I saw Tommy jamming with an extraordinary harpist at the HK Foreign Correspondent's Club one night, mostly on her pieces, and he was MAGNIFICENT. So, was she, but by God, if he didn't hang on to the "dragon's tail" and climb up to the neck of the beast that she was, well, you weren't there, but let me assure you Tommy Emmanuel is an absolute mofo. They "topped" each other throughout the entire set. Amazing performance by both! ❤🎉❤

It's such a clear sign of a master when they're playing for what fits the song arrangement and not worrying about being in the spotlight. Tommy is such a gift to the music industry in so many ways, and I will be truly saddened when that man passes.

I have had the ultimate pleasure of working with Tommy many years in Scotland when i was an music Tech student. he's a gem of a man and a phenomenal musician i will always remember after his gig he joined a local bunch of lads playing in the pub and he improved with them as they played "Drive" by Incubus. it was and still remains to be one of the single best musical experiences of my life. He played amazingly and at the same time didn't try to outshine the band or steal the limelight away from the young guys playing. Thankyou Tommy for being you.

I used to go and see Tommy and his brother play in the 80s at the local pubs in Australia. It's been a privilege to enjoy his amazing talent for so long. Now I get to finish my life listening to another brilliant guitarist, Mike Dawes.
I didn't know Tommy, but frankly I'm speechless, he plays with such wisdom and respect. He knows exactly what to do and when. The timing of his phrases is perfect.

the two guitars compliment each other very well. good arrangement. and very musical... you can tell both have mastered their instruments to the point where they can just feel the song and not worry about hitting certain notes
If you are jamming a key or a scale it's easier than you might think. It's called chord chasing. Verses repeat and you can hear it in your head. They also likely missed several "right moments" but landed on a few that sounded sweet. Not all pieces fit into a specific key either which is why you need to know the chord and melody structure. This one is pretty easy to know where to land. Take a band like Metallica with 140bpm, changing key and time signatures and it gets more challenging- but still fun. Too much info., I know- just sharing. I play guitar (not like this) and like to hear myself talk. 😎

I recently played with some random guy at my local Guitar Center- he was new to playing and we were trying out some guitars. I had him play a few specific chords in order (the chorus to ALIVE by Pearl Jam.) I then soloed over it in Em. His face lit up like he never heard anything so magical and raw. When it was over, he was smiling ear to hear. He then asked me, "Can we do that again- only this time I want to record it!" Of course, I said YES! Music, being allowed to play and share it is an amazing gift. Cheers!

I've been lucky to have seen Tommy live on two occasions. Each time in a cozy, intimate, folky venue to around 50 people. In the intermission he walked past and out of nowhere cracked a joke to my late father, because he'd spotted how much my Dad was in awe of the show whilst he was playing. Tommy's an extraordinary talent and just a lovely person all around.
I got excited when I saw this notification because I thought it was a What Makes This Song Great, but this didn't disappoint, absolutely beautiful playing, luscious full arrangement of one of my favourite songs of all time. Bravo!

Amazing skill. I remember when I saw Tommy Emmanuel in Dartford, Britain. As the sweet sweet licks and the closed-eyed head shaking went on, the PA speakers began to edge forwards because of the rumbling of the bass. Had to get outta there before it fell and landed on my legs.
Mike did an absolutely amazing job! Tommy is definitely a legend. It’s amazing how as good as he is, he stayed in the pocket and seemingly didn’t feel the need to try and show off he amazing talent. Dude is a giant, but he played a very supportive role in this one!
How wonderful a tribute. Im always amazed at Tommy and his choices he makes surprises me, its rare to see both mental and physical acuity at that level, its just a real treat. A+
Watching and listening to these 2 guys - I spend so much time checking out guitar gear, seeking to satisfy my GAS and I realise time would be much better spent practising. 2 acoustics plugged in, a touch of reverb - and amazing tone coming from their fingers and souls!! Aural bliss

Watching and listening to these 2 guys - I spend so much time checking out guitar gear, seeking to satisfy my GAS and I realise time would be much better spent practising. 2 acoustics plugged in, a touch of reverb - and amazing tone coming from their fingers and souls!! Aural bliss
