    This colour correcting tutorial has been so insightful. I already feel like a better colour corrector now. Subtracting colour as opposed to adding and also adding addition layers to fine tune the colour you want is a concept that never occurred to me before. Thanks

    Hi Scott, your video was helpful because you went step by step through the process. I am an old lady trying to use FCPX to create videos, and your video was informative without the frustration of trying to determine where to find the function you were describing. Thank you for an excellent video.

    Good video. Subscribed. Would love to see more examples of color correcting various clips with bad or inconsistent lighting conditions (or sometimes barely any lighting), etc. We capture a variety of skin tones within the same frame, under bad lighting and frequently at night or in a nightclub or backstage concert. More problem solving tips to help salvage and improve that kind of footage would be immensely helpful. Thanks!

    • @scottmckenna
      @scottmckenna  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Exposure first, then white balance. Every time. In camera and in post. The exposure being off affects the white balance so much.

    Awesome brother. Great stuff. What I like to do is use the draw mask function. Mask out an area that’s supposed to be white and then bring up the rgb parade waveform and it only brings up the waveform for that white area. Then I adjust accordingly. Once I’m done I turn off the mask and I get good results. :)

    This is the first color (colour - damn yankies :D) video for FCPX that actually makes sense. And I've watched several. Perhaps it just clicked when watching this vid, but how you explained the colour board was fantastic. Thank you. The only thing I don't get it adding colour boards. Isn't that just adjustments on top of the adjustments? I've done that before, then had to colour match with other clips, and it can't do it because - I assume - the other clip doesn't have the same amount of colour boards. Confusing. But this really helped. Thanks again.

    • @scottmckenna
      @scottmckenna  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and I’m glad it was helpful. The biggest difference with color boards is that you’re really just adjusting one specific color at a time and adjusting the area of the brightness that you want to control. All the way at the bottom is 0 and dark, and all the way up is 100 brightness so if you were on the green color board and you pulled up around 50%, you’d be adjusting the midtones (green only). Does that make sense?

    I've been watching you since about October. Thanks for this video. You did a very good job of explaining the scopes. Its actually hard to find good explanations Like that, that dont confuse a total nooby like myself. I started learning FCPX in october as well. Just uploaded my first vid like 2 weeks ago with no color correction because I am just starting to dive into that part of video making. So much to learn. Can you keep explain more/ teach more? You have a lot of knowledge and experience and a lot people who want to learn from you. I would really love it if you could do a video or 2 on understanding how to adjust exposure, shutter speed, fstop and what ever else one should learn to get out of auto focus. I'm afraid to break out of the auto settings.
