I was recently in Atami, Japan and they had a big foot bath right on the front plaza of the train station! There were a bunch of people with their shoes off wading in the water while waiting for taxis or buying time before their trains while others rushed around them into the station!

It hurts me to say this but one reason why we could keep these great "underrated" cities, is exactly because they are underrated.
It's like some great food places become boring or at least overcrowded when they get Michelin stars.

The smell of sulfur may put people off, but they are believed to be good for high blood pressure. Bath drawn with water that is rich in carbonates is said to be good for skin conditions. The cumulative effective of soaking in various baths, one another the other can be an unforgettable experience.

Where did you get that "little known" "hidden gem" stuff from? Beppu is like the 8th most visited place in Japan. 27% of it's economy relies on tourism. 🤷‍♂️

    • @heratlas

I met with the members of tourism there and management in the hospitality industry. Their tourism is mostly Japanese and Chinese tourists! fun fact - they want more Westerner visitors who do not know about Beppu ❤️ they said less than 2% of their guests are from outside of Japan 🌎

Real hotels where Japanese people stay when they visit hot springs look very different. Just don't think that I'm jealous. Just considering life in Japan from the point of view of a movie star is not right in my humble opinion. It's like you know to come to a starving African country, settle in a hotel for 700 bucks a night and shoot a video about it, see life is beautiful in Uganda. And to ask in parallel the question why are everyone so thin and hungry, look, I have champagne in a bucket and a barbecue of steamed veal here🤣
