The Vex time travel using an extreme amount of mathematical calculations to accurately relocate a vex body to the correct location (the minotaur teleports are them phasing in and out of time basically). They effectively use time travel as a means of finding idealistic futures based on these ridiculous maths and then manipulating the variables in the current timeline to veer it into the one they desire (basically, multiverse theory). They do not wish to manipulate the future they go to otherwise this will rip a hole in space-time, fucking up their ideas.
My guess is that the time traveling ability that Elsie has is given to her by traveller of her timeline. The last thing she remembers before she woke up in a different timeline was seeing the blinding light of traveller that tried to push back Eris with it's light when Mara Sov got murdered by Ana.
Point that was interesting to me when talking about DER don't know if it would be for anyone else, the brain will try to protect itself from perceived death through what is called a myoclonic jerk (this is what happens when you are kinda falling asleep and you start getting electric shock like twitches) as your heart rate and breathing slow down and your brain interprets this as the body dying and tries to shock itself to remain stable. I wonder if this manifested in the exo body during DER? it would be feasible to assume that the lack of stimulus would be interpreted the same way even in a simulated mechanical mind and you'd have exo's jerking and spasming uncontrollably as it's inefficacy generates a feedback loop.
There is a theory in science called Time Symmetry. A lot of Physics actions is time-reversible, which is to say that regardless of which direction Time is running along a series of interactions, the laws defining those interactions are constant and consistent. Clarity is not time reversible. Clarity appears to be, potentially, paracausal in nature.
When I was reading the journal of Clovis Bray I was also very uncomfortable whenever it was talking about anything Exo related, it’s stuff out of a horror movie lol.
I wanted to know what’s up with the exo dream, where they say they only remember when born a tower where some get to it peacefully but others don’t? Or something like that
That is also the Deep Stone Crypt. The Deep Stone Crypt isn’t just a physical place, it’s also a state of being an Exo must get to when they die. When an Exo dies, the “dream” as you call it, has them in a field, wherein they fight everyone they’ve ever met, both in their present and past reboots/lives. When they have, they can get to the tower, which is the Deep Stone Crypt.
I can't wait for you to talk about everything we learned from the lament quest. I think that particular character is going to play a HUGE role in the rest of the story of destiny 2. Thanks as always man,
The similarities between the horrors of exo creation and the game Soma are strikingly similar in how the human mind naturally breaks when given immortality in a foreign form. It's truly a terrifying concept to explore
Byf, you forgot a key part of the exo-mind connection with their resets! You brought jt up back during Warmind- that the mind connection is able to reset SAFELY about 12 times. More than that, and the mind starts to fragment and lose memories. Hence why Banshee-44 has such an awful memory. They can't be done constantly, because eventually it could actually destroy their mind, and kill them.
Holy shit. The fact that Clarity and the Sword Logic are related is true terrifying, which makes me wonder if this connection is the foundation for the nightmares Exos have about murdering everyone around them.
About the 'Fish'... I'm willing to bet that in a later season, we find out it's a darkness version of a ghost and {Redacted} who just lost there ghost will get one. through that story and events we'll learn about them.

This is one of your best videos, I am someone who likes to keep up with the lore and even I couldn't understand how clarity control works until I watched this. Really great video Byf keep it up mate
It would be really cool if we could dig around and find our own backstory in the Deepstone Crypt. Kind of how Anna dug around and found her own background, or Cayde found his journals. But I imagine that would leave non-Exo players feeling left out, and a Guardian with a history is too big a deal to just let it slide and not fork the storyline.
Just watched your deep stone crypt speculation and was blown away when you guessed Europa and other things that eventually came true, it really shows how destiny foreshadows dlcs and raids years before they happen
I love your explanations and the way you put such care into your research! My kids have even started listening in whenever I play one of your vids. That being said, please do take care of yourself! Burnout can take something you love and care about doing and make it so exhausting that you feel trapped by what used to be an escape. Love your content, but take care of you first :)
Intergrating human mannerisms probably was also why we had Cayde coughing after he was shot by Uldren. And as far as we know, Felwinter was an artificial consciousness in an Exo body and therefore wouldn't need a reset.
It would also make sense that Cayde's "cough" was so that outside observers could tell when something was wrong with an Exo. "Dude, you just got shot in the chest. But you're a robot right, so you're gonna be fine - it probably didn't hit anything important, right?" "Yeah - hack, cough - totally missed all the important - cough - stuff" "Alright buddy, hang in there. Let's get you to a mechanic."
It is nice to have complete lore on all three of our playable races. So much behind the choice of who your guardian is, something to ground them to the fascinating world we travel in.
simple, the vex are always evolving new containers for their Radiolaria/ weapons to fulfill their timeline, so, they are simply creating a new implement of war by combining 2 pre existing tech pieces, which is more efficient then making something from scratch
Pretty sure there’s not but it’s probably, as Calus stated, the very first vex combat unit that we ever meet, he said that every single vex that we’ve killed until now were farmers, builders etc. And since Clovis Bray intentionally « attacked » the Vex I guess that the Wyverns are combat units to bring massive firepower to the others on Europa. To be fair, I find them terrifyingly powerful and I cannot wait to see more advanced combat units!
@@XavierDhc Ooo, I actually like this concept best. The thought hat after all we've done up until now, the Vex haven't considered us a threat large enough to send their actual fighting units after us and we've been mostly just fighting their general workforce, but now they're actually ticked off enough to send the real fighters in. I was mostly just curious if they were a type of vex specifically crafted due to what Clovus Bray had been doing much like how they made a custom vex mind to counter the hive in oryx's throne world
Wyverns are first glimpse that we've had of actual Vex soldiers Goblins, Harpy's, Minotaurs, Hydras, Gate Lords are all essential construction workers of sorts. Wyverns are sent to Europa as a direct result of Clovis' meddling.
Bye, I love these videos where you summarize the lore. The vids where you read the lore verbatim are nice too, but this is paced way better and easier to digest
Hey Byf, great video as always! I'm interested to know if we now know more about Cayde? I thought that he was involved in the exo testing (based on the taken king journals) because of his debts so do we now know more about his involvement in that stuff with all the new lore about exos and Clovis?
The concept of reversibility exists in thermodynamics as the idea that a process may be reversed completely with no change in the energy that was present at the start of the process. In the case of sugar and water, for example, mixing them requires energy, but to unmix them requires an amount of energy that may be greater than the amount that was needed to mix them. By this logic, and other examples, it was shown that no process is realistically reversible completely. But at the same time, in the universe of Destiny, such properties and constants are always subject to change.
The implications brought up by the fact that it took Darkness Whispers to have a healthy and stable transfer of the human mind into its Exo body. Perhaps darkenss played a role in the creation of the human mind
You know, wasn't there that one thing in the Unveiling? P53. A bomb in the body. Where it suggests that aspects of current, successful life are fueled by the Darkness?
@@牙膏-q8n well yes actually. In the trials of the nine armour it says how in a world without darkness is a world without end. Nothing can die. It's never dark. It's purgatory in life.
I think thats what their hinting at. The awoken where created by light and dark, exos needed the dark to be created. Humans are the last race to have an explanation about their connection to the dark. I mean there are pyramid ships in our solar system within planets and moons that were hinted to be there before the Traveler! It'll be the biggest reveal yet.
@@牙膏-q8n Not fueled by Darkness, but created using it's methodology. Humans evolved, we exist thanks to competitive evolution. Competitive evolution is effectively the core philosophy of the Darkness. Survival of the fittest, adapting to changing stimuli (sharpening), overcoming competitors by proving to be better suited to overcoming challenges (or by just directly proving their better by killing them, same difference in the Darkness' eyes). Without the process the Darkness stands for we wouldn't exist.
I gotta admit, i didn't expect to hear about the sword logic (which i still think should be called the blade logic, because it works with all bladed weapons, like spears, axes, etc.) but it makes complete sense
What if Anna is really an exo too with a more advanced human looking body... For instance we know that her eyes are mechanical in nature from past season cut scene when see scans the horizon on Mars and we see it from her perspective. If that were true that would be a hoot...
7:00 onwards: yes, this is actual science. The principle Clovis Bray is talking about is called the "law of conservation of mass" of Lavoisier, which at it's simplest it states that nothing gets created, nothing gets destroyed, but everything changes. In other words if you do A + B = C (like water + sugar = sugary water) then there must be a way to do C = A + B (getting sugar and water separated from sugary water). The point he makes is that to do these transformations you need to lose potential energy, in other words it had to follow thermodynamics and follow the laws of entropy. Clarity, aka the Darkness, violates the laws that regulate entropy, making it in other words paracausal.
Banshee had a bad startup, and Clovis-43 wanted to be different from his original self, it makes sense that Banshee would be the one exo that sounds different Then again Banshee might actually have the voice of Clovis and the AI might have the fake voice, you never know
The one in the Moon kinda did too, although that was more within texture than mesh. And I mean, it's creepy, but it's perfectly fitting for the Darkness.
Around 7:00 mark. Yes matter is reversible in theory. Entropy is considered "chaos". Think of a seed/plant in a closed jar that grows within it's environment, the sealed jar dirt gases and all, it will grow then eventually turn to decay. Entropy can in theory cause that rotted object to return to it's original state of a plant or seed. Particles go from one state to another, "beginning" to and "end". Even though it seems unlikely, the arrangement of particles at the "end" cycle can reverse within that enclosed environment to reshape the "beginning". Decay to life, a reverse in that's unexpected. The enclosed/sealed jar is a complete universe of it's own. Matter will change, but nothing in theory will stop it from reversing back to it's original form..... "eventually". That's essentially the "4th" law of thermodynamics. Physics view point not, chemistry. That's what makes Destiny great. Balance in all things, good/bad.
So... as a little programming note. I've got tons of scripts written... I'm trying to get them out... If things are a little irregular that's entirely why.

So now that the Stranger is back I think a time travel breakdown might be good. I'm confused on how the Vex and Elsie use it
The Vex time travel using an extreme amount of mathematical calculations to accurately relocate a vex body to the correct location (the minotaur teleports are them phasing in and out of time basically).
You can check out his VoG video for a philosophical explanation.
My guess is that the time traveling ability that Elsie has is given to her by traveller of her timeline. The last thing she remembers before she woke up in a different timeline was seeing the blinding light of traveller that tried to push back Eris with it's light when Mara Sov got murdered by Ana.
Next season, season of time
At least in Elsie's case, her time travel is in "bursts" and needed an "anchor" of some sort like her pulse rifle from a different timeline.
Just listening to byf explain this makes me wish that they would explain this in game
Destiny lore is crazy good
Whomever at Bungie decided to take the lore in this direction is brilliant. I love your exploration of this.
The long slow whisper..
I’ve been waiting for this video!! Thanks so much, Byf
for me this is a great example of why the writing in destiny is so good this gave me chills constantly
I cannot wait for this series. It’s definitely going to be my favorite. The whole Clovis Bray and exos ripping themselves apart is so fascinating
EXO LORE, EXACTLY WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR
THANK YOU BYF !
Byf talking about what DER feels like actually make me really uncomfortable send help
Good
So I wasn't the only one who started to feel uneasy just thinking abt it.
@@paintothemax7126 i have a feeling it has to do with the simulations actually

Yeeeeesssss! As an exo, I have been waiting for this!!
Dude I just got back into destiny after a 2 year break and if you weren't here byf my mind would've melted
I can't wait for you to talk about everything we learned from the lament quest. I think that particular character is going to play a HUGE role in the rest of the story of destiny 2. Thanks as always man,
I do wonder if they will ever make anything with banshee, just imagine the lament wielded by him
So happy to start learning more about Exo. It's so intriguing yet creepy at the same time.
The similarities between the horrors of exo creation and the game Soma are strikingly similar in how the human mind naturally breaks when given immortality in a foreign form. It's truly a terrifying concept to explore
After playing Beyond Light I'm so happy my Guardian is an Exo. Also I'm so happy how they brought back yeh Stranger she's now my favorite character
14:46 explains why the Exo Stranger is so THICC
This guy got his priority straight
The fact i dont even play Desriny and still watch your content. Is a testiment to the quality of your work.
This feels less like a friendly destiny lore video and more like a science lecture.
This is going to be one of the best lore series this channel has ever seen.
I am so glad I chose exo for all of my characters when I had no idea of the lore behind it
I’ve been waiting for this for a while!! Although I am always excited when a notification comes up from byf
Finally! Been waiting. Destiny really isn’t the same without your lore videos.
Whoever wrote the Clovis Bray and exo stuff is really smart.
I want some of that good shit that bungie was smoking
Holy shit. The fact that Clarity and the Sword Logic are related is true terrifying, which makes me wonder if this connection is the foundation for the nightmares Exos have about murdering everyone around them.
Could you explain why the hole in the wall in the cosmodrome is repaired? Like is there any lore reason at all or was it just for convenience?
Wasn't it all done by Siva? So, maybe the Earth Warmind repaired it during the Red War.
This video was so good. I can’t wait for more info on Brovis.
About the 'Fish'...
I'm willing to bet that in a later season, we find out it's a darkness version of a ghost and {Redacted} who just lost there ghost will get one. through that story and events we'll learn about them.

Dude, i just clicked so fast when i saw the new video pop-up. Lore Daddy Byf all the way !!
I hope for all the exo guardians out there (including me) can get some background on why we signed up for the program
@@SlyBlu7 That would be cool man!
Just watched your deep stone crypt speculation and was blown away when you guessed Europa and other things that eventually came true, it really shows how destiny foreshadows dlcs and raids years before they happen
The thing that Clarity does to the radiolaria almost sounds like Taking
I love your explanations and the way you put such care into your research! My kids have even started listening in whenever I play one of your vids. That being said, please do take care of yourself! Burnout can take something you love and care about doing and make it so exhausting that you feel trapped by what used to be an escape. Love your content, but take care of you first :)
Intergrating human mannerisms probably was also why we had Cayde coughing after he was shot by Uldren.
And as far as we know, Felwinter was an artificial consciousness in an Exo body and therefore wouldn't need a reset.
Yeah, as the “son” of Rasputin I think he was just a simulation of human consciousness created by Rasputin putting an aspect of himself into an exo
It would also make sense that Cayde's "cough" was so that outside observers could tell when something was wrong with an Exo.
"Dude, you just got shot in the chest. But you're a robot right, so you're gonna be fine - it probably didn't hit anything important, right?"
"Yeah - hack, cough - totally missed all the important - cough - stuff"
"Alright buddy, hang in there. Let's get you to a mechanic."
@@SlyBlu7 Sounds kinda genius when put like that.
Tho better not tell Clovis. His head is already big enough.
It is nice to have complete lore on all three of our playable races. So much behind the choice of who your guardian is, something to ground them to the fascinating world we travel in.
Random question: Has there been any lore pieces to explain why Wyvern vex are a thing now?
WHO GAVE HARPIES LEGS IS WHAT IM ASKING
simple, the vex are always evolving new containers for their Radiolaria/ weapons to fulfill their timeline, so, they are simply creating a new implement of war by combining 2 pre existing tech pieces, which is more efficient then making something from scratch
I was mostly just curious if they were a type of vex specifically crafted due to what Clovus Bray had been doing much like how they made a custom vex mind to counter the hive in oryx's throne world
Wyverns are first glimpse that we've had of actual Vex soldiers
Goblins, Harpy's, Minotaurs, Hydras, Gate Lords are all essential construction workers of sorts.
Wyverns are sent to Europa as a direct result of Clovis' meddling.
Bye, I love these videos where you summarize the lore. The vids where you read the lore verbatim are nice too, but this is paced way better and easier to digest
I am still waiting for an answer on the long slow whisper. when bungie does that, I can rest haha
I'm so excited that we're finally getting exo lore, I've been so curious about it all since destiny year 1
5:43 someone’s been using the lament too much
Even though I read the lore books/wiki inside out you always come up with new info. This is awesome, hope you can pump these out every few days.
Perhaps darkenss played a role in the creation of the human mind
yes great point
Thank you for the content. Please take your time and don’t burn out. I really appreciate your work.

Hey Byf what about when cyade 6 mentioned the long slow whisper
The Long Slow Whisper is the veil statue in Clarity Control.
I gotta admit, i didn't expect to hear about the sword logic (which i still think should be called the blade logic, because it works with all bladed weapons, like spears, axes, etc.) but it makes complete sense
Ok but this doesn't explain why Elsie is abnormally cute
*CUSTOM BODY*
Aside from that yeah, I simp for Elsie too
*abnormally thicc
What if Anna is really an exo too with a more advanced human looking body... For instance we know that her eyes are mechanical in nature from past season cut scene when see scans the horizon on Mars and we see it from her perspective. If that were true that would be a hoot...
That one piece looking bodysuit on elsie has some pretty good form factor
Question is, apart from her cloak is her exo body naked? Seeing as we can see the mechanical parts.
Except Exos don’t have to sound the same as their living counterparts. See: Banshee vs Clovis.
That could also be a part of the degradation from 44 resets in a single day.
@@Renthur1 basically smoked 44 packs of cigarettes in a day, thats how you get his voice.
Banshee had a bad startup, and Clovis-43 wanted to be different from his original self, it makes sense that Banshee would be the one exo that sounds different
Then again Banshee might actually have the voice of Clovis and the AI might have the fake voice, you never know
you do know banshee is clovis. right?
GOD YES!!! IVE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU BYF!!!
The DSC "Statue" moves by the way.
The one in the Moon kinda did too, although that was more within texture than mesh.
And I mean, it's creepy, but it's perfectly fitting for the Darkness.
Excellent work as always, Byf! Thank you so much!
hey byf, the "math formula" is actually a chemical equation. math uses equal signs and chemistry uses the arrows
Ya know. This would mean humans are the only ones that were not born of both light and darkness
Maybe we are. I wouldn't be surprised if they pulled the classic 'the real darkness is human nature" bullshit.
