I think if you are going to uni because your teachers or your parents told you to then don't go. Otherwise you will waste your money on a degree for a job you never even wanted. Secondary schools do a terrible job of giving students opportunities to try out a bunch of different jobs before they decide what they want to do with their life. About half of students end up dropping out of uni, with low-income students being the least likely (89% drop out rate). It's actually insane. A complete and utter waste of time and money. Consider yourself lucky if it worked out for you.
I dropped out of college because I was having mental health issues and I didn't want to go into debt. In the US, college is expensive yet in other countries, college is free. What i liked about it is that I learned new things that I never learned in high school. What I didn't like is how expensive it was and the advisors were not encouraging enough. The major I was pursuing would lead me to a low paying job, I wanted to switch my major but I don't wanna spend more time there. As of now, I feel better yet I really don't regret. I didn't watch those gurus because they're nothing but bigots and misogynists, what i did was following alternative plans by going taking online classes and planning on enrolling in a bootcamp for programming since it's my new goal. Is college needed, well for some things. A degree is needed if you wanna be a teacher, a doctor, a lawyer, etc, yet there are some careers you don't need college. Overall, I agree and understand where you are coming from.
Education is always an investment in your future viability in whatever field you find yourself in. Take it from a person who had to attend university in his forties because of dead ends reached in the labor force due to not having a degree of some type. Promotion and lateral movement within my former employment became all but impossible to achieve because I wasn't considered "future proof" from the credentialism that took over my industry. I hope that perspective helps explain why your degree is a worthwhile expenditure. Many of these gurus ignore survivor bias in their blanket statements about education. They can largely be ignored on this topic as a result.
And most of the successful drop outs come from money or have connections, the average person especially those from lower or middle/working classes will not make it unless they know the right people. I’m sorry you had to return to school, but you did it and now you have more to stand on.

I started university at 23 after completing a Diploma of Horticulture. In high school, I didn’t have the grades for university, partly due to attending a low-performing school. Although I graduated, I chose to repeat my final year to improve my marks but still fell short. Instead, I spent three and a half years studying horticulture at a vocational level, where I excelled and matured significantly as a student. I left feeling confident and optimistic. At 23, I was finally accepted into university but found it extremely overwhelming and dropped out after a disastrous first semester. This experience was traumatic, and for years, I felt inadequate for not having a degree, convinced I couldn’t complete even one semester as a full-time student. Now, at 31, I’m pursuing a different degree and expect to finish in about a year. Although it’s still a significant challenge that tests the limits of my mental and physical health, I’m making steady progress and no longer fear university. I also have a clear vision of my desired career after feeling lost throughout my 20s.
Going to college isn’t necessary, if you have enough dedication, you can learn all the stuff to college can teach you. The only problem is the Internet isn’t exactly a world class educational system and there’s probably gonna be quite a few things that are just straight up wrong on there. Plus the way colleges and schools are set up, they don’t just give you the information, they give you the information and use the learning process to get that information to stay in your brain and get you to learn how to use that information.
as a highschool student I agree with this from my perspective I see kids talk about how school doesn't make you learn how to make money and when I heard this it kinda really gave me an output on what school really is. For me school is a place where we learn to perfect our skills such as learning, listening, understanding, communicating, speaking, etc. and I think that most of the things we learn in school we will not use in real life but its the way that we used our brains to solve certain problems or the way we used our brains in school is what we need for after school

I'm planning to start college next semester after spending 6 years doing various trades and getting to know myself. I have no way of knowing if future me will deem the cost worth it. That alone guarantees it'll give me experiences and teach me various life lessons that I currently don't know. After all the purpose of life isn't to avoid mistakes and fear. Depends on what college you went to and what you major in. I’m electrical engineering and computer science and my first job out of college is paying $240k. Found the job through college alumni connections and if I didn’t learn what I learned in college I never would’ve passed the interview. In my case college hs been extremely useful
@@jasonpeng5798 You should only go for STEM degrees that get you a high salary job. Most people are not smart enough for STEM degrees and opt to major in Humanities subjects that do not help them pay the bills.
@@danielcarvalho1453 Even some that fall under the umbrella of STEM wont get you much. I know people with biology and chemistry degrees that can't find any decent work in their field. notes: what do we gain from enrolling and attending university? better and more true beliefs. new location. insitutions similar to university were around in 900s but they werent recognizable as what we think a university is. it was all liberal arts. it was trade school for the intellectual jobs. writing, law, research. german william humbodlt 1700s decided to be less pragmatic and said education was good for everyone, not only certain kinds of work. then something changed and people start going to university to do a particular job again. however, modern people choose their job for money and comfortable living which is monkey brain and potentially selfish
The University of al-Qarawiyyin 🌍📚 Africa is home to the world's oldest university! The University of al-Qarawiyyin in Fez, Morocco, founded in 859 AD, is recognized by UNESCO as the. oldest existing degree-granting university the oldest universities were in Africa
Universities and black cabs are analogues. 'The Knowledge' became redundant with the advent of GPS enabled maps, and universities became redundant with the advent of the internet.
College is a life choice in careers or whatever people say and whatnot it just all depends really and I think that's what truly magnificent about this wretched world we live in like in some games where there's a lot of choices or decisions you can make to become the very best ever unless you just have natural born talent... Hard work and money.
It needs to drop dramatically in cost and we need to stop subsidizing (or at least reduce the funding) for schools with marginal impact on society, that provide little in the way of career opportunities. Gender studies and obscure degrees like "The classics" are fine but they need to have an emphasis on ensuring the people getting the degree actually graduate into the job market with a better chance of landing a high paying job, rather than just take some job they could have had 4 years and no student loans ago. The amount of people waiting tables with 100-200k in Student loans and masters or bachelor's (sometimes a PhD.) Is outrage. It should be mandatory for the universities to have relationships with employers and to have full transparency with students as to the upfront job market or the degee, the number of students with that degree working in that field, the average salary of people starting in that field, the average experience being requested by employers and what the expectations are for people going into that field. If you get a gender studies professor to get to in front of a class, tell them the average salary is 35k, that 3-6% (I'm just making hypothetical numbers up )of people who graduate with that degree work in the field and there are very high writing, research and teaching expectations, and the students still want to major in that, they can at least do so fully informed.
How would you feel if I told you that higher education is free in Saudi Arabia, not only that but they give us i sample salary about 266$= 1000 S.R which is more then enough for your college needs and for a little fun in the weekend
California community college is $44 per unit. That's cheap compared to 4 year universities. California community colleges offer a lot of trade skills and degrees that transfer to 4 year universities.
THIS IS AMERICA! If you want to talk about the UK or Europe, do not present American arguments against college to "debunk." You don't understand the conversation in the US. We don't get things for "free" (paid for in taxes) like European welfare states do for their citizens.
I went to university as mature student, and in my case it did changed my life, gave me confidence, although I could do those all things without degree and student debt 😅 .. but I don't think that I would, as I wouldn't have support and the correct information available Only thing I would do differently, I possibly would choose more practical degree to study 😂
I don’t get it. You don’t have to go to some amazing university that’s out of state. I got my masters degree and the total cost was 12k over two-three years. College is important because it shows that you have the ability to finish something. This is why businesses look for that diploma. It’s not really about being better than someone without that diploma. It just means that the person with it has a higher likelihood of being more responsible.
College is a scam…in most cases But not all. If you can justify going into ridiculous debt for “curated” opportunities, then go for it. It is not without a large sacrifice. A better option, in my opinion, would be to learn how to network attain the most valuable skills that are needed for the type of work you want to be doing. Then double down on those and become highly proficient at those skills University will never “teach” you this. The return on taking ownership of your own education is several-fold.
Nah that's dumb. Go to college. Just take it seriously and don't pick degrees that are worthless. Going to college seriously raises your ceiling in like as long as you lick something that isn't worthless. Otherwise you're probably better off with a trade school or something.
@@sunburn74 Don’t make something of yourself by going to college, educating yourself, and getting a high paying job. I'm so tired of foreigners crying "oh it would be easier if it was free". No. It would not be. Nothing is free and you are refusing to understand why it costs so much in the first place. One, to make it "free" would be going againts the american spirit of helping yourself instead of being forced to help others or you'll go to jail. Two, you could afford college back in the 60s with a summer job, but long story short government saw it as a problem and tried to fix it, private sector reacted rationally to seeing the government just throwing money at it to fix it and giving you a lot of needless things included in your bill for college. Btw the problem is not picking a useful degree... And colleges being basically ran by marxists.
The title is a little bit too click bait-ish. They aren't lying to you. In today's world, becoming an apprentice in some vocational training is a far better choice for many reasons.
IMO - i think clickbait can be strategically used for good. such as in this case - hopefully will help bring people back into a more nuanced-POV (which is desperately needed, especially on youtube).

Any thing you do in life that contributes to the betterment of their community is nothing to ever be ashamed of (this social justice stupidity is not for the betterment of anyone other than corporations; that's a waste of energy).

Great work! Thanks ❤
Private schooled rich kid raves about uni because he had a good time with his trust fund backed time of adventure and fun.
Actually makes me want to kill myself seeing propaganda like this, if you're an average person without a rich two parent supporting household, it is a scam to be avoided at all costs.
(I'm in university)
My girlfriend is one, she ended up working a sales job that requires no education making double what she did working in a lab. She was also looking at remote field work for the government that actually manages to pay less than minimum wage when ypu divide the salary by hours expected to work.
notes: what do we gain from enrolling and attending university? better and more true beliefs. new location. insitutions similar to university were around in 900s but they werent recognizable as what we think a university is. it was all liberal arts. it was trade school for the intellectual jobs. writing, law, research. german william humbodlt 1700s decided to be less pragmatic and said education was good for everyone, not only certain kinds of work. then something changed and people start going to university to do a particular job again. however, modern people choose their job for money and comfortable living which is monkey brain and potentially selfish
The University of al-Qarawiyyin
🌍📚 Africa is home to the world's oldest university! The University of al-Qarawiyyin in Fez, Morocco, founded in 859 AD, is recognized by UNESCO as the. oldest existing degree-granting university the oldest universities were in Africa
Primarily learn what you are about, university is just a means to an end.
If you get a gender studies professor to get to in front of a class, tell them the average salary is 35k, that 3-6% (I'm just making hypothetical numbers up )of people who graduate with that degree work in the field and there are very high writing, research and teaching expectations, and the students still want to major in that, they can at least do so fully informed.
ironic cause i saw this guy wearin a College Dropout shirt
just kiddin tho, good album
How would you feel if I told you that higher education is free in Saudi Arabia, not only that but they give us i sample salary about 266$= 1000 S.R which is more then enough for your college needs and for a little fun in the weekend
Well stated my friend. I appreciate your un emotional opinions.
California community college is $44 per unit. That's cheap compared to 4 year universities. California community colleges offer a lot of trade skills and degrees that transfer to 4 year universities.
Where's us and Canadian libraries
great vid

THIS IS AMERICA! If you want to talk about the UK or Europe, do not present American arguments against college to "debunk." You don't understand the conversation in the US. We don't get things for "free" (paid for in taxes) like European welfare states do for their citizens.
Thank you
I went to university as mature student, and in my case it did changed my life, gave me confidence, although I could do those all things without degree and student debt 😅 .. but I don't think that I would, as I wouldn't have support and the correct information available
Only thing I would do differently, I possibly would choose more practical degree to study 😂
good vid very true
I don’t get it. You don’t have to go to some amazing university that’s out of state. I got my masters degree and the total cost was 12k over two-three years.
College is important because it shows that you have the ability to finish something. This is why businesses look for that diploma. It’s not really about being better than someone without that diploma. It just means that the person with it has a higher likelihood of being more responsible.
College is a scam…in most cases
But not all.
If you can justify going into ridiculous debt for “curated” opportunities, then go for it.
It is not without a large sacrifice.
A better option, in my opinion, would be to learn how to network attain the most valuable skills that are needed for the type of work you want to be doing.
Then double down on those and become highly proficient at those skills
University will never “teach” you this.
The return on taking ownership of your own education is several-fold.
If you don’t got a degree, it’s gonna be hard for you to make some real money in the US
Don’t go to college. There is no shame being the person who cleans the offices of people who do.
there's also nothing wrong with being the person who serves coffee to the people who don't go either
@@peters5090 sure if you want a minimum wage job for life, coffee server with no education is for you.
Think of all the money you will save in taxes when you are working for minimum wage making hamburgers at a fast food place for life. Listen to all the really intelligent people you will work with who say college is a waste.
@@DrMoto182 sounds like coping to me, degree apprenticeships also exist, and there are so many other ways to become wealthy and successful. Uni is great for some people but not so great for others. What a sad little fool
Everyone you showed was from the USA. The USA is Not the UK. In the US it is NOT a safety net. You're paying $50,000-$100,000 for Useless paper. Maybe you should stay in your lane. And Your title...is a Lie.
Its only a scam if you study something stupid
Is he gay? (Just curious, not judging)
Yea
The title is a little bit too click bait-ish. They aren't lying to you. In today's world, becoming an apprentice in some vocational training is a far better choice for many reasons.
IMO - i think clickbait can be strategically used for good. such as in this case - hopefully will help bring people back into a more nuanced-POV (which is desperately needed, especially on youtube).
Cope, you wasted your money
