      They make a 40.5 version of this now with a fixed ceramic bezel. I know this is a really old comment but I figured I'd let you know. SBGE253/SBGE255/SBGE257 are the 3 main color schemes.

    That Grand Seiko man, it's just pure watch porn! Especially when you put it up against the likes of the Marine Master and the Skx007. Both decent watches in and of themselves, but, hey, there really is no true comparison. You pay your money and you take your pick I guess. Currently I'm fantasising about Grand Seiko, devising all manner of methodology whereby I'll be owning one ( preferably the Snowflake) very soon. But that Gmt is absolutely gorgeous too! I have such admiration for what the Japanese have achieved in terms of technology and the finishing on their higher end watches it's hard to view the likes of Rolex and Omega as anything more than cleverly marketed over hyperbole. That being said, of course Rolex and Omega make very fine watches indeed, but Seiko and that spring drive technology along with the exquisite finishing on those Grand Seiko models? Enough said. Thank you very much for another enjoyable video. Take care bye for now.

    • @TheBimmerfan
      @TheBimmerfan 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you consider Rolex and Omega as ''nothing more than cleverly marketed over hyperbole'' you clearly have no clue. These two brands are absolutely the best in terms of horology. I'm a proud owner of a Seiko Marinemaster SBDX001 and I really like this watch, but this doesn't mean Omega and Rolex are empty names. As a fact - my Marinemaster gains about 10 seconds a day, when my co-axial Omega chronograph gains 2 seconds in a month! Some respect to the great names in horology please.

    • @RobS____
      @RobS____ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheBimmerfan Certainly not knocking Rolex or Omega as they're fantastic timepieces with a rich history , but they're nowhere near the best in terms of horology. They're still mass-produced, entry level, luxury timepieces. Just because they clearly outsell other luxury brands doesn't make them the best. Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, Breguet, Jaeger-LeCoultre, etc., are on another level.

    if I had to choose one I'd go for the Marinemaster. It looks like a more fair watch if you compare quality and price. the GS is very very expensive. my opinion. congrats it's always a pleasure to see someone so passionate about something. I don't share your obsession but I definitely understand your passion. Cheers.

    • @BruceWilliams

    No mention of the movement differences? Spring Drive is a huge differentiator! Accuracy alone is worth talking about, and the power reserve indicator is a huge plus, imho!

  • @RobertNES816
    @RobertNES816 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That Grand Seiko is just amazing! Every little detail popped out to me! I personally couldn't justify spending over 5k for a watch like that. I know I'll drop it or bump it into something. The most expensive watch I own is a Seiko SMY141 followed by a Seiko SRP621. Both are field watches which I love the look of, they do everything I need them to do without being to worried about bumping them into things.

  • @squidrides6339
    @squidrides6339 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I wish more watches had the crown at the 4 o'clock. It makes the watch more comfortable, especially on my bony wrists.

    • @BruceWilliams
      @BruceWilliams  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely, Seiko is the brand that offers the most 4 position crown. Very practical!

  • @squidrides6339
    @squidrides6339 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I love Seikos. I wish these two watches were thinner. The older I get and the more often I wear a cuffed shirt, the more I appreciate a thinner watch (12-14mm).

      So true, I wish they did as well

    • @Brascofarian
      @Brascofarian 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I reckon you could wear the GS no problem, but let's face it, Seiko aren't bad at providing dress watch alternative. ;) The GS in this video is my favourite, but I'd be willing to compromise on a snowflake.

    • @clo2715
      @clo2715 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's were I'm at right now. I'm trying to sell my MM300 to get something thinner. I bought the longines legend diver and it's 13.5 mm thick and it is very comfortable to wear.

  • @Brascofarian
    @Brascofarian 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    That Grand is a fantastic watch, I never grow tired of seeing the Spring Drive movement in comparison to a high beat movement, it's just the final word isn't it? That continuous sweep beats anything else hands down. The finish on the links on the bracelet make the MM300's admittedly great bracelet look gappy and fat in comparison. This video is a great contrast of a high end tool watch and a precision luxury watch. Great video, I wish you'd spent a bit more time talking about the GS though, lots of features you didn't mention.

    Those are beautiful watches. My questions are this: Are you satisfied rotating those two, or do you want a higher tier and do you think a higher tier would satisfy for long or would it simply be a resting point before desiring an even higher tier?

    • @BruceWilliams
      @BruceWilliams  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      This GS is my dads and his first luxury watch. I've been incredibly happy wearing the mm most days. It's a great piece. I think I could be a minimal watch guy. Just a couple nice pieces. Sure it's fun to dream about a polar explorer or nautilus. But in reality I think my ultimate rotation would be a tool Tudor for daily use, a Grand Seiko Quartz for dress, and a few of my tier 2 and 3s to mix it up for fun on occasion. I think if you've been in the game as long as we have and depending on personal tastes I think you could be satisfied at tier 4 without needing to keep climbing the never ending ladder

    • @JeffreyMcMahon

      +Bruce Williams I totally agree with this comment Bruce! A Tudor tool diver, that new Oris 65 2016 blue dial 42mm, Longines heritage 1973 or 54 panda for dress, few Seiko and few micro brands that I enjoy and I need nothing more!

      It's just the bracelet, though. The case hasn't been touched, apart from the dents it's acquired, which look great in my opinion - it's what a watch that looks it's it's made to be used should look like :)

    • @jimmymack1079
      @jimmymack1079 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sebastian, refinishing the polished centre links is easy to do by taping off the area and using a Dremel with soft polishing wheel and liquid metal polish. Or you could pay to have it redone professionally. A replacement bracelet runs for about 300 bucks on the bay.

      +Bruce Williams I need to check out the marine master in person. The price is kinda steep. Grand seiko makes 2 quartz divers with the awesome 9F movement and second hand they are under 3k. Looks like they use the same claps with the ratcheting as your watch.

    The MM cannot be opened through the back to be serviced and needs to be sent to japan? That's what I hear.

    • @BruceWilliams
      @BruceWilliams  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Correct. When you have it serviced- they take the movement out of the top of the watch. And yes it goes back to Japan. There is a place in the US that is comfortable working on the 8l35 but not Seiko certified. Servicing this watch looks to be a pain

    • @varanid9
      @varanid9 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends; I can so see having both. The GS bezel can't be beat, and the indices are classic, while the MM looks more purposeful and durable. The GS for special occasions and the MM for daily wear. Throw in a Samurai as a beater, and, there's your 3 watch collection, all Seikos.

    its too bad that Seiko copies Omega Speedmaster on the case design and bracelet. I like Seiko but for the Money of the Grand Seiko I would get the Speedmaster. (even though the Grand has a better movement in the Spring Drive) The Original design from Omega should not be copied.

    • @joshcrook9838

      99% of classic designs are copied. Even omega is copying something older. Making improvements but copying. It's the reality even with the most prestigious brands.

    Dude, if you own these watches, please learn how to say the name of the series, Prospex is pronounced "Pro- Specs" as in Professional Specifications" pronouncing it like "prospects" really does a disservice to the name being it has nothing in common grammar wise.
