    I want to move to a linux kernel and have watched a few videos/read some material. Most of it is full of jargon. It is refreshing to watch a tips video that is clear and easy to understand for a brand new user. Well done sir.

    Just installed Pop!_OS, and even though I've only used it for two hours so far I'm already liking it better than windows.
    ~1 year later update: been going great, kinda
    It got pretty unstable, and apt stopped working after a little under a year.
    I switched to OpenSUSE a couple weeks ago, and ngl I think it sucks in comparison. I should have just installed Pop!_Os again, or at least another debian dirstro.

    I did the same UI tweaks on Pop OS. I have to think this flies in the face of the what the designers had in mind. Specifically, they support tiled windows and many of the windows commands are available as hot keys using "Super Key" plus some combination of keys. I personally found vanilla PopOS UI a little too cumbersome so I switch to the dock and other stuff you did too.

    I mapped my mouse to
    Middle click -> Minimize
    Double click -> Maximize
    Right Click -> Menu
    I kinda like the simplicity of the title bar without the minimize and maximize button
    I also downloaded Snap Store to get more updated apps

    I understand the main focus is to stay productive and keep your hands on the keyboard. However Linux is about to get more and more popular and many ppl without much knowledge about computer or whatever are switching over. They are used to windows and don't want to or even can't adapt too much. Giving the option to minimize and maximize windows with a mouse click should be natural, to reach all the userbase, not just the hardcore Linux-vets.
    I mean it doesn't have to be activated by default. But it should be there to activate.

    Re: maximize and minimize buttons - They're using the default Gnome setup for that as vanilla gnome disabled/hid those buttons on the titlebars. Shouldn't be a knock against the distro :-) You can also use the Pop Shop for upgrades rather than the terminal - this is super newbie friendly without throwing them into the terminal right off the bat as not all first time Linux users are tech savvy.

    I built a new computer 6 months ago, and installed Pop_OS, and at first I liked it, but then I tried to use my computer for something besides browsing the web... and I've had nothing but problems.
    I can't get my video card driver to install, or even find a compatible driver for a gaming headset, or my controller.
    Playing games on steam is choppy as hell, probably because the video driver won't install.(RTX 3060)
    Simple things like creating a text file, requires clicking in wired fields, and it's not intuitive at all... I ended up making a skeleton text file on my desktop, and I copy that to my documents folder... it's clunky as hell, but it's the only way I can create a new document... I can't create a new text document in the actual documents folder, it makes no sense why that's even difficult to do in Linux.
    I installed two M.2, 1 TB SSD drives, however only one of the drives is accessible, and I can't save anything on my second drive, even if I take possession of the drive.
    The only programs I can run, are the programs that I install thru the "POP_SHOP" app store... And half of the programs in POP_SHOP don't install, It just crashes with no warning, and it doesn't say why the install failed, it just crashes, and brings me back to the desktop.
    Pop_OS feels like some 5th grade science fair project... I guess it's okay if your just going to surf the web, but If your actually going to do something productive like make a spread sheet, or edit video, or Blender, or stuff that should be easy, it's just an absolute nightmare with Linux.
    I wanted so bad to learn and use Linux, so I could finally dump Windows... But unless your a programmer, and you can code, Linux will just frustrate the hell out of you.
    I still don't get why you can't click on an executable to install a program in Linux, why do I need to go into the Terminal, spend 6 hours searching Linux forums, for code to Copy/Paste into Terminal, and in the end, the program still won't install.
    I ended up dual booting a Windows 10 OS, simply because Linux is just way to clunky to use in my opinion.
    I use Linux just for web surfing, and Email now.
    If someone could code a Linux Distro that actually works more like windows, you would see a ton of people move to Linux, because nobody want's to be spied on by Microsoft.
    Or maybe the Linux community want's it to be difficult to use, just to weed out the non-programmers?

    Uh, about the minimize buttons, are you sure it didn't *already* toggle minimized/maximized when you just double-click anywhere on the [gui element that I *think* is called the] titlebar? (I can't check atm cuz I'm in kde on ubuntu right now, but that's what *it* does.) And like, sure, you need to double-click rather than single, but your mouse target is a bit taller and *WAY* wider, so it's arguably strictly better UI design that way?
    (
    Uh, better from the usage side, anyway
    -- obviously not better from the communicating-to-you-that-it-*CAN*-be-used-that-way side
    (
    obvious solution to *that* would be to have it display something when you moused over it I guess...
    in which case you could make that display a generalized "did you know?"-tooltip that could *also* tell you the *keyboard* hotkeys for the action...
    and direct you to a centralized list of all the bindings to check/modify them....
    ... and you might think having mouseover tooltips like that everywhere would get annoying,
    but if you had a generalized system for it built-in to the desktop-environment,
    then each tooltip could just have a "ok, don't show me this again"-button built into it
    (
    and also have the centralized list include a field in each entry for whether the associated tooltip has/hasn't been hidden away by the user,
    so the user can easily find it again if they go "oh damn, I knew it told me what the binding for that was, but I forgot it"
    ... and also have that list underlyingly read/write to a simple text dotfile,
    so that experienced users setting up a new system can just copy it over to get both their hidden/unhidden preferences and their custom bindings back at the same time
    (and have the list *tell* the user bout all that...)
    )
    ... considering that all that stuff is obvious to *me*, and *I'm* generally uselessly ignorant and incompetent, it makes me wonder:
    why the heck is it not even *more* obvious to the people who *are* actually competent and knowledgeable enough to actually *make* desktop-environments???
    (... I dunno, maybe I'm wrong about the fact that it *should* be obvious, but I'm *so* incompetent I can't even see how...)
    )
    )

It runs VERY slow onto my machine (whereas on your video, also on a virtual machine, runs very fast).. so, and I wonder whether I've set up the virtual machine in a wrong way...Checking system monitor of PoP!, shows that it's using nearly 1.5GB of RAM (1.9GB Cache) out of the 4GB RAM I allocated...is this normal? Could I have done something wrong? Should for example disable 3D graphics acceleration into virtualbox? Thanks a lot !!!!

      @@TechHut Thank YOU for answering...the CPU on the laptop is an Intel i5 for laptops; as it was running very slow as virtual machine, I decided to experiment installing it on a USB Flash (as I am not ready to completely lose Windows), so I can boot either directly onto PoPOS from the flash, or always revert back to Windows that is still installed onto my SSD drive. It runs better from the USB 3.0 Flash, not stellar though, but still better (and makes use of the full 8 GB Ram of the laptop). The issues I've had though from running on a USB Flash are: a) bootloader was destroyed at some point so I couldn't log-in to Linux no matter what I've tried to recover, and b) when I re-installed onto the same USB, long boot time, despite asking during installation to "delete everything on the USB flash".. -I can order an espresso from my local, pay it, go back on my table and it has still not booted up, needs a few more mins. I like it a lot though as a system, though I am finding connect problems with Wi-Fi drivers -loses connection every few mins. Thank you!!

    hi , your youtube video is not 1080p. Because linux doesn't support 1080p, I think. Due to you captured a low-resolution video. right ?? I did your advice completely. but I can't play video (h.264 codec error). How Can I fix it and how can I fix the OBS studio record. Because My recorded videos are too blurry. by the way My configuration amd ryzen 7 and radeon rx580 graphic card 8 gb. the same of yours.

    I am a POP newbie myself, I used the tweaks command and it doesn't give me any way to adjust anything but the general which only has 2 options. No window adjustments. Any suggestions?

    Why is "Dash to Dock" a browser add-on and not installed as a standalone? I'm kind of wary of browser extensions these days. Is there a way to install it another way, maybe from the terminal?

      You can use the super (windows) key, click on activities, or click on "show applications" on the dash/dock to use it
