It's incredibly in place. Martin is really good technically, but I always prefer Josh. Not only tone-wise, but entirely. Martin almost sounds out of place, but I still wish I had his knowledge of the neck.

@TwangaBunga i like the two different takes on the solo. Josh went all on blues, Martin went more Jazzy. Which both fit the progression. It's just John himself went bluesy and Martin's lick might be a bit long for the phrasing of the song.

@@heirtothepwn maybe...but as a vocalist/multi-instrumentalist myself, song selection does matter...and anyone who performs in from of crowds knows this. I dont think this was a good choice for him vocally....and Ive seen this from him more than a time or two: He has access to other vocalists who are a better fit for a song, yet he chooses to do it himself. I'm pretty descent at a bunch of instruments, but there are MANY that I would never put front-and-center for an audience because I have access to far better musicians in my circles. This young man has WAY more access than I do...so I think it makes more sense to choose the best tool for the job at hand. Just on opinion, of course....and what do I know. I've probably listened to this track a dozen times, and each time I'm disappointed that I already hit the thumbs up and can't do it again and again.

Listen to these every few days - it's so great to watch masters in their art perform. Sound engineer was spot on too.

In that room FULL of heavy hitters, it's nice to see Benni owning this one.

The pickup changing on Josh's solo is really wild. I never noticed it until now but he shifts the lever based on the location of the neck he's playing on, and he does it during the natural phrasing points in his playing, like when a horn or wood wind player would breath.

Great job guys, I like how you put your own vibes/style in vocals and instruments. A very “original” cover, let John Mayer sound like Johnn Mayer and you guys do your own thing.

Martin. Benni is the man. We all know.
As a bass player turned all rounder, a talent like his is not un-noticed. As is his carefully crafted participation of your awesome whole.
If you do nothing else as a bassist but make your song better.... you have succeded.
He goes way past that. For me, IMHO, he is a pillar of the Martin Miller Experience.
Has he hit you up for a pay rise yet....?

Dear Martin and team, you've done an incredible and respectful work so far: perfect musicality and amazing sound design.
I think it's now time to move to a Dream Theater medley. I know it will be hard, but I it's going to be epic! TH-cam will never be the same again. Neither Dream Theater covers.
    Best!
    A fan.

Probably not the first time I've commented on this as I find my way back here during most TH-cam guitar watching, but... Josh Smith... Soooo much taste and control.
So much to love about what he's doing. His opening bit, in a non-music way: He opens with a few notes. There are around three or four notes that you hear the most, and four or five that he layers underneath - little quieter notes that he's just putting there to add flavour, like a bay leaf in a slow cooker. And he does that all the way until he flicks the pickup to the bridge and melts face for a few notes, effortlessly sliding two note thirds (fifths?) in parts, but then smooths down again, with more thobbing two string note slides and beat perfect eighth (?) note melodies, but he was only warming you up, and then I get lost in it all and can only listen and savour the soul food.
And then he just effortlessly ends it, and passes it back to the band as if it was nothing, because he knows he could rip it just as well in the next minute if he needed to.

You guys are true masters. It's one of those rare cases when you hear a cover of one of these giant musicians and you think "they're at the same level, if not better than the original"... many many compliments! You make my soul sing with you. You're a bless for every music lover.
