenes.
My man... your analysis on Wee-bey was soooo on point. I can wait to go through your channel for more on the best show ever to depict street life in Baltimore. You should review season 2. Most people dislike it on the first watch, but grow to appreciate it after rewatches. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts.
I dig the channel. Seen THE WIRE 14 times all the way through. Read literally every book about it. Seen just about everything on TH-cam and it's not only my favorite show but it's my favorite work of art no matter the medium. Season 4 is still my favorite. Not a casual viewer. The Wire is a big part of my day to day life and has been for about a decade.
I've always listed my favorite seasons in order like this, 3,1,4,2,5
Great minds think alike lol
Yea I definitely put season 3 at my #1 as well, and I can agree with the remaining order as well, even tho Barksdales crew wasn't as strong as they were in season 1, they definitely had the ups on Marlo if Stringer didn't pull that telling card on Avon..
I partially agree, but I would have to put 2 last.
Season 2 is the most important Season
Season 2 is the least favorite but it’s so important for the build up of plot and characters.
Man! I couldn't agree with you more. Wee bey was one of my favorite characters in the show and season one set up the show for the seasons to come. Can't believe I missed your podcast this is dope! Got me 🔔
You did a great job breaking down the wire👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
As a wire fan...you are on point my G
Each one of the 60 episodes are absolutely essential. Every season is a masterpiece, a different perspective of the downfall of the American empire.
In the words of Det. Lester Freemon, 'All the pieces matter...'
Your observations of Wee-Bey are on point.
Aye yooooooooo! You absolutely right, Namond is Deangelo. That's why The Wire is my ALL TIME favorite.

I'm so fucking happy to run into this channel finally someone that sees the wire like me. I love how you go into indepth all characters and situations throughout the wire honestly I would love to sit down and write out a movie with you bro
Gotta fw weebay...he aint bring nobody down with him...all he wanted a pit beef sandwich😂
Wit a lot of horseradish and some tata salad
& make sure you don't try & short him by giving slaw instead of his tata salad.
Medium rare lotsa horseradish....
You’re thorough, bro. Your Wire breakdowns are on point, Homie. South Philly here!
This Show is the greatest.. so much to life by and I pride a lot of the mannerisms and rules displayed because it’s all real, good content bruh!

Wee Bey is the goat for real. I never noticed the link between Dee and him. That’s crazy I just noticed that.
Wee bey was one of my favorite characters in the wire. He's very handsome too❤❤❤❤❤
Great take on Wee Bay ✊🏾
Bro this break down is on point
Marlo wouldn't have had a chance if Avon had Wee Bay, Stringer, Bird, Stinkum, Savino, Little Man, etc. They had a stacked crew. Chris and Snoop couldn't or wouldn't go against those hitters. The fucking A-Team with WeeBay as there Commander
Man if The police had waited like 10 minutes to move in and Avon answered the call from slim Marlo would’ve been done right there
I disagree. Snoop and Chris were serial killers. They were emotionless killers. Yes they all are when it comes down to it. But not everybody can pull out teeth and dismembered bodies. People they knew that whole life is just on an order alone with no questions asked. Now those two are definitely capable of wiping out a whole crew of went by still gang had after the second season
Ummmm yes they would
@@birdswithfeatherflocktoget4332 u talk about them pulling out teeth and what not, Wee Bey and Bird or Stinkum tortured Brandon Omar's BF worse than anything Chris and Snoop did on the show as far as torture. So Avon's crew I think had more ruthless killers and would've won I think but fuck who knows lolol. Chris and Snoop were still just as Ruthless and bad ass so I can see your point
Only reason marlo made his play was because Avon didn't have his muscle anymore,he even said it himself
Bro, your pod is the best I've heard on the wire, throughout the internet
The older i get the more seasons 1-3 become my favorite because they explain the roots at which so many other things transpire later on.

So here I am, a suburban middle class white chick just about to turn 60 (yow!) - and I LOVE Wee Bey. When Avon says that in prison about needing a scorecard to "keep up with your lethal ass," I realize I've forgotten that Bey's a stone killer! Up until that point, I was actually feeling sorry for him when Tilghman knocked over his little plastic fish!!
That's facts
Being from Bmore we would see plenty of suburbanites coming into Bmore for their drugs..then have the attitude as if they were better than us because of where they lived..I would shake my head knowing they were hypocrites and when those took over their lives we would see them move here to be closer to the drugs and lives go right in the gutter...
