@@lexburen5932 where are you even sourcing this from? you're pulling shit out of your ass. the government has nothing to do with auto sales. the individual dealerships are the ones to blame.
This isnt a Z06 or a GT3. No one who pays for those types of marks will be looking at a Toyota. Yeah they might have a mark up for a small while but when you compare the price of this with dealer mark ups to other cars in its price range the interest for this will quickly dwindle. I walked away from a 30k mark up on an Emira I ordered because no one with half a brain thinks that car is worth 130k (used gt3 prices) Same goes with this. At the end of the day its a souped up Toyota corolla and no one will touch this when you can buy a used M3/911 or whatever is in its price range with mark ups. 50k is already too much to 90% of people that have any desire for this car
No you’ll see them listed for that price. We can only hope no body is actually going to buy them for that price and validate the dealerships pricing them that way. If no one buys them, the price will go down
I’ve had my Scarlet Flare GR Yaris Circuit Pack for three weeks and 750 miles now (after an eighteen month wait). And it seems that the GRC really is pretty much the GRY but a bit bigger. All the good things of my car carry over to the Corolla, and I recognise a lot of the same hardware both mechanically and internally. For me, being from Japan, I love to see Akio’s mission for Toyota of ‘No more boring cars’ coming to fruition with such aplomb. As no one doubts their ability to make competent and reliable cars (LFA!). And I’m proud to be part of that in a small way with my GR Yaris. Bravo Toyota!
Enjoy buddy. I live in an apartment and I can’t even park my CTS Vsport in the carport because my Ducati lives there. If I had the house in the hills with the big garage I’d be right there with you. One day soon enough, I promise my house will be in the foothills of a 4K foot mountain. But not quite yet. Let’s hope they still sell dino burners by then.
Dunno about it being a yaris cause it's a different beast. Corolla is meant to be balanced. Yaris is the juan to get, but I'll be happy with the corolla.
@@aluisious I live in London where it’s almost impossible to have off-street parking (very few houses have a drive/garage), so a few years ago I decided that I’d just have nice cars anyway. My GRY and 997 are both on the street (my motorcycle fits in the front yard). Not ideal, but at least I get to enjoy them sooner. 😄
the Aussies have already begun proving the legendary performance and strength of this 3 cylinder (since they got the Yaris). They've pushed them to 500awhp with nothing but valve springs, cooling mods, and a bigger turbo, before the mls head gasket finally started getting pushed thru. 500 wheel, from a 1.6 i3. the ports on the heads are massive, the bottom ends are strong, it's got a reinforced block right outta the box, it's ridiculously overbuilt. I mean, it's making more specific output (power per liter) than the best 2gz-gte's with less done to it.
@@fry.master I've had that thought. It'd be really cool to see that become a reality, though I have my doubts that it'd be financially viable for Toyota to take on building a 3.2L tt inline 6 race engine for street cars. Rally homologation was the only excuse for the 1.6 in the first place, and that was already a stretch haha
Slow down. You boost this thing to 500 hp and you are going to have to put a seriously expensive clutch and transmission in it. Making power is pretty easy. Doing that and having a streetable, reliable car requires a whole lot more money.
@@philipkircher2848 Stock clutch can take 400lb ft and the transmission much more. Performance aftermarket parts that cant take 500whp are few and far between nowadays, its 2022 who the hell would bother making or buying anything that cant
I really love the chunky tires, so refreshing for a performance car. Comfortable, durable, light. Manufacturers always use giant wheels these days to compensate for bad body styling and sloppy numb cars. Makes it actually usable on mountain roads that typically have pot holes. 20" wheels and tires get bent and blown out constantly in the north east.
100%. I had a previous gen Type R and downsized to 18s. Never looked back. I'm in NJ. Toyota's decision to go with smaller wheels here was the right call.
Such a good decision to equip 18's. My mk7 golf R came with 19's and I bent/broke 3 of them in 1st year in NY. I've put on a set of flow-formed 18's and haven't had any issues. Such a weird trend to put bigger and bigger wheels on cars; they do look good in some applications but it becomes counterproductive.
@@pan4632 Yeah, 17" would be optimal. OZ Superturismo would match the good OEM style. Not sure what brake clearance is though, might need forged 17" to clear.
I was so excited when this was announced. But given 95% of the dealers are charging markups, and now Toyota can’t even make them. I could careless. Over the last 2 years I’ve lost out on 3 new vehicles that I ordered. When they arrived the sewers tried hitting me with markups. I’ve been a life long enthusiast, but sadly it’s fading due to how sewers and automakers are treating customers. I’ll never purchase another new car in my life because of this.
@@ElectricusTus So dumb. I’m fortunate to have the funds to pay whenever for this stuff, but simply refuse to reward this behavior. I wish others would do the same.
It’s a joke. I also have the means to buy what I want, but until I get an explicitly detailed explanation as to how $40k cars turned into $80k cars these companies will never get my money. I’d buy an Elantra N if anything, it’s a $34k car being sold for……$34k.
@@axe2grind244 It’s really sad. Definitely killed loads of passion from me. I’m also into motorcycles, and have leaned heavily into that over the last two years. Some stuff was hard to get, but I paid msrp or slightly under.
Why would you ever "order" a vehicle without signing a buyer's order & agreeing to a price, first? My guess is that you never ordered anything. You likely put down a blind deposit with a dealer & never talked about price, then complained when they got a car similar to what you want allocated to them & lost out on the car when it arrived & you tried to negotiate on a price. Don't ever give a dealership a deposit without agreeing on numbers first. Very simple process.
hell shelby had the mach1 and mustang cobra during that time too offering an ideal "modern" benchmark for american muscle or at least showed ppl what the modular and independent rear suspension could offer to the mustang/platform.
I’ve got a GR Yaris here in the UK. Epic car and the engine/drivetrain is proving very reliable. It can take a beating and supercars don’t see which way it went on a British b-road with bumps and crests. We need more cars like this; it’s the best way to have fun on road. Track editions make no sense to me though.
I've read a lot of articles comparing this car to the new type r, the Subaru, and it seems like people forgot that toyota actually has a long pedigree of rally racing. I like that toyota is reminding people that they can make a wonderfully capable performance car.
The GR Corolla just reinforces my reason for not buying a GT86 /GR 86 /BRZ. Just think how good the 86 would be with this engine instead of the weak Subaru motor.
Hi guys, I've had 4 Toyota trucks and a Matrix XR, they were all Bullet-proof, I got a new Fiesta ST in 2014 and still have it, it's on a Cobb stage two tune, short shift, motor mount, and many visual improvements, it still looks Showroom, it has 105,000 miles on it now and I'm getting ready for my 7th set of tires, I run the Michelin Pilot Sport AS 4'S I love the grip but only get 20,000 miles on a set, at 75 years young I still love driving on three wheels, all my friends can't believe I'm still on the stock clutch. No major problems at all, I did get a boost leak on the oil separator, it was a $190 part. I might test drive one, but I really love my ST, there so rare, I get compliments on a daily basis on my car.Keep up the great videos. The Fiesta Flash.
I picked the standard Corolla hatch for my parents when it came out because they were in need of a reliable grocery getter. It was the only small, cheap car I test drove that felt balanced and actually handled well, like surprisingly well. But now with this GR, I'm thinking about one for myself. Every review has been positive and I can only imagine how much fun this is to blast around. Small, balanced, 300HP, AWD.. proper hot hatches are back!
Just an FYI I know you haven’t driven it in a little while but you do not have to go into the menus to turn off rev matching in the veloster N or Elantra N. It’s on the steering wheel. When you put it on your custom mode you can have it off without turning it off every time also.
I was on the list for two local dealers. Last week I got the call, My GR Corolla was in. After the test drive I was informed there was a slight market adjustment of 12K or 25% markup. I quickly passed. I am number 2 on the other dealers list. They do not mark up. The do come with all three packages, all weather floor mats and for some reason a roof rack (from what I’m seeing, they all come this way). Out the door a tad over 40k. So I’ll be waiting patiently
I worked for Honda at their Marysville assembly plant and I worked where the floor, side panels, and roof are joined together and welded. The steel roof was shockingly light, when a manufacturer says that using carbon fiber for the roof saves ounces they aren't lying.
I’ve been driving manuals for years and absolutely love auto-rev match. . my G80 M3 has it and it’s the Tits. Now I can’t be bothered with heel toe blips
I just hope Toyota sees the value in offering this engine for sale like Honda does with the Type R motor. Having that 3cyl sold in a crate and stuffed into older Toyotas would be incredible
Thanks for giving your opinion on how much you would pay for the car if it’s marked up at dealership. I never hear anyone talking about this who is experts and I really appreciate the fact you guys do talk about it
That g16 3 cylinder motor is such a capable engine , a guy in UAE tuned up this gr Yaris with the same engine to around 600hp and ran a 10.54 1/4 mile . So just imagine having 600hp in a corolla and too in a brand new one💀
According to Donut, a CTR sold in San Jose for around 70k. With these starting at around 35k, and with the limited production, i cant imagine these going out the door for anything less than 45k even for a poverty spec one.
@@autofocuscarsvids719 Hope you get a fair price, I drove by a Toyota dealer with a massive sign that read "nothing over msrp" and chuckled a little knowing that dealer probably isn't getting any of the GR Rollas.
I own a GR Yaris here in Australia. Luckily I ordered mine the day of release here at the introductory price of AUD$39950 drive away. These markups are insane. Worth the money at RRP. A great fun car reminiscent of the Celica GT4
Damn you made out like a bandit mate, yeah Toyota really went back to their rallycross roots with these cars I LOVE the Celica GT4s. I got an 88 celica gt that I plan to convert to a GT4, gonna be a lot of work.
The thing that always made "hothatchs" so dope, was they were attainable performance. You often couldn't find similar performance and fun for the money. While I'm happy cars like this and the Civic Type R exist. At this price point I just don't get it.
considering how willing we as consumers are to contact these auto manufacturers directly...only a matter of time till they PHASE out dealerships into "PURE" service centers...and are delivering cars to customers willing to order/wait 6+months at a time for a car. Look at the trend ford is heading this is already the direction theyre moving. If toyota follows we wont have to worry about BS concepts like dealer mark ups in the future. Or theyll be "franchised" under toyota and have to offer "ideal" pricing/service etc vs being independently owned/ran.
Too bad dealerships are gonna be marking these things up to a ridiculous amount because I would be hard pressed to get one. Also as a Veloster N owner it does have a dedicated rev match button on the steering wheel to turn it on or off. Unfortunately you can't use it when in the custom setting as it wants you to go through the menu at that point.
So when Toyota builds the next fun Toyota without help from Subaru or BMW, it's the best Toyota in 20 years. That's is deliciously obvious and puts a smile on my face.
This car, the Elantra N, and the new Type R, are all on my future car shopping list. Right now, they are too expensive, and dealers think they can sucker people out of another $20k on mark ups. For now I will drive my 15+ year old cars until these ones are actually obtainable.
Only a Hyundai troll would say such a thing. Important to know what a car is before bringing such nonsense. By the way, Hyundai, a company that literally killed people while blaming them for their defects, even in new cars, doesn’t deserve the mention. Please respect.
I LOVE that Toyota had the vision and the courage to make this car and price it the way they did. Went to my Toyota dealership the other day for some service on my current Toyota and one of the workers said I would most likely never see a GR Corolla in the showroom because the demand is so high. What that translates to is if I do see one, the markups would probably be through the roof. So sad. Oh well, I thought I would never get my CTR for sticker but I did and now it is worth more than I bought it so I hope to have a GR Corolla as well.
I bought a 2023 GR Carolla for sticker price last August when I had a 2015 Subaru WRX that I bought new in 2015 but I really enjoyed my WRX but I thought it could be better and since I had it paid off I could have made it better but I sold it to a dealership for $11,000 so I put $11,000 down when buying my GR Carolla and I've got about 12,000 miles on the car and I don't really feel it's worth the price tag so at the moment it's for sale but if I wasn't living paycheck to paycheck then maybe I'd have a different outlook on it.

My Polo GTi doesn't have an arm rest, and I've had it for 10 years and i have never felt a need for one? I've also never used an arm rest in any other car, so maybe it's the way I sit
I'm a fanboy and coupe guy and wanted to like the GR86 so much but I've heard bad things about that Subaru engine, meanwhile this Toyota three cylinder has proven itself stout. I've come to appreciate the Supra for bringing out the best in BMW. But I just love that this thing is pure Toyota, and built in that special factory to boot. I watch a Toyota mechanic channel called carcarenut and he says give Toyota the first six months of production to kaizen a new car and work out the bugs and it should be safe to buy after that. I hope to have the money in time for a late 23 or early 24. This is the Toyota for me. I hope to be parking it next to an RC-F.
I picked up a Blue Flame GRC this past weekend out of state, 4.5 hours away. Paid 2.5k markup (Could've been waved if I traded in, but I don't think that's worth it). I have been searching since November, and had the oppurtunity. I could not say no. 100% worth that markup to me. Amazing car, and the Blue Flame absolutely pops. I'm still going easy on it for the break-in but I cannot wait to open it up.
In the big scheme of things an armrest would be nice. I own a car that the manufacturer was really trying to cut weight, aluminum seat frame, jack etc. Yep, it did have an armrest. Great review, would love to own this car. Update, purchased a Core 2/23 for $40.5K. Aftermarket armrest $120, easy install.
@@LateNightDateNight I like the size, awd and the angry 3 cylinder. It's a good car priced in the 40s. For me it's not 50K car at any trim level. foot tilt is common in japanese drivers. also they really like left foot braking due to their tight tracks, thats my guess why it brake is closer to the clutch so you can quickly go from clutch to brake.
also growing up in that region/era of driving its a byproduct of gokart racing, or racing FF where left foot breaking is even more of a commonplace of generating a specific right foot/throttle style as well. A lot of racers that grew to be famous had to come up the ranks/classes and they were able to implement a wide variety of skills/techniques from car/class to class. Which definitely comes into play on a boosted awd vehicle and trying to go full out. Youll come to notice a lot more of these skills/instincts on these GR corolla vids bc so many drivers/pros havent even driven it before and are implementing their full "ability" to familiarize themselves with the cars full extent/capability. almost like a habit/comfort zone of operation.
Those are good cars, but far from the best Toyota of that time. Still an economy car that was an entire universe below the VW Jetta and didn't compete with anything in terms of performance. Mazda 3, Jetta, etc were all far more sporty and fun.
Great video and looks like a fantastic car. However the price of this and the rival hot hatches is becoming so high with ADM it puts them into the same bracket as used sports cars like the 997, M3, corvette etc. Which makes it kind of a hard argument especially when you know the dealer is probably going to pocket $10-15k.
It's infuriating for sure, but we just have to be patient. Just like these guys mentioned, I wouldn't pay anything more than $2-2,500k over sticker. Eventually, they will be sitting on dealer lots and at the end of the day, dealers want to move product.
@@danielgladston1785 I think you're both right. I'm looking at it to ease the load of my daily, a Boxster S. But if it gets too expensive, I could always just get a GT350 or a Cayman S. I've seen dealers advertise $4,500 over sticker in the Facebook groups, so I am hopeful that I can pay a bit over sticker, leapfrog those who won't but still not really over pay for the car. 😬
The new-car warranty and reduced running costs of a Japanese car are about the only advantage over buying a used Porsche these days. Not so sure that the GR parts will be much cheaper, though. Labor for sure.
@@autofocuscarsvids719 yeah it's just a waiting game. Right now, dealers are doing their best impressions of BaT and essentially auctioning cars off to the highest bidder. It's idiotic. I had a pending deal for $2,500 over sticker (purchase agreement signed) and just the other day my dealer called and told me someone was willing to pay $8.5k over and had the audacity to ask me if I would pay $10k over. I told them they'd have my business if/when they could honor the original deal. For me, this will be my only car so it needs to be able to reasonably handle daily duties. Although used Porsches and Mustangs are awesome, they make more sense as a second car.
@@shaft9000 I think there's a lot more than that. Depends on if you need the extra practicality. Also depends where you live. I wouldn't want an older Porsche as my only car. Thing is going to be an endless money pit. The higher running costs can't be stressed enough. It's a massive difference in both parts and labor.
I waited for a long while for a GR, but I saved a few bucks getting a super low mile golf r 7.5 🤷🏻♂️. For a little under 10g less before ADM, I just feel like it’s a much better deal for a fun car. If both were the same amount, I would have grabbed a Corolla for sure.
All I can think about when new cars come out are markups. It keeps the average car enthusiast from buying a car they might like. I would love a stick shift Supra or Mustang but the price hike keeps me away from them
Same here! It's so sad that the cars supposedly built for the average enthusiasts aren't actually affordable for most of those very same people. I'm happy these types of vehicles still exist... but if we can't afford them, what's the point?! 😐
Absolutely correct! I knew within a minute of driving a GR that I was going to buy one and that was right after driving an Elantra N and owning a Type R.
As a European I’m slightly frustrated we don’t get this. I love the idea of the Yaris, but I have a kid and this thing would be perfect. Have a feeling my partner wouldn’t be very happy if I brought a Yaris home and she seen how small it was inside.
Its been while since I watched TST, nice to see Matt. Kinda stopped watching it when he stopped being the main face. Don't know when or how long he has been back, but good to see ya here again
I can really see how this is rally inspired with how it drives. It doesn't easily oversteer on pavement to keep max grip but it will oversteer on dirt. I'm really glad this came out since the wrx and focus rs are both dead and the golf r isn't as raw of an experience.
This thing is killer. Dealers in the NY/NJ Metro area are already asking ridiculous money for these. I'm sure too many people will fork over the $10/$15/$20k that they want over sticker. Don't be one of those. Be patient and let em' sit.
The dealers going to just hit them with the "If you dont buy it now the next person to walk in will and they'll get to be the one to flex on insta about their new corolla, you wouldnt want that now would you?" and the poor fool with low mental fortitude will cave and gladly pay the ADM for the gram clout.
you guys forgot to compare to the Focus RS. One more cylinder and possibly a better awd system… also at this pric couldn’t you pick up a true dedicated sports car? Camaro, used corvette, used m3 etc
M cars are not true dedicated sports cars, i had a M2Competiton for two years and before that the M140i with the B58 engine, drove it on track and on road-trips. Those cars are sporty road cars with a big engine and a little bit stiffening, they are fast in a straight line and fun to drift but i wouldn‘t describe it as a focused sports car. I also was able drive the M8 Competition and the old M4competition on the Hockenheimring and the M8 is even worse on a Track, the old M4 is actually fun and the best of the pack. The new M4/M3 feels also very heavy but they hiding it very well. I have a GR Yaris now and it feels much more focused, the chassis has so much feedback and my M2c would not keep up on a twisty mountain road and most of that comes down to weight. Honestly i don‘t know how the corolla will feel and will never drive one (snd would not buy one for that mark up) but the Yaris is definitely a much more sporty, purpose built chassis, drive train and suspension is extremely good for a OEM (something inreally didn‘t like in the M2) and power really becomes secondary in the toyota. But that power is actually usable. it‘s a whole other experience than driving a M car, it‘s certainly much more challenging and technical and definitely not made for being fast in a straight line
The automotive journalist love to talk about how they always turn rev match off when in reality no one is better than a computer and its one less thing to think about.
Ok I don’t feel bad, I just ordered one with a $1100 market adjustment. The first dealer I went to wanted $15k, the second wanted $5k. Third time was a charm.
Only watching this video because of smoking tire. Otherwise, I have basically ignored this car from the getgo. Is it great fun? Sure. Is it faster and better than most of its rivals? Probably. But it's a unicorn that will sell a few cars, not because there is no demand, but because Toyota refuses to make enough to go around. Dealers will charge German car money for this, and people will still gobble them up. This car is better than a WRX in every way except the most important one: I can walk onto any Subaru dealership tomorrow in California where I live, and there will be 5+ shiny, new WRXs on the lot selling for MSRP or even slightly under. If I am willing to visit several dealers, I can basically have my choice of color and options without issue. I could (and DID) walk out the door with a 2022 WRX in my favorite ceramic white color, with the big screen, keyless start, 18" wheels, and STI shifter BUT no sunroof so I can fit inside it with a helmet.. All for a whopping $34,650 out the door. The Corolla GR, like the Civic Type R, will be a $35-40K vehicle that you buy for $55-65K because there simply aren't enough of them available. The younger buyers that this sort of car suits best will be priced out of the market. It'll be popular and hold its value merely out of exclusivity caused by rarity. If you ask me, that defeats the purpose of sport compact cars. These things are supposed to be the everyman's sports car. You're supposed to romp on these through college or in your early 20s, throw your dog in the back and take trips around the country... Your girlfriend's first memories of you should be smelling your cologne in the car as she enters; eventually, you grow out of it when you get married and have kids... And then you're supposed to reminisce over the history as you sell it to a highschool student while asking him to take care of your baby. These cars are supposed to be almost negligibly priced, but filling internet forums with "how much is insurance" threads. Kids are supposed to be looking on the internet for persuasion ammo to convince their parents that their first car should be this instead of a 1997 Toyota Tercel with a whopping 95HP. Instead, Toyota and Honda are now crapping out sport compacts that will live their lives in the garages of upper-middle class, midlife crisis geezers; mostly because they are the only ones who can afford and actually WANT it. All the actual rich people are onto AMGs and other such cars. This and the Civic are cars that had potential to be a resurgence of car enthusiasm for the younger buyers who've had car posters on their walls since childhood. Instead, they are, yet again, "cool cars" that are out of reach for just about everyone who would actually buy one.
Why do i feel like they didn't go in depth about the cars driving dynamics. like they said its good and nice but missed alot of things to talk about like the powerband ,the feel of the different bias on the road compared to the track. this car needs a real in depth video on the driving experience it has alot going on character wise.
They ppl that pay the $10k-20k markups always try to justify the price. “iT’s tHe wOrLd wE liVe iN riGhT noW”. No Civic or Corolla is worth $60-$70k. At the end of the day it’s not my money 😂. I can wait til I can get either cars for MSRP
Talk of dealer markup (on a new car) is alien to us who live in other countries. It's illegal to sell a new product over the list price in the EU, but second-hand products can sell for any price, so some dealers (looking at you Porsche) sell to friends and buy back immediately to get around it. I live in the UK and bought my GR Yaris Circuit Pack for list price, Toyota even offered 0% finance because they thought they wouldn't sell them! In the first year they were trading 20% above list, but now there's no money to made with a GR Yaris. This could be the same for the GR Corolla as supply catches up with demand.
I know I won't be able to get one because of dealers, but theoretically if I could, I would've wished that the car would've been bigger just so the backseats would be usable for adults. It's weird how Toyota made the hatchback Corolla smaller than the sedan.
Been waiting over an year for this video. It's funny that it's probably easier to buy a Rolex at sticker from an AD than this car though, but kinda sad. I wish Toyota would build a lot more than they plan on to meet demand. Dream $40k car.
Come over to Europe or more specifically, the UK and get the old fella Mr Harris to hook you up with a GR Yaris. If you get a Lichfield one then ooohhhh boy would you love the position of the seat over the regular one and the extra power....
I wish car companies made anything for regular enthusiasts anymore, instead of collector pieces that just change hands of the same couple thousand rich guys and youtubers. What made hot hatches so great was low cost to entry. Now the cheapest one in the market is what, 32.5k for a Veloster N? If you can even buy one at MSRP
if enthusiasts would buy them, they will make it. Toyota took some gambles.. the bmsupra, the 86/brz and the gr yaris(on which success, made Toyota decide to manufacture a jumped up a corolla); other manufacturers just make SUVs and crossovers while the actual generation of "enthusiasts" are more interested in how many kwh cost them to do a mile.. with the occasionally 100-200m burst of acceleration which electric cars do so well. So, we the enthusiasts that ARE interested, we should buy these cars and show our support the brands that still make them... if we want a future where this type of cars will still exist. If we don't, then we should continue buying whatever generic EV crossover with 200 to 300 electric hp and be happy that our 2.5 tons "drives like a sports car"(not!), accelerate brisk to 80-85 mph.. because, we don't go over that speed anyway, right?... I honestly resent the current state of society, where people are more interested in what their phones can make and what dumb noises their Teslas can generate through their speakers than actual driving... and actual driving in an actual driver's car.
@@eugenux I disagree that we should "support" brands. The onus shouldn't be on the individual to find a way to shell out 40k+ for a fun car to "support" a mega corporation. People will buy what makes sense, and companies know they can charge a premium now for things that used to be simple. It wasn't that long ago you could buy a new Civic Si/Cobalt SS/MazdaSpeed3 for under 25k and those were useable everyday cars.
@@bizzless2308 this dumb system is your fault. Anywhere in the world, the manufacturers can sell their products directly.. anywhere in the world bar the US and A. As for the prices.. who keeps buying these at these prices.. we the normal headed ppl or crazy ppl who desperately need a new purchase to justify their lifes. Remember how, in 2008, you could buy a mercedes SL for 60k...and now the cheapest is in excess of 150k...if no one would buy them..they would not charge as much for them; but ppl keep buying them regardless of the price and so, demand is greater than the offer.. and thus, the seller can keep increase their profits. This is how capitalism works. You want smaller prices.. stop buying everything all the time. Let the manufacturers observe that their products are too expensive by not buying them... but, you know what.. no one from the US of A and from here, from Europe, do not seem like they can refrain themselves. Unfortunately the general consumer will never own one without paying 2x the price due to dealership mark-ups.
So true and best comment! $56k CAD at 8.6% interest = unaffordable.
you can thank your government for it. They force the dealers to have these markups, so american cars can sell more. American people should protest
@@lexburen5932 where are you even sourcing this from? you're pulling shit out of your ass. the government has nothing to do with auto sales. the individual dealerships are the ones to blame.
@@lexburen5932 Really? Really? LOL, go try to buy a Z06 or a Shelby GT 500. If you actually believe this, I'm sorry.
With dealer markups you’ll see these go for $60k+, I really hate the car market right now
There are plenty of cool and affordable used cars though
No you’ll see them listed for that price. We can only hope no body is actually going to buy them for that price and validate the dealerships pricing them that way. If no one buys them, the price will go down

Cool car at MSRP but laughable at 60K plus.

Bravo Toyota!

the Aussies have already begun proving the legendary performance and strength of this 3 cylinder (since they got the Yaris).
Fun fact, multiply this engine by 2 to make it a twin turbo inline 6, and you have the mythical 3jz…

This so much. I laugh at Honda being so proud of reducing wheel size from 20” to 19” in the Type R. Even 19” in a compact car is too much!
100%. I had a previous gen Type R and downsized to 18s. Never looked back. I'm in NJ. Toyota's decision to go with smaller wheels here was the right call.
I would probably downsize even further to 17s on a car like this, especially for winter

Looks we are traveling back in time to 2003 when Mitsubishi brought the lancer evo 8 to the states. This time Toyota is having a run at it.
And I suspect they used their stake in Subaru to get them to withhold the new STI so there would be less competition in the space.
hell shelby had the mach1 and mustang cobra during that time too offering an ideal "modern" benchmark for american muscle or at least showed ppl what the modular and independent rear suspension could offer to the mustang/platform.

I’ve got a GR Yaris here in the UK. Epic car and the engine/drivetrain is proving very reliable. Guys… stop paying ADM, and stop suggesting that there is any reasonable amount to pay in ADM… that is the only way to stop ADM, period.
GR Corolla, civic si and type R only in manual. Everything else in this category of car can be with a manual as well. These are good times.
Too bad all those cars have ridiculous markups.
Just an FYI I know you haven’t driven it in a little while but you do not have to go into the menus to turn off rev matching in the veloster N or Elantra N. It’s on the steering wheel. When you put it on your custom mode you can have it off without turning it off every time also.
I was bout to say this my self lol as a VN owner the rev match also defaults to off!
Came here to say this.
Lol first thing I thought. Like dude there's a button lol.
Did it work out?
Dealerships are trying to kill all the praise Toyota deserves.
I worked for Honda at their Marysville assembly plant and I worked where the floor, side panels, and roof are joined together and welded. The steel roof was shockingly light, when a manufacturer says that using carbon fiber for the roof saves ounces they aren't lying.
Do you mean to say that the steel roof was heavy, if not then why opt for light carbon?

As a WRX owner, I also find myself in the “want but can’t justify with the ADM” category.

foot tilt is common in japanese drivers. also they really like left foot braking due to their tight tracks, thats my guess why it brake is closer to the clutch so you can quickly go from clutch to brake.
also growing up in that region/era of driving its a byproduct of gokart racing, or racing FF where left foot breaking is even more of a commonplace of generating a specific right foot/throttle style as well.
20 years? My 2006 XRS is pretty damn good. Ferocious little car.
Those are good cars, but far from the best Toyota of that time. Still an economy car that was an entire universe below the VW Jetta and didn't compete with anything in terms of performance. Mazda 3, Jetta, etc were all far more sporty and fun.
Considering this is better than the XRS... Yes still applies. They didn't say only good Toyota in 20 years
Great video and looks like a fantastic car.
@@autofocuscarsvids719 yeah it's just a waiting game. Right now, dealers are doing their best impressions of BaT and essentially auctioning cars off to the highest bidder. It's idiotic.
I absolutely love the gr corrola!! It’s mean looking. I’m definitely getting one.
"An arm rest would be nice"
*immediately tries to rest his elbow on the non existent armrest
prob no room for both armrest and handbrake
@@tinhinnh if a miata can fit both, there's really no excuse
@@StudlySoldier serious sports car dont have armrest
The automotive journalist love to talk about how they always turn rev match off when in reality no one is better than a computer and its one less thing to think about.
I love the $6800 dealer markup . That makes you start looking at used M2 Bmw's . Remember when buying a new car was fun?
I can confirm that the PS4/PS5 are absolutely fantastic as a all rounder performance tires :)
Ok I don’t feel bad, I just ordered one with a $1100 market adjustment. The first dealer I went to wanted $15k, the second wanted $5k. Third time was a charm.
The engine has been in the GR Yaris for a while, so the reliability can be judged by it.
Crazy to think in 2015 a STi was 35k ish and here we are 2023 with the year of N's, Type R etc.
I want and I’ll wait on the sidelines earning interest on my cash until they lose the markups and beg me to take it off their hands at below msrp
I can wait til I can get either cars for MSRP
we all know how great it is. now toyota just needs to build it instead of artificially restricting supply bullshit. doubt they will, so pass from me.
Great point at the end, Zach. It is a Toyota sports car totally developed by them only.
Good luck to any average person wanting to get one of these before the value is pumped up by people who won’t actually buy to keep and enjoy.
I like the civic type R but I prefer the AWD where I live at. that's the deciding factor
Full marks for passing the cyclist slowly and with space (written as a driving enthusiast and cyclist)
I know I won't be able to get one because of dealers, but theoretically if I could, I would've wished that the car would've been bigger just so the backseats would be usable for adults. It's weird how Toyota made the hatchback Corolla smaller than the sedan.
The extra inches on the Civic (R) make a considerable difference in backseat legroom, and cargo capacity. But these are cute for sure.
@@JamieToddBand Indeed they do, but sadly no AWD for those of us who get snow
Been waiting over an year for this video. It's funny that it's probably easier to buy a Rolex at sticker from an AD than this car though, but kinda sad. I wish Toyota would build a lot more than they plan on to meet demand. Dream $40k car.
Thanks for the video fellas! I am really excited for this car, too bad the "added dealer mark-up" is going to ruin it:(
Come over to Europe or more specifically, the UK and get the old fella Mr Harris to hook you up with a GR Yaris. If you get a Lichfield one then ooohhhh boy would you love the position of the seat over the regular one and the extra power....
Seeing Matt in the Corolla, I understand why Toyota aren’t sending the GR Yaris stateside now 😂
same seats tho
@@tinhinnh Yeah but the distance between them/to the doors is smaller in the Yaris
It the extraordinary good life that we are living, made us believe we need and we can have everything. Our current society has become a joke and the collective is becoming dumber by the minute.
I saw someone delivering for Dominoes near me in this car. Maybe he jsut delivered at dinner to make the payments.
When I heard the word "duckets" my mind immediately went to "Deep Space 69"
As one of the eight gazillion people who is "first in line on my local list" for a GR circuit edition... only one question remains: can a 70 lb dog comfortably lay down and/or sit up in the back hatch? Thank you!
STi maybe a ringland not a head gasket at 100k
