Yes, it was a chain, the motors were from a garage door. The controls were the log splitter type. It was a great machine I have a track Chinese one now and it works great but it doesn't have the same reach or strength.
Only mod I've done was to swap the left/right and the boom extension paddle hyd lines, so you could pull to swing left, push to swing right, and push to extend boom, pull to retract. This is only the 2nd I've seen equipped with drive wheels, pretty slick, if I do say so, lol. I'm sure loading that thing was osha approved! :p
That is an HF backhoe I wish I had the video building that thing. The motor where used from a garage door opener big commercial. ones. The machine served us well for many years the wheels were a great improvement.
