  • Leigh Ivin demos this unique instrument, and we walk through the numerous considerations to arrive at the final design. We look at Andy’s specific take on isolating the back of the guitar, allowing it it move unencumbered, and then on to ergonomics, efficiency, and design considerations for an instrument specifically to be a lap steel.
Leigh shares his first impressions of the instrument and a few improvisations.

Heya, thanks for your kind words. Be warned...Lap steel is incredibly addictive. If you want to have a trial, you can get a simple string raiser that fit over the nut of your guitar and lifts the strings off the fretboard, buy a Stevens bar, then tune to an open chord. Leigh likes open E, I'm a fan of open D. D A D F# A D. It's great journey!
