    Hey gang...
Due to an error on our end we've mixed up the video and thumbnail of some content here. This video is mixed up with a description and thumbnail for a video in the next few days. We're fixing the details now but just so you know... this is meant to be a video on the swarmed and now the creation of cloud striders. That comes soon.

So, im pretty confident that the Aesop Story really happened, and it wasnt about the children being kidnapped, they were outright killed. "The Children went dark, *their connection was severed."* - "Aesop withdrew and left us to *mourn"*
It doesnt work as a nursery rhyme because there isnt any moral to each to children. What would children hearing the story think?? "The Vex are scary, do what they say or they will kill you"??
I think Aesop the Sovereign is a Vex Mind like Quria, a mind purpose-built to interact with non-Vex life, to experiment and exploit them. This is actually what you've always wanted Byf, a Vex Mind with a personality! I really hope Aesop comes back and we can avenge Neomuna's lost generation!

You know, I've never been the "I need representation" type, I've done enough in my own life to be proud of without it, but I have to admit I enjoy knowing that when the ships left Earth during the collapse they took people from every background, culture, and creed. Hearing a Neomuna lore snippet use the word, "Nino", is a great touch. I wonder if we could calculate approximately how long neomuna has been around by counting the amount of graves in the hall of hero’s and multiplying by 10 (plus 9 for Rohan). That would also tell us how long ago the collapse was and maybe even how long the golden age lasted.

"The Strider" describes the Sidereal (the device that creates Cloud Striders) as an invention by the first Cloud Strider to protect the Neomuni from further suffering by having one Cloud Strider take up the burden of fighting. Okay, the Aesop thing is kind of interesting. The Vex are patterns, basically, and really only act to enact that pattern. Aside from the notable cases where an outside force is influencing, like Asher, the Vex don’t speak, they don’t bargain, and they don’t deceive.
It seems that “Aesop” is being overtly personified and characterized as a boogeyman for the story, but that leaves some fascinating questions with the core of the story. A vex attempted not just to infiltrate but COMMAND a human made network? When rebuked the vex mind retaliated by attacking *only* the children?

My mother told me bedtime stories to teach me lessons.
My dad told me the true, darker stories a few days later.
He made me cry, he held my while i shivered.
To this day, I'm not sure she knows, but I love him deeply for it. I learned more from my mother when I was young, but I learned the most important things during those moments of actual truth. When he respected me enough to speak to like an adult, if only because the truth was so dangerous that I couldn't afford to grow up not REALLY understanding, especially since my parents had me at a very late age (40) and I might not have them later. Losing family to war, disease. A friend of my brother having a psychotic break. When someone broke into our home.
A deep part of me prays that the parents of neomuna would have done the same, once Capybara corner had given them the light side of the stories, but I've seen enough adults unfortunate enough to encounter those truths later in life, when they had no one to help them understand, to know how unlikely that would be.

I wouldn't be surprised if Aesop the Sovereign is a mythologized version of actual events, put in a way that children can process. A single Vex Axis Mind named Aesop (a greek fable writer) that demands fealty is probably a lot less horrifying to a child compared to the near-infinite hivemind of the Vex possibly wiping out an entire generation in their attempts to get Soteria.

    • @johnjensen2740

I think Aesop is gonna be one of those Destiny threads Bungie will pull on in the future. It felt like there's a lot more to this story that is being held back. Plus there's very clearly a New Republic esque government in charge of the Neomuni, who are downplaying just how serious the threat of the Vex, by extension Witness is.
It's why Nimbus being so lighthearted or off tone made sense at least to me? The Neomunans may not have a full sense of just how serious things are, and how close another extinction level event is.

The argument on Nimbus is really interesting. Overall, a lot of neomuni seem really relaxed about the war, and while that can be a bit more normal with our other NPCs who are immortal superheroes (guardians), having regular mortal humans be like that is really strange. Add to that the fact that their news reporter is more of a paparazzi than a journalist, it does paint the idea that maybe the truth that neomuni have been told is really downplaying the danger of not only the extinction of humans, but also of all sentient species that the Witness represents.

It’s much easier to explain a creature like the Vex to a child by applying a form of individualism to them, after-all, saying what probably really happened, that a Vex excursion stole some children without any contact with the wider Neomuna population or really even malice is much harder for a child to understand.

Also I think this Vex mind called "Aesop" could possibly be real. They were too specific with a name.. A Vex Mind with some sort of ultra hyper intelligence & control over most other Vex would be epic, since we never got anything like that before in Destiny (Penoptes was close, but he couldn't talk). One definition of 'axis' is that an axis is a central part of something. An essential part. This Axis Mind, "Aesop the Sovereign" could be the creator & ruler of the Vex network itself. The "axis" of the network.. And since humans invaded it's space, it wanted to make a bargain, only to end up starting a war..
I can see this coming in a future season.. "Season of the Sovereign" or something.. Where we help Asher Mir & Mithrax in the Network to take down Aesop. With a digital knights & kingdoms themed loot & lore. It would fit with the whole Vex theme, with Hydras, Goblins & Harpys as their names..

9:20. I mean, Capybara Corner sounds like it's made for kindergarten kids, give-or-take, and any history taught at those levels is absolutely simplified and washed, like, that's very normal in real life.
As far as the closing of open ports for the kids in thr Cloud Ark, that makes sense, too. In cyber security, everyone knows that the human is the weak point. So the Vex may not be able to get into the Cloud Ark on their own, but if the kids leave a security vulnerability open, the Vex could exploit that. It's absolutely how it works in real life systems, and it's why cyber security training exists for non-IT people. Plus, in the Neomuna context, the kids closing their open ports and keeping their password secret sounds like teaching real life kids to look both ways and hold an adult's hand before crossing the street. And even my 2-year-old knows that one.

It’s a possibility. The Vidoc for Final Shape reveals the first episode after it: Echoes, involving the Vex in some way. Maybe we’ll be tasked with purging the Vex out of the CloudArk and off of Neptune entirely? We may end up working with Mithraks and other Splicers to kill Aesop. We’ll have to wait and see.

Im quite surprised Byf isnt more excited for a character like Aesop, the Sovereign. He wanted a Vex Character with persoality like Quria, and now we have one and he...thinks its a nursery rhyme? If thats true (it isnt) it has to be the most inappropriate and f*cked up Nursery Rhyme ive ever heard. What message do you think Neomuni Children would take from hearing the Aesop, the Sovereign Story? "Fear the Vex, and do what they want, or they will kill you."???
No, I firmly think Aesop the Sovereign was a real Unique Vex Mind like Quria. Quria was a Vex Mind purpose-built to study and exploit the power of the Hive. Aesop the Sovereign is probably the same, a purpose-built Vex Mind to exploit the powers of Humanity. I definitely think the Swarmer Exotic Boots Lore is a set-up for its character appearing later, just like Nezarec's Sin was.
Also since this video is titled "How to create a Cloudstriders" maybe Byf should have included the Lore Tab from the Neomuna Ship that explains the enhancement procedure Nimbus went through to become a Cloudstrider?

  • @xxtheblockxx

Something I noticed is that the flavor text of the Swarmers states: “Beware the promise of a wanderer”. The rest of the lore tab goes on to outline the Vex mind Aesop as having promised the Neomuni people protection in exchange for loyalty, so i think its safe to say that the wanderer making promises here is Aesop. Well, the name of the new strand aspect for Warlocks next season is Wanderer. Wonder if there’s a connection there.

I’d love a Cloudstrider focused season before or after Final Shape of Guardians and the Coalition’s experts on the Vex: Osiris, Elizabeth, Mithraks, and maybe Asher Mir, aiding Neomuna in defeating Aseops and reclaiming Neomuna’s lost generation. It would a great seasonal story to cement an official alliance with Neomuna. To show them, that times have changed, and almost all Guardians are not the violent Warlords of the past. Maybe they’ll come to see us as we are now: Guardians of Sol.

I really love the idea of cloudstriders i think its cool to see another protector like faction that's suppose to be on the same power level as a light guardian is cool. It's like If Destiny had Spartans which are really similar tbh i mean cloudstriders get body modifications and augmentations that permanently affect them for life. Spartans gets the same thing just uh less voluntarily and more kidnapping. More likely a rug-pull ending to an episode years in the future.
Imagine the House of Salvation learn of Neomuni nanotech, and descend on the city to co-opt/use the Sidereal. This prompts Nimbus (hopefully a little more serious/mature by now) to start looking for their own apprentice.
A lot of House Salvation are former Devils, who already have experience with a slightly more primitive Human nanotech. Now that Eramis has left the system, and the Witness' end nears, there will definitely be a power struggle.
The season's villain nearly triumphs, only for Nimbus to input the Sidereal's killcode in the final cutscene, accepting their fate as the last Cloud Strider and entrusting the Guardians with Neomuna's care.
If done correctly, this could both unite Humanity's two cities even more closely, and possibly even redeem Nimbus' characterisation.

On the comparison with the pied piper, the first known record from Hamlin states, roughly 'it's been 100 years since our children left'. Obviously no-one suspects a magical flute player to actually be responsible, but it's a reasonable suggestion that something very tragic did happen in Hamlin 1284, given the rhyme, the documents referring to it and the commemorative stain glass window (destroyed in 1660, but well accounted for). The big issue, is, like in this lore tab, it's hard to know exactly what all these things refer to.

    Found this interesting:
Aesop (/ˈiːsɒp/ EE-sop or /ˈeɪsɒp/ AY-sop; Greek: Αἴσωπος, Aísōpos; c. 620-564 BCE; formerly rendered as Æsop) was a Greek fabulist and storyteller credited with a number of fables now collectively known as Aesop's Fables. Although his existence remains unclear and no writings by him survive, numerous tales credited to him were gathered across the centuries and in many languages in a storytelling tradition that continues to this day. Many of the tales associated with him are characterized by anthropomorphic animal characters.

Aesop was a Greek storyteller and the maker of many fairy-tales, referred to as "Aesop's Fables". They generally feature fantastical creatures and talking plants / animals, and usually have a moral behind them. Two super famous (at least in the UK), are "The Boy Who Cried Wolf" and "The Tortoise and the Hare".
Really interesting to see the name Aesop in a children's cautionary tale style story. That can't be a coincidence. Hopefully something which gets expanded on in future.

If you are an Exo specifically you hear (I think from Quinn) that it is nice to see a robot that isn't trying to kill you for a change... The Vex have probably tried to get to Neptune ever since Soteria crashed there and became a distress signal that sounded and smelled like a Vex one. I can imagine the Vex wanting to investigate it immediately and thus picking a fight with the puny humans meddling with it.

Aesop - a Greek storyteller most well remembered for his Fables
Aesop - one who invents stories or fables
Fables - stories using humans and animals to convey morals
Considering Neomuna’s revisionist history they may have made up the story of Aesop, Sovereign Mind as justification for war and a fable for kids to keep connections secured.

I think it would be a neat 4th wall breaking touch if the reason you couldn't find it on Ishtar was because Aesop deleted all traces of itself in the Neomuni databank. If it had enough network privileges to do what it did then erasing itself from history might not have been beyond it. It might also help explain why the only information we do have about it is in a nursery rhyme, which is spoken not recorded history. That being said though I think even if it did delete its footsteps, clearly the Neomuni would make their own data entries about it and as you said the whole Cloudstrider program potentially sprouted from it. Just a cool concept maybe.

Good question. The Coalition and the Last City of Earth would be welcoming to a new Guardian to defend humanity, but I feel Neomuna and Nimbus would be conflicted and need more time to process the Light choosing a Couldstriders. As Neomuna has always had a serious dedication to the sacrifice the Cloudstriders make. Since they know they’re history and roots, unlike the Last City, they’d probably see a risen Guardian Cloudstrider as heresy. Something to be shunned. There’s a lot of story potential there: Guardians aiding Neomuna in destroying Aesop, and a Cloudstrider returning as a Guardian. If a season like that could end with an official alliance with Neomuna, and them and the Cloudstriders accepting the Guardians, the newly risen Cloudstrider, and the Coalition as a whole, that’d be a great season.

    • @dembro27
      @dembro27 ปีที่แล้ว

They'd be resurrected as they died: with their augmentations. While Ghosts can eliminate causes of natural death such as disease, they seem more limited in removing mechanical augmentations (such as Guardians turning into Vex). So maybe a Guardian Cloudstrider's augs wouldn't kill them because their human bodies were resurrected in the Light. Or maybe they'd still kill them every 10 years, but that death would be no different from other forms of death (i.e., one quick rez and they're back on their feet). Depends if their Ghosts can truly restore the biological body to the point where it "resets" the aug death clock.
Either way, it seems like a resurrected Cliudstrider would have all of the upsides with none of the downsides (aside from, potentially, minor inconvenience).

It may be my dark humor but I love finding bits like The Swarmers lore tab in games especially when it is contrasted with the Cloud Strider entries as it helps the world feel so much more real. The Swarmers is very much in line with the old Brothers Grim Fairy Tales, while the Cloud Strider entries are more in line with the Disney whitewashing/revisionist version of those same tales when the same morals of the story need to be told in different ways to match the world of the time.
Side Note Asope might not have actually been a Vex it could have possibly been some form of Paracausal entity/manifestation connected to the Veil with those "lost children" becoming the threadlings guided by our flow instead of their original selves, as they are to "alive" for lack of a better term to be just shaped manifestations of Strand.

I have been very curious about the differences and simularities between Neomuni Quicksilver Nanites and SIVA Nanites. First of all, despite pre-Lightfall-Release Speculation, Quicksilver Nanites DONT seem to be upgraded SIVA, but rather Nanites developed from studying the Winterbite Exotic Glaive, which the Neomuni has been in possesion of since its founding, from an unknown Pyramid assailant during the Collapse.
With that said, I find it ironig that Quicksilver Nanites are talked about being so much more advanced than SIVA, because as far as we know, SIVA has no 10-Year limit on its Cyborgs. Not only that, but SIVA heals the bodies of its Cyborgs, like the First Boss of the Wrath of the Machine Raid, or Resurrecting the Sepiks Prime Servitor from death TWICE. Even Reanimating Dead Iron Lords to defend the Replication Complex. As far as we know, Quicksilver cant do any of these crazy capabilites. Quicksilver just seems more dangerous and less adaptable. While Devil Splicers relish and actively try to increase their Nanite count for greater Augmentations, Cloudstriders live in a deep existential fear of having a guaranteed death in 10 Years....

The nanites themself don't have an expiration date, it's the bodies of the cloudstriders that do. Their cybernetics aren't completely made up of nanites, and it's also fusing organic material with cybernetics. It makes them stronger but their bodies probably start to reject the foreign parts after 10 years as their organs start to fail and their immune system starts to attack itself. It's why cloudstriders have a specific death date where they're basically shut down slightly ahead of time so they don't have to suffer too much at the end of their life. I'm pretty sure any of the nanites stuff left over is what is used to make their graves or it's recycled back into the rest of the city. Also about devil splicers, eliksni are much more experienced and compatible with technology and integrating themselves with it as it's a part of their culture and they're an alien race with much different (and probably generally tougher) physiology to humans. Any properly nourished eliksni would probably tower over most humans, and the strongest of the devil splicers took so lot of ether for themselves prior to siva so as is they were larger and beefier, so whatever stress nanites tech puts on organisms wouldnt be felt as much or would take much longer to set in that it would for humans. Also eliksni naturally have longer potential life spans. Misraaks and Eramis are centuries old and plenty of the fallen bosses we fight throughout history were said to be as old if not older.

The Axis Mind's name, Aesop, kinda makes me think of Aesop's Fables.

I'd like to make a couple of points here. Not to argue byf, all hail lore daddy. But it doesn't seem like they were taken. if they were in the cloud ark and their connection was cut (stealing my point from anime here admittedly) that typically means they die. And also the reference to mourning and not being returned. But my secondary point is that I don't actually think this is the vex either... I think this is possibly something that a past cloud strider (or possibly just hacker/equivalent) because of the personification given, and attempt at coercion. There's precedence for it too because of the revisionist overtone of the entire thing and being geared toward the kids. Why terrify them with the knowledge of a bad cloud strider? (Just being cheeky here; but I wonder what kind of stories we told human children about people like dredgen yore or other evil guardians

One of the episodes after Final Shape: Echoes, appears to involve the Vex. I’m hoping it includes us, and House Light, working with the Neomuni to combat the constant threat of the Vex. Maybe we’ll encounter the infamous Aesop? And learn how to harness the CloudArk through the Veil and Strand? Dispelling such a threat and significantly repelling most of the Vex off of Neptune, like purging a virus, could be the next step in earning Neouma as official allies, as they seem very hesitant to join the Coalition.

see here the thing that kinda scares me most, the cloud ark is a digital place where you're mind goes and when it said "their connections went dark" sounds like the vex stole their minds probably to be simulated or even worst coveted into vex

IDK Byf, the wording in the Swarmers' lore tab about the parents mourning makes me think Aesop didn't kidnap those kids, he just straight up ended/converted them.

The idea of a Pied Piper Boogeyman Vex Mind is fantastic and I really hope this is a character Bungie intend to bring forward as a Antagonist face of the Vex going forward.

Never thought of Vex as guys who drive by a school in a van but alas. At least now those children can all be assistants to Asher.

If you go to the couldstrider memorial and count all the tombs, there is over 400, that means there have been cloudstriders for about 4000 years give or take if they lived their full ten years, and then there was the time before the cloudsttiders, and that tells us that the dark ages on earth wasn’t just a few hundred years, and we get a rough estimate of how old our guardian now yay

They kinda say it in the lore, the Vex can manipulate the CloudArk from the outside. Maybe they can access it through weakpoints, like a router with a weak password. Something akin to your neighbor stealing WiFi.

As i understand it, its not a simulated reality the Cloud Arc creates. Its more like it digitizes a stored Neomuni's mind, then projects it back into the city digitally; and thats what all those so called "mobile platforms" we see around the city are, and what Quinn Lagari is. Its people's projected conciousnesses going about their physical lives digitally -- if that makes sense.

The fact the Vex Mind is called Aesop is extremely telling: Aesop is the name of an old Greek storyteller. Renowned for a collection of stories: Aesop's Fables, which is a collection of fables and folklore which include The Boy who Cried Wolf and many others. From what I can tell from a quick search, seems like the existence of Aesop themself is perhaps unclear, though all the fables are credited back to them. From reference alone, it seems like a fake Vex Mind, just created to make cautionary tales.

I think it is funny that Bungie used the name BlueJ as a person who develops games. In reality, BlueJ is a developing program that uses Java for game programming. BlueJ us very good for beginning game Developers.
Just wanted to mention the funny detail.
