75 years ago today...the raid was led by Mitsuo Fuchida, the commander responsible for the bombing of Pearl Harbour. The Aust Govt told the public very little as they wanted to keep morale up (coming as it did not long after Singapore's capitulation). It wasn't until the 1960s when Australians really learned the true scale of the attack. Lest We Forget all those who were killed.
It was because of the movie Australia that I gained interest in the Battle of Darwin. Glad someone was brave enough to film this during the real Japonese attack. I saw this video three times. from Puerto Rico
here or Milne Bay? Mass night time attack by Japanese accross an airport.Attack had been anticapated by Aussie n planted a soldier in thick scrub to imform the gunnery line up on other side. Had every gun they could find. Japanese kept rushing into line of fire. Airstrip vitual to both sides. Yes Japanese were pushed into a mass grave. Dad landed next day n saw that too! Either them or us! It was their turn. cheers
What I really like about these Japanese bombing of Darwin documentaries is the deliberate omission of the footage showing the Darwin police setting up and using roadblocks to stop the Australian men from running away and forcibly turning them back to fight. During the bombing of Darwin the Australians pretty much ran away and got out of Darwin as fast as they could in sheer terror and panic. But that is still hidden from the Australian people as it completely goes against the diehard, tough digger image BS that is shown today.
tough words from a pissweak kiwi. You have an airshow every year that has more defence capability than your airforce. Let's not start chatting about how Aunty Jacinta wanted to sell NZ's foreign policy to China. Just remember, in Australia's consititution you're regarded as another state if we wanted to invade legally.

I read one autobiography of probably a soldier saying he saw corpses being dumped into mass grave using a bulldozer.
