    Except for the two places where its actually wide enough to make a turn this doesn't really look like skiing to me. Where do you draw the line between skiing and downclimbing with skis on so you can say you skied it. Nevertheless great achievement and Kilian is an exceptional athlete

    • @dethwisper
      @dethwisper 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yeah, I don't know how to feel about this video. I get that it's an amazing achievement, but I don't consider that to be skiing. I'm not belittling the guys accomplishment. It's pretty crazy to do it, let alone on skis, but I just can't call this skiing. Props to this nutjob for having the balls to do it though. Respect.

    • @fwdbias9099

      @@dethwisper yeah the skis literally do nothing for this, they don't add security, they don't save energy or add speed. They're just a liability, just downclimbing with crampons on would take less effort and time. Cant even really say you skied it so much as say that on the way down you wore skis for no particular reason. I've seen a number a couloirs done in similar fashion and can't say I see the appeal.

    Whaaa je trouve toujours fascinantes et mystérieuses ces vidéos de ski de pente raide mais là c'est surréaliste comme difficulté et exposition !
    En tout cas je suis sidéré de voir que Kilian repousse les "limites" d'une nouvelle activité de montagne, après le trail, l'ultra trail, le skyrunning-alpirunning, le ski alpinisme en courte ou longue distance et l'himalayisme en passant par l'alpinisme... le ski de pente raide ...
    Manquerait plus qu'à ce qui se mette "à fond" en escalade...
    Plus sérieusement je me dis qu'en combinant avec du vélo ou de la natation ou sur plusieurs jours il a les moyens de réaliser des merveilles !
    C'est marrant tous ces commentaires doutant du "ski", pour moi ce qu'on fait avec des skis c'est forcément du ski. Il suffit de voir la variété incroyable parmi les "disciplines". Mais à ce niveau extrême d'escalade sur glace/mixte c'est clairement une question qui se pose, il faudrait arriver à expliquer les sensations et le "sens" du ski de pente raide puisque ce n'est pas la glisse j'imagine...

    I am a big fan of yours Killian, especially your love for nature and for being outside respecting nature and I believe deep in my heart that you should search within the deepest part of you if there is another way to evolve besides making just another incredible dangerous thing. I have been through the same road you're on, not so dangerous of course but honestly it looked to me that next time you could do that descent with the hands behind your back or with clown shoes just to increase difficulty. Sorry for the opinion and thanks for the inspiration in so many things.

    "skiing"? I dont really see why i should downclimb an ice route with skis on my feet. Is the most extreme skiing going to be an overhanging wall rappelled down with skis on?

    Dude, this wall is considered extremely dangerous to climb IN SUMMER, and the guy fucking skied it down

  • @danieljensen2626
    @danieljensen2626 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The parts where he is actually able to turn count as skiing I guess, but certainly not the parts where he is using the ice axes. That's just making down climbing more dangerous by using the wrong equipment. Seems like it shouldn't count as skiing the whole wall if you don't actually ski the whole wall. 🤷‍♂️
    That said his turns are extremely impressive, I'm looking right at them and my brain doesn't comprehend what happening. I suppose it helps that his bindings are pretty far back so the back of his skis don't catch on the wall.

      With Rappel or down climbing it's still a first decent with skies. He had he's skies on all the time.

      @@roimari I carried skis up to the top of the wall at my local climbing gym and then put them on before rappelling down it wouldn't be impressive, it would just be stupid. If you are actually skiing that is great, but for the rest it's just using the wrong equipment. Might as well be the first person to descend in clown shoes or swimming flippers.

      @@danieljensen2626 Childish reply. He did the way he did it. And it worked out well. He has skied a lott with Vivian and they do dryskiing.. This and other steepskiing like North face of midi are for different type of skiers. Also at those descents you use Rappel etc. And it's part of the game.. Is it smart? Im not to judge, unprotected sex isn't smart or driving a car drunk like the "great" Norwegian Northug did. Still people do it...

      @@roimari It just seems like they're pushing it to the point of pointlessness. I know a lot of ski mountaineering routes require some rappelling, but what at what point does it stop being skiing and start being just repelling with skis? If I ski around on the top of El Capitan, repel down, and then ski away from the base can I say I did the first ski descent?
      I'm definitely not knocking the bit of skiing he did, but at least from the video it seems like not all that much skiing was actually involved.

    Franchement c'est époustouflant ce que fait KJ .
    Il aborde une nouvelle discipline et dépasse encore les limites .
    Cette soif inextinguible de performances , jusqu'ici il en maîtrisait les risques par sa très grande connaissance de la montagne .
    Ne franchit il pas la une limite , dans cette course effrénée vers l'extrême ?
    Ueli Steck n'est plus de ce monde , pourtant il était le meilleur , le plus rapide de sa discipline .
    Ou est la marge de sécurité qu'à toujours eu KJ dans ses performances ?

      surtout que maintenant il a une 3e bouche a nourrir, je me demande si c'est facile de s'exposer au danger de sa passion et a la responsabilité de sa famille en même temps, il a beaucoup moins le droit de prendre de risques. Au passage, hâte de voir ce que deviendra son fils...
