    Dang. The fires are so horrific. Here in OK we have all kinds of stuff. Tornadoes, floods, quakes, drought, ice storms, grass and forest fires but CA's wildfires are just wow. Praying for you and your neighbors. Be safe and get the heck out of Dodge if needed. Thanks for the awesome update on TH-cam's favorite K5!

      PS I have that same tool chest. Love it except the wide drawer sticks. Bought it day after Christmas last year and they didn't include a single bolt. Had to make a run to my hardware store. Home Depot credited me a Benjamin for my troubles so I came out happy. Merry Christmas Merrick family.

      Yea this was missing a bunch of stuff so I got them to drop the price $250!!! Lol. I wasn’t planning on buying it but couldn’t pass that up!

    Awesome job man! Love seeing all the problems and progress in real time unlike on TV where everything seems to work out perfectly.

    I have the same saw, I bought the round tube clamp, and you can cut the square and rectangular tube at a 45 degree angle, when you cut starting at the corner instead of the flat doesn't burn up the blade and cuts twice as fast. Works awesome

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mine came with that. I need to start using it more.

    Great video. I have a couple of questions for ya.
    -Why did you outboard the back of the hoops?
    -Is the "up and over" design of the crossbar to clear the tall LS truck intake?
    -Where did the front axle end up in terms of distance from a known point? You were talking about wheel base change in the last video.

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great questions. I outboarded the hoops to keep clearance between the master cylinder and the shocks. And yea I needed to go up and over to clear the truck intake. I think I am also gonna wrap the front of the cage too.

    Great work! Too bad you did not do a road test before and after. Really want to see that video when you drive for the first time with the coil overs in. Again great work!

    Looks great Merrick! Thing should ride like a dream when it’s all said and done. Was that the Thomas Fire in your back yard or one of the other ones, Creek or Lilac? Had some of my people down helping with the Thomas before Christmas. Keep up the work, chipping away to save up to make some progress on my k5.

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea the Thomas blasted us pretty good.

    Alright, I've been watching quite a while now here on the Tube & over on CK5. Actually I feel like were old friends we have spent so much time together. I always watch on my phone & never get a chance to comment. I am stoked for you to get this 4 link setup! Stoked & a little bit jealous. Looks great & I cant wait to hear how it performs. Hope to get out on the trail with you someday, 8low should be making a few appearances this year. Plans for EJS Fullsize invasion? One last thing. I"m sure you watched Fred & Stephen with the Alabama ARMY truck. Did you see the scene where he dove the front end & had a rear in the air? I dont want to see a second "I rolled my K5" video. Better add a sway bar to your list. Late man, thanks for all of the time & effort.

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol that’s awesome man. Yea I remember that scene. Spooked me too. If you watch that video closely you will see I had a small cameo.

    very nice!! my husband really wants to do the same to his truck eventually.
    looks like its going to be a tight fit for your steering shaft behind the driver side coilover

      Yea probably gonna run another universal off the frame to add some angle.

    Not sure if you mentioned it or not but why go with bilstein instead of king shocks?
    BTW awesome job keep it up. Nice to see the continuous improvements.

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good question. It was a tossup really but I have always known Bilstein to be awesome at shocks and suspension. I can’t think of a bad product I have ever seen from them. I know fox and king are quality, just trying something different.

  • @MarkJones-sk6vk

    Very cool. Not sure if it's a good idea or legal but could you just go full hydro and mount a steering ram on the axel?

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would love to go full hydro but no it isn’t technically legal on the street, but more than that is the feedback from steering wheel and return to center etc. Full hydro at freeway speeds can be some work.

    I drill the nut and bolt holding the rod end to the arms for a 1/8" cotter pin.

    Damnit this has me worried. It looks great but with dhock hoops it's looking like it's going to be hard as hell to cram my turbos in there.

    Merrick, How have you liked the hiems on the steering, I converted my 99 2500 Ram over to hiems and was never happy with them.

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love them. I have spent a lot of time working on my steering and the biggest thing I notice now is I have such feel though the steering wheel. I feel everything. Which can be a good thing...

    What's the up travel? Looks like 4", but you'll be lowering it even more? Great build!

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Where it sits now is about 9 inches of compression, need to drop it about two or three.

    • @rwills42
      @rwills42 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Merricks Garage 9" of compression, so you're sitting at 5" of shock shaft showing?

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      other way around. It is sitting with about 9 inches of compression available. So 9 inches showing

    Hey brother love what you are doing to your K5. Do you have any advice or good hook ups I'm about to start doing a rebuild on my 86 K5 here in the sooner state

      Marry Christmas to you and your family brother.
      Love your videos best ones I have seen on anything involving a k5. Now the issue I'm having is every time I make a turn I get getting this popping noise like something is lose or broke but I can't find anything I have replaced most of the tie end rods and linkages on the front end over the summer and still getting the same noise have you ever ran across this issue your self and if so what us your suggestion on how to address the issue temporarily until I can start a full rebuild

    I don’t understand why you went away from the high steer....after reinforcing the knuckles it should be fine.

    • @MerricksGarage
      @MerricksGarage  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      high steer doesn't work with links and panhard. You get interference
