I skate. I’m a dad. Not teaching your children skatepark etiquette is child abuse lol. Dropping your scooter kid off at the park and leaving is neglect. Merry Christmas and congrats on the kid.
i was at the same park john is in this video and there were so many little kids there rollerblading, scootering, biking, and some were even skating. it genuinely kinda aggravated me but you can't freak out on them bc they're little kids so you just gotta chill
I completely agree with that. Leaving your kids alone and not watching them play, in today’s time. Sounds like they are asking for trouble. Parents don’t understand, their kids can get seriously hurt at a skatepark.
John, you have more patience than most, you’ll be a great dad! Yes, most parents don’t know the flow of a skatepark. They would never just let their kids wander through the swim lanes and water aerobics classes, because the parents know how swimming pools function. It’s probably going to take another generation for ‘skate parents’ to become more common.
@@GoAskYourDad_ This has got to be the most level headed take on this I've ever seen. As much as I agree, my parents knew how dangerous skateparks could be when I was 5-6 like 17-18 years ago, and they know nothing about this kind of world. You definitely need to pay attention
I taught my son proper skatepark etiquette early, early. He's now 7 and can easily see the flow of the park and when to go and try his line. Freaking love that boy!
John, you seem so much more enthusiastic and i think that it's the secret to get better at anything. Having the patience and the mental force to go through hard days were we skate bad and everything while being enthusiastic is the secret to transform these hard days into not so much hard days. At the end these days make the difference in your progress. Keep killing it 👍
Hey I just want to say I always love watching your videos, I’m currently 13 but I’ve found times where I just feel like I’m not getting better but now I’m actually starting to progress, I recently 50-50 a quite large ledge out of a bank and your relatability makes skate slumps feel way better. Thanks👍🏽
John you're too nice my man lol. Parents can and should teach their kids skatepark etiquette immediately. You just have to be an active participant with them and these parents want to be lazy and drop their kids off somewhere that they shouldn't be alone. It's rude and bad parenting. I'm 36 with 2 kids. I taught them skatepark etiquette immediately. It's for their safety and others, plus it's rude not to. You can do it in a kind, caring, yet firm way which isn't yelling at your kids. It's just giving them guidance.
The worst thing is when the mum is always standing in the middle of the park and the kids are sliding down the hip whilst you’re navigating the park like a mine field 🤬
Yep, I've seen so many parents stand in the middle of paths just blocking the whole thing or putting their stuff on ledges and even the floor instead of the benches!
Hey I just wanted to comment to throw out some appreciation dude! Stopped skating about 7 or 8 years ago, and unsure If I'll ever get back into it. (I still love to longboard and snowboard though) But even if I don't, watching your videos is so relatable, and hits home with how genuine, aware and caring you are skateboarding. Showing all sides fr Been watching for past 4-5 months and gotten hooked back on some skate content lmao. Dig your skate style too.
It was really nice to hear what you had to say about KeChaud. I didn’t hear about his death until recently and I was so sad to hear what happened to him. I took a few lessons from him and it was really obvious he loved skateboarding and teaching others to skate. He was and awesome guy.
My daughter has been coming to the skatepark with me since she was 4 and she knows how to stay out of the way and use the park . You just have to teach them.
I’m a dad of two daughters. My four year old skates with me at skatepark (brea skatepark) and I’m absolutely teaching her to keep look out and to be courteous. My biggest problem is the PTA moms that just throw their kids into the park and act like everyone else is supposed to get out of their kids way.
I'll never give up at skateboarding. I have days where it's fustrating when I can't land a no comply 180 frontside. I know that I'll eventually do it. I'm real positive and I'm the one telling others they can land tricks. Skating has helped me a lot. I have survived trauma and skating has taught me that I have control how I respond to it. In a way it's taught me to cope with life's uncertainties. It's also increased my pain tolerance. Thank God I haven't gotten a serious injury only because me personally I wear protective gear and a helmet. It's a personal choice. If I ever have kids, they won't be getting in the way of skaters. I'll teach them not to.
So this park is actually my home park. I love it, but it was built in an area that is primarily middle class families that didn't grow up in sports like this. They see skateparks as just any other playground, so they seem to think its a babysitter for them and fail to understand or teach their children the proper respect and etiquette that's required in that environment. My 6yo son and I frequent this park REGULARLY when the weather is decent(Texas ifykyk) and there are certain times of day that the park is unskateable because of all the kids. This is great little spot and I love seeing bigger names frequent the parks in my area!
Thanks for naming all the tricks. That probably was a pain to edit! Also the fact that you accomplished all of those tricks in that environment is a testament to your skills! Inspiring me to make a new trick list for 2024.✨
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year John. Thank you for the many years of entertainment you've given me and countless others. I feel fortunate to get to witness a part of your journey and the ups and downs that comes with life. You've given me inspiration, motivation, and comfort on more occasions than I could possibly guess. I feel a sense of pride to see that you've gained a goal and sense of purpose in light of a tragic accident. I'm so sorry about Kechaud. I distinctly remember that video of him that you posted at the Vans park and it's so sad that he's gone so soon. He was an incredible skateboarder and the whole community lost a great person. Happy New Year and I can't wait to see what you achieve in 2024! :)

Ok I have twin 6 year olds so this is near and dear to me. I've brought them with me to the skate park since they were 3. I taught them etiquette. But what is more important is teaching the parents there (that probably dont skate and never have) ettiquette. My kids screw up sometimes and thats ok. Which is why I usually try to go when no one is around. And many parents are receptive when I tell them what they should teach their kids, look both ways, dont snake people, look where you are going, dont literally lay on the floor at the bottom of ramps.....But I gotta say man, these other parents just dont give a Fuuuuuuu......and it shows. Their kids are some of the worst little shiiiiii......'s I've ever seen. They straight up dont listen. Which is why when they do get hurt, and they do, I just make it a point to stare at them with my hands up and a smile like "bro I told you so".
You sorta remind me of a Willy Santos type skater. He could do basically everything but he never had a niche. You said you want to be better, at the basics, it doesn’t get much better man. Why don’t you focus on having one trick solid that becomes your signature that you take to the next level? For example, Penny’s was the Kickflip, and various iterations of the Kickflip, but he could float a Kickflip over, down, off, anything and it looked effortless. The Boss’s is the frontside flip. Caples has a Kickflip and sick melons on hips. Jaeb is just all style, style is hos signature but he can take it big. Muska had the Muska flip, 5050 and tails on big rails. Templeton was a Smith and Feeble rail guy. Mike Carroll had Kickflips, frontside flips, bs 180s and Japan grabs. Maybe you just need to laser in on few tricks but take them next level if that’s where you’re going at 33. At 42 and 25 years off from skating, I’m satisfied with a big ollie and a nice Kickflip. It’s the simple things done masterfully that makes skating so beautiful.
PS, you sound like me in the surf lineup! 😂 I started telling every dumbass kid, and adult, where and where they cannot sit nor surf from. Got tired of too many gnarly accidents happening because some people are inept or never try to learn the rules/etiquette of surfing that exist to keep people safe.

10:39 “scooter kid” who obviously wasn’t a kid was leaving the park, which so happens to pass thru your line.
Sorry about your friend, John. RIP.
The progress is crazy tho holy smokes you’re actually getting insanely good. And you already were before 😂❤
5:26 you knew the second you said it
Ok I have twin 6 year olds so this is near and dear to me.
Yeah the kids getting in the way can get frustrating at times
What park is that?
Can’t wait till your kids at a park with swings and slides see how you are lol. I’m also saying in basic comedy
Soon as you mentioned “Texas” I thought of the one and only Keshaud such unfortunate thing. Rip to the 🐎❤️

Your Daughter is gonna Rule the skateparks.
Bro is at my local skatepark and I wasn’t even there💀💀😭😭

John and Sara Merry Christmas
My mom would leave me at the park when i was 12 but i knew the etiquite
PS, you sound like me in the surf lineup! 😂 I started telling every dumbass kid, and adult, where and where they cannot sit nor surf from. Got tired of too many gnarly accidents happening because some people are inept or never try to learn the rules/etiquette of surfing that exist to keep people safe.
