- Nineteen years ago today, our iconic former Maine Road home played host to its last-ever Manchester derby.
Fittingly, the occasion proved to be a day to remember with City securing a famous 3-1 victory over United.
Shaun Goater claimed a memorable brace of goals - bringing up a century of City strikes as well - to supplement Nicolas Anelka’s early opener and ensure that Kevin Keegan’s side deservedly claimed the derby bragging rights.
Small wonder then that it’s a game all City fans still fondly remember to this day.

@Blue Moon, I flew into Manchester on BA for this game, I also sat in The Kippax. I had tears in my eyes at the end, knowing that it was my very last game at Maine Road. I had £10 on 3-1 CITY @25/1. That nearly paid for my air fare. (3-1 and Anelka to score first was 50's I didn't dare have that one Arrrggg) My first game at Maine Road was Alex Harley's debut v Aston Villa in August '62. I've never even been near the area since. For 40 years it was my favourite place on earth.

I've been so lucky with my derby's.
I was at the 5-1 in 89. I was at the last derby at maine Road and the first derby at the etihad.

What a day that was....both our first choice central defenders out injured and in comes Wiekens. I feared the worst. I need not have worried. Yes Goater gets the plaudits and rightfully so but my word that stadium erupted when Anelka put us one up! Now derby wins are very common. This was City's first since 1989.
