Do you know where the negative terminal is for the 2018 G30 BMW Model? I've been trying to find this out but with no luck. An image of the negative would help a lot. Thanks,
Hello @BMW Fanatic I have not used my 335i for a few months and it is completely dead should I use the connectors for the front charger or should I use the connectors for the battery itself to charge my car ? What do you think the best way to do it with my current car condition ?
I plug in my battery to the tender if it sits more than 2 days. Might be overkill, but never hurts to keep the battery in top shape! CTEK is the way to go.
Same here. I've got one of those cables wired in permanently so I don't have to use the crocodile clips. Thst's connected to an extension cable that slips under the garage door and that's where the charger is. It means I can close the hood with the car outside.
A few things: - If you have a BMW, there's a good chance you have an AGM battery. In this case, you will want to use the "winter" setting. - If you use the "recondition" option, you should disconnect the battery from your car, and plug your charger directly to battery or you might do some damage to your car's electronics.
Not at all, did it countless times, no issues. Why? Because RECOND does NOT work on AGM batteries, does not flood it. Source: CTEK. RECOND is there for other batteries types. Now, Cold does work, spooling the voltage and temp when it is cold.
It's NOT a trickle charger. It's a SMART charger. It's an intelligent charger using proprietary algorithims. When the battery is fully charged, it knows when to 'float' the battery with a harmless pulse charge. Big difference from a 'dumb' old trickle charger that never stops charging.
Question … I have a 330i that looks like the auxiliary battery is giving me issues, but it is a Li-Ion battery.. this charger would not work for those batteries correct ? Thanks
I've been using car mode since my garage doesn't get to a freezing point. I rarely keep my garage door open for more then a few minutes. I've had zero issues for 4 plus years using this on my b58 powered vehicle.
I have 2016 M5 I used BMW Ctek. I left car in garage for 3 months, Everyday Charged with timer installed. Charged at night and shut off in the morning. Car start just fine after 6 months without drive
works great! I have a 2006 750Li that I don't drive often, the battery went dead twice and I decided to get this and the small jump charger in the event I was someplace remote, it died again. When I hooked it up, the battery was listed at 2, pretty weak, it took 24 hours to fully charge and I could tell the difference right away. Week later, battery dies again as I haven't driven it in over a week, I decided it was time to replace the battery but, good to have this in the event one of my other cars needs a charge.
I have 2016 M5 I used BMW Ctek. I left car in garage for 3 months, Everyday Charged with timer installed. Charged at night and shut off in the morning. Car start just fine after 6 months without drive.
I have a 2016 BMW X3, what charge mode should I choose to charge? My battery says: 61-21-5-A40-E33, EP Battery 105AH. Is it a AGM battery? Please let me know, thanks
I live in Wisconsin and winter is pretty brutal here. I don't drive my Bimmer in the winter and would leave the car on the driveway with car cover on for at least 4 month. The temp sometimes could be below 10 degree. Can I still use this charger to charge up the car for all this time since the car is outside?
I live in WI also, and am already experiencing battery problems with my BMW 3-series because I am not a daily/frequent driver. I bought a pocket jump-charger, which works great to turn the engine over when the battery fades (won't work if battery is completely dead though), but honestly, would rather have a smart charger on the car all the time so it's ready when I am. Instead of having to jump the car before I head out. Also, I'd feel better if the car battery was ready to go in case of emergency. I bought a Genius Smart/Trickle charger, but haven't hooked it up yet, still figuring out how to hook up the charger in the front/engine as opposed to the trunk/battery. I read the manual and it seems like you can leave it hooked up 'indefinitely' since it'll stop charging when there's 'nothing to charge' (fully charged). But if you left your car outside, even under a cover, I think you'd have moisture problems. Maybe someone could remove your battery from your car so you could put it inside the house for the many months you don't use it? I would do that if I knew how.
CTEK makes a specific "extreme conditions" version of this charger: CTEK (56-958) MUS 4.3 POLAR It's pretty much the same charger, with design changes to make it more reliable in temps down to -22°F/-30°C, but I think the only difference is hardier cables. If you have the regular MUS 4.3, it should be fine as long as it's off the outside ground and under the hood (protected from direct elements).
Thank you for the video. Is it good for a car battery if the car is connected to the charger whenever parked in my garage? CTEK claims the charger can triple the car battery life.
Is the Ctek lithium USA 12v/4.3A/lifepro unit you reviewed have a part number ART 56-926? I just bought one from Amazon, but both the comfort connect clamp and eye let cables are too short. The positive and negative cables (for both the clamp cable and the eyelet cable options, are too short to reach the positive battery terminal and the negative ground terminal screw. Did you have a different unit, or cable you used?
Can you use the snowflake and/or recond mode for bmw AGM batteries?? Will those modes damage that type of battery? If you're starting with a deeply drained battery, how long will each stage take? 8 hours? Thx
Hi I got the same charger and for some reason not charging fully going only till bar 4 and I got brand new battery should I return this charger or what’s wrong with this charging ??
my charging ports are not working i always have both in use 24/7 and now both of them are not working anymore you think this well help out the problem?
I cannot find a CTEK 4.3 user manual, but if you read the CT5 Time To Go user manual it shows charging at the battery just on the other side of the BMS current sensor if done in-vehicle. It has no reference regarding the use of underhood jump start terminals (posts). What I have learned is that you should actually understand what a charger is doing in normal operation in regards to voltage and current before using it on an expensive vehicle, especially remotely from the under hood terminals. Battery charger claims of being smart or supplying a certain amount of controlled current are greatly exagerrated. Many times switching voltage control is used rather than linear control because it relies on the battery as a kind of filter, which may be appropriete if the battery is charged stand-alone (out-of-vehicle).
I have the Bmw trickle charger and for some reason it doesn’t go past level 3 on the charger.. I’ve plugged it in over night and can’t seem to go past level 3? I’m in Canada so it’s cold -30 degrees Celsius.. any help?
To fully charge a battery it is best to bring it up to 20 degrees C if done in vehicle. Charging lead acid batteries is not usually done below -20 degrees C. At -30 degrees C the recommended lead acid charge voltage per cell is around 2.6 Volts or 15.6 Volts total. Which is high for charging in-vehicle. If the battery is charged stand-alone you can use a high current charger at an elevated terminal voltage which will heat up the battery. As it warms it can accept more charge. For example a 100Ah starting battery at low temperatures 30% SOC could readily take a charge current of 20 Amps (0.2 C rate) during the bulk phase. The CTEK cannot deliver that kind of current. At 20 degrees C the recommended max voltage is 2.45 Volts or 14.7 Volts total. Which would makes more sense for not overvolting the 12V bus if the battery is charged at the battery on the vehicle side of the BMS current sensor. Charging batteries at very low temperatures is not an easy task in-vehicle.
bmw clicks upon start and won't turn over. Had a flat battery sat through all winter. Re-charged it, and it lights up the car again. But now it clicks. What could it be? The battery read 13.90V now it's down to 12.80
When I connect to the car the mode will only go as far as the motorbike (BMW 525i touring) and shows that it is charging - can this be correct? Why won't it select car mode??? any help will be appreciated.
That CTEK charger is automatic. It will stop charging when the battery is fully charged, and it will auto-test the battery every 10 days, then top up the charge as needed. -So, you *must* leave the charger plugged in for this feature.
Higher amps means faster charge and also able to handle bigger batteries better. Although it's best to charge using lower amps on a typical battery, high amps puts more stress on it.
Just got the ctek for my dead e90 battery ...hooked it up and plugged in ...no green lights on charging sequence...I've tried each mode ...after a minute or so all the lights just go off ...I am charging from the engine compartment
The NOCO chargers will do the same thing if the battery voltage on a 12V setting is very low. Seems to be somewhere around less than 11 volts at the battery.
You should also note that not all chargers connect to the battery posts in the hood. Most factory trickle charges connect to the battery in the trunk directly.
Go AGM, lithium is not worth the 3x upcharge. I would recommend something that has the longest replacement warranty (not pro rata). I personally have Odyssey Battery, but if I were recommending an AGM to a non-car person I would recommend them get the nicest Interstate battery or nicest AGM (that matches their car) from a convenient car / car battery brick and mortar store. I don't see the value in buying online (hassle if you have an issue), or driving like an hour to get a certain brand.
LI ION BATTERIS: in winter, when cold, plug at the battery works best, get 7-9 years. CTEK knows for AGM batteries not to flood, and -16 to -40C, ONLY REAR spools the battery to start charging. Front is best for top up, indoors, summer. Outside REAR is best, in the cold. LI IONS DO NOT charge below -15C, so spooling is key (as tesla owners learned..). So plug upfront -20C outside, GOOD LUCK. IBS will be confused to say the least and the Li ion battery will declare charged even if not.
I would like to disconnect battery and then charge it at my place since I live in an apartment: 1. will I need to register battery again? 2. Any precautions to be taken?
Hi there. I have 07 bmw 328i my car lights blink and halo lights to.. were I live in it’s cold freezing temperatures. On my dashboard showing every time I turn on. The cold temperatures sign. I don’t have garage” do you know any other battery charger?
3.7sixxer No water problems, went to buy the M3 cowl and then had a few issues with the parts arriving to me. Long story, but going the M3 cowl route officially here soon
@BMW Fanatic: Do you have to register the battery when you charge? I know you do need to register if you replace with a new battery. The charging KINDA makes the battery new(ish).
Hi I have a question , I think that you charge the charger previously and you don’t have to connect the charger 🔌 to the AC , for example if you are far from your house and the battery car fail , or you need to connect this charger to the ac always to make it work , or I already charge the charger and I can use it anyplace if the battery fail without connect it in the ac.
Good morning. I began charging the battery yesterday on a BMW from an auction (Perhaps It's been sitting for a long time). Last night I connected the charger in snow flake mode. And it did not charge overnight. This morning i set it in the forth light RECOND mode to give it a slow charge because. Just after this, three lights inside the dashboard are now flickering at a slow rhythm . The start engine button light, the parking light on the gear control and the emergency icon (triangle). it's also making a little rhythmical noise inside the car. IS ALL THIS NORMAL? Thank you
A mechanic told me to charge directly on the battery as the CTEK charger although a great choice doesn't give the battery enough power. What are your thoughts?
charged directly battery and now bmw says my battery is too low LOL..... I think charging from front is the only way, because bmw is counting how much battery capacity it has, not what voltage at the momment
Well I own a E90 M sport, and done the exact steps in this video, when I first drove it after this, the whole car went crazy, light flickering on and off, wipers switching on and off, basically everything switching on by itself. I’m not sure whether it’s the battery is the problem or the alternator
You have to re-program the battery.....on alot of the later model BMW's anytime the battery is replaced or in your case sometimes when it's been dead you have to have the battery reprogrammed so the car will know how much power to use based on the condition of the battery.
I have 760 2015 and when I connect the Cteck it charges the battery but I notice something on electronic part of the car starts to misbehave, this can be gps or radio setting or HUD , someone here commented that BMW has a type of battery that can not be reconditioned unless disconnected from the car and if so will damage the car electronic. He recommended using trickle charge , snow flacke , does anyone else know anything about this?
fondoo can't flash or code with the Noco OBD2 charger, so that's out of the question. Not sure I would trust that, especially how finicky the DME's are!
I used to have 6 1000 ah batteries in my lolo, wired in series, the c-tek charger was the best charger to use in re-con mode, I tested multiple battery chargers and nothing compared to the c-tek !.....dont dick around with other chargers, get a c-tek!
I never keep this on the car, always remove the battery and charge it separately, I had someone use this once and left it charging over night, woke up to fire fighters hosing down his car.. car burnt to the ground..
BS. Not *this* charger (unless you got a rare, defective one). This specific charger is designed to stay on the vehicle while not being driven; It's fully automatic. Go ahead and read the manual. I've had one on my Ducati and two cars in storage for the past 7 years.
how does this charger differ from the MXS 5.0 which is newer? Does the newer model have all the capabilities of the 4.3? The 4.3 is more expensive than the newer MXS 5.0.
The permanent eyelt connector is for applications where the batteries are in a tight spot and it’s difficult to get alligator clips on there for instance underneath motorbike seats tractor seats some vans have the battery under the seat in the drivers area.......whatever then you can use a remote connector These are bloody good charges I actually prefer 0.8 amp it’s half the price of the 5 amp and most of the time batteries are not dead flat they just need topping up so over weekend the 0.8A is sufficient...... plus if you have an expensive car it’s just that extra layer of insurance that you won’t damage any electronics because 0.8 A is way too low to cause any problems..... And finally I have a personal view that a lower slower charge as best I hook up my car Friday night Monday morning on the 0.8 amp it’s ready to go.....

Why are u commenting misinformation?
How long does it take to charge a Beamer? I’m going on 6 hours and it’s still on 2
The newer CTEk has a separate AGM mode now
Dunno if someone else has commented this but you should use the snow mode for AGM batteries.

CTek 5.0 for me. Love the AGM mode.
what is agm mode?!
Людмил Здравков It ups the charge voltage for an absorbed glass mat battery.
Hi, I have a X5 E 53 4.6is Bj. 2002, 347Hp. Can i charge in on the theme way? Thank you Best regards from Germany
@2.37 when you say snowflake, i believe it also charges AGM batteries on that setting.......COLD/AGM: Charging in cold conditions and AGM batteries
Thank you for the video. Is it good for a car battery if the car is connected to the charger whenever parked in my garage? CTEK claims the charger can triple the car battery life.

Lifesaving video by the BOSS, just saved me
Is the Ctek lithium USA 12v/4.3A/lifepro unit you reviewed have a part number ART 56-926?
I just bought one from Amazon, but both the comfort connect clamp and eye let cables are too short. The positive and negative cables (for both the clamp cable and the eyelet cable options, are too short to reach the positive battery terminal and the negative ground terminal screw.
Did you have a different unit, or cable you used?
Will this be good to use while I tune my M235i?
Don’t you just connect it and leave it connected for days/weeks/months if storing it?
I put under 2000 miles a year on my 2018 M3. It’s probably best I get one of these to trickle charge.
Can you use the snowflake and/or recond mode for bmw AGM batteries?? Will those modes damage that type of battery?
If you're starting with a deeply drained battery, how long will each stage take? 8 hours?
Thx
Snowflake mode is AGM mode.
Hey which mode do i need to use if my battery is at 25% charge say low voltage which showed up in the battery tester.. Thanks in advance
Hi I got the same charger and for some reason not charging fully going only till bar 4 and I got brand new battery should I return this charger or what’s wrong with this charging ??
Last time i done this it took 3 days and wasnt even fully charged, using the same charger, any thoughts?
If it’s taking three days and didn’t move up at all then your battery may be toast
@@BMWFanatic Done it again recently it only took 5 hours haha, i definitely didn't have the connections on properly 😂
Does it run warm when charging an AGM battery? I got mine hooked up to a NAPA and its quite warm almost hot. I'm charging my e46 from the trunk.
Your Videos are always detailed and very useful. Even though I have a E92 I still enjoy watching. Keep up the good work!
+Patrick Trumpet II thanks man!
Is it normal for the charger to get hot. I had to put small fan to cool it down while charging. Charger is on cement floor
my charging ports are not working i always have both in use 24/7 and now both of them are not working anymore you think this well help out the problem?
Do you mean the interior auxiliary charge ports, like the USB and power outlet?
Check the 10-amp fuse for the ports.

I’ve heard using the recond mode is not advisable for certain batteries. The stop/start eco systems are no-go if I remember correctly.
the guy in the parts department told me if I should. go on a holiday I should leave it plugged in. Is that ok?
Yep, it will maintain the charge and not use a lot of power to keep it fully charged

I believe it is. The "OEM" one is just Branded BMW

Page 11 on the manual - 8 hours should have been the max on this step. If it's been on that step longer, I think you may need a new battery.
Hi charge voltage ?
You should also note that not all chargers connect to the battery posts in the hood. Most factory trickle charges connect to the battery in the trunk directly.
trickle chargers are not meant to be used on AGM batterys

Does this charger work on any bmws?
Yep!
We don’t have to register the battery after charging right ?? Sorry for the foolish question

Thank you
...3 years ago. So how did it turn out for you, did you short out your car or what?
A mechanic told me to charge directly on the battery as the CTEK charger although a great choice doesn't give the battery enough power. What are your thoughts?
charged directly battery and now bmw says my battery is too low LOL..... I think charging from front is the only way, because bmw is counting how much battery capacity it has, not what voltage at the momment
@@MariusVerbavicius but you should disconnect battery from car
@@lucasg1988 no, you MUST NOT DISCONNECT battery when charging. All settings will be lost.
Thank you for this video, I just spent $553.00 to replace my battery
??
Will this work for 2018 BMW 440 ?
How long do you charge Car battery if u have 3amp Charger?
I let my charger sit on for several months straight over the winter.
thanks for the info!
Well I own a E90 M sport, and done the exact steps in this video, when I first drove it after this, the whole car went crazy, light flickering on and off, wipers switching on and off, basically everything switching on by itself. I’m not sure whether it’s the battery is the problem or the alternator
You have to re-program the battery.....on alot of the later model BMW's anytime the battery is replaced or in your case sometimes when it's been dead you have to have the battery reprogrammed so the car will know how much power to use based on the condition of the battery.
need help.how can i charge my hybrid battery in my 2012 active hybrid battery?its not recharging while i drive or brake.tia
What fus it mean number 8.
And how do i onow when it is finish
I was under the impression that best to leave BMW's locked up so the modules can power down properly.
Yes, correct best way is to keep them locked
I have 760 2015 and when I connect the Cteck it charges the battery but I notice something on electronic part of the car starts to misbehave, this can be gps or radio setting or HUD , someone here commented that BMW has a type of battery that can not be reconditioned unless disconnected from the car and if so will damage the car electronic. He recommended using trickle charge , snow flacke , does anyone else know anything about this?
Use the Snow Mode. Leave it connected as long as you are not driving the car.
Noco with obd2 charger connector is soooo much easier. No more popping the hood
fondoo can't flash or code with the Noco OBD2 charger, so that's out of the question. Not sure I would trust that, especially how finicky the DME's are!
That’s to charge the reg battery not the lithium one.
What option is there for us who park our cars on the streets ☹️
Right! I’m like, plug? 😂
I used to have 6 1000 ah batteries in my lolo, wired in series, the c-tek charger was the best charger to use in re-con mode, I tested multiple battery chargers and nothing compared to the c-tek !.....dont dick around with other chargers, get a c-tek!
Good job
Awsome man!
Great vid. Going to resuscitate my 2014 328D with a CTEK or similar. She's been sitting 4 months and batt is most definitely is dead. poor baby.
Tenders are better for longer storage
how does this charger differ from the MXS 5.0 which is newer? Does the newer model have all the capabilities of the 4.3? The 4.3 is more expensive than the newer MXS 5.0.
They probably used cheaper components in the newer one despite the fact that it's slightly more powerful.
advance auto has these on clearance their $10.95 I just bought one
Grab America by the Flaps in store?
starlyn batista yeah store only
part# 40171
sku#11329670
$10.95
Grab America by the Flaps cool thanks man, gonna check out the ones near me for 1.
starlyn batista no problem boss
Grab America by the Flaps picked one up just like you said 10.95, what a steal, thank you so much.
The permanent eyelt connector is for applications where the batteries are in a tight spot and it’s difficult to get alligator clips on there
for instance underneath motorbike seats tractor seats some vans have the battery under the seat in the drivers area.......whatever then you can use a remote connector
These are bloody good charges
I actually prefer 0.8 amp it’s half the price of the 5 amp and most of the time batteries are not dead flat they just need topping up so over weekend the 0.8A is sufficient...... plus if you have an expensive car it’s just that extra layer of insurance that you won’t damage any electronics because 0.8 A is way too low to cause any problems.....
And finally I have a personal view that a lower slower charge as best I hook up my car Friday night Monday morning on the 0.8 amp it’s ready to go.....
Does this bad boy charge Lithium Batteries?
Why all questions never answer?
How long does that take to change a battery to step 7?
+Toobs138 took mine 4 hours - all depends on the status of your current battery
BMW comes with charger on back what I saw..
Fish it though for what? Where is the battery located. Auto Zone checks batteries for free.
Charge ports are under the hood as seen - you can fish it through the top of my the hood so you can close the hood
Arthur Smith the battery is in the trunk of the car, I would not recommend letting anyone other than BMW service anywhere near it though
Are they portable wireless?
notification squad !!
...those air intake filters......
Cute and accurate
fit for a m235i xdrive 2016 ?
So are you pretty much saying I'll never have to buy another battery again?
2snayls I've seen that it's been able to reconditioned some pretty dead batteries, so would need to test that theory
Any battery will eventually wear out and drop a cell when that happens it's time for a new one but this charger will prolong that inevitability.
exxr wow time flies, this was two years ago lmao thanks for the info tho!
I bought instruction from Avasva and I build it very very cheap.
Too much talk , just do it .
It gets so hot could burn your car
