Or at last the one of caraïbean islands between XVII and XVIII were. They are the fondation for story and drama about corsairs and pirates. In the opposite, mueslim pirates of the Mediterranean Sea were slaver themself : hunting white people to sell them to black kings, warlords and tribal chiefs. The more you know...
Everybody says they want to be a pirate. But no one wants to be a modern day Somali pirate Why is that? The modern pirate's life more closely resembles the ancient version than whatever is shown by Disney.
I glad he lived long enough to be a bad influence.
Bad influence? No one was hurt or killed, only a little girl was shown a possible path to personal freedom.
