Agreed, too many videos contain a lot of fluff... Some TH-camrs really love to hear themselves talk and put drama into it, very annoying to sit through all that nonsense if you just came to learn something.

Great tutorial, really breaks down , makes it easy to understand, and gives a really good idea on how to use a remote flash and where to place it. Too often in youtube videos i see " oh okay were gonna put it just about here" and it never really helps you understand why and how far , or settings to put your flash at. This video did a great job doing what all those other youtube videos don't! Keep up the great work!!!

Wonderfully helpful, except that I don't have room for a studio, so my portrait sessions are outside. I'm going to look for lessons on using an off-camera flash outside. Rebecca is gorgeous, by the way, and so expressive with her face, unlike so many stone-faced models, who look either angry or clueless.

I know this is like a year over video but Im hoping you can see this notification comment. When I use the 888 what if i have 2 off camera flash and one continuos light in a 50*70cm softbox (75watt incunds) Where do I set that continous light? How bout the other 2 flash? Thank you very much!

Great formula , the only dilemma for me is when you asked not to exceed 1/200 Sec ,does that makes the lower setting (ie 1/150 or 1/80 ) also a balanced correlated along with 888 formula ? Thanks again ..
Lower shutter speed won't effect the flash balance, but will introduce more ambient light, which can effect the overall exposure. Example, if you were in a pitch dark room using your flashes you may not be able to tell a difference if your shutter was super slow or fast as there is no ambient light to pollute your scene. Now if you were to uncover a window in that room you have introduced a new constant light source. The longer your shutter speed, the more of that new constant light will be allowed to hit your sensor changing how things look. The hard part in flash photography is balancing ambient and flash powers so you get just the look you are after. Hope that helps! :)

Great tutorial, really breaks down , makes it easy to understand, and gives a really good idea on how to use a remote flash and where to place it.
Too often in youtube videos i see " oh okay were gonna put it just about here" and it never really helps you understand why and how far , or settings to put your flash at.
This video did a great job doing what all those other youtube videos don't! Keep up the great work!!!

Wonderfully helpful, except that I don't have room for a studio, so my portrait sessions are outside. I'm going to look for lessons on using an off-camera flash outside. Rebecca is gorgeous, by the way, and so expressive with her face, unlike so many stone-faced models, who look either angry or clueless.

When I use the 888 what if i have 2 off camera flash and one continuos light in a 50*70cm softbox (75watt incunds) Where do I set that continous light? How bout the other 2 flash? Thank you very much!

Great formula , the only dilemma for me is when you asked not to exceed 1/200 Sec ,does that makes the lower setting (ie 1/150 or 1/80 ) also a balanced correlated along with 888 formula ?

Lower shutter speed won't effect the flash balance, but will introduce more ambient light, which can effect the overall exposure. Example, if you were in a pitch dark room using your flashes you may not be able to tell a difference if your shutter was super slow or fast as there is no ambient light to pollute your scene. Now if you were to uncover a window in that room you have introduced a new constant light source. The longer your shutter speed, the more of that new constant light will be allowed to hit your sensor changing how things look. The hard part in flash photography is balancing ambient and flash powers so you get just the look you are after. Hope that helps! :)
