    Solid review. Ive heard applying a bit of wax to your shoe’s toe cleats gets rid of the clicking noise. Ive been riding on step ons for 3 seasons and picked up a pair of step on X’s for my orca and I’m super impressed. Very responsive either way but the X’s give just a bit more agility. Wont consider ever going back to strap in binding after this. They just work!

    • @gooz
      @gooz  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks Justine & Nate! I’ll have to try that. I read that the X’s are more responsive because of their carbon-blend high backs. Is that what you mean? And awesome, a step on convert😁 if I get a second pair of step on bindings for my other board, I’ll probably do the same

  • @edbaker375

    These are total game changers for fellow east coast riders. With 750 vertical feet in PA, I never realized how much time & effort was wasted sitting and strapping-in 30x per day for a 2 minute run. Now I take shake my head while clicking-in as I skate past all my former strapping spots. First handful of times was a little rough with leading pinky toe pain (top of foot), but was able to work through that and it's gone now. If I head back to Whistler for some top-to-bottoms, I may take some strap-ons as a back-up or to alternate days with; never again on east coast though.

    I bought the step on's with photons in the end of last season. Had a change to ride them out a good couple of times with dannydavis deep thinker and can say it is my dream setup and have not been waiting a season to start this much over the years. The setup is sort of saying very skatey and responsive, witch is perfect for me being an old skateboarder. I am amazed that this system has not blown up yet in the user market. Thanks for making these vids to spread the word of this awesome system.

      Hey kikkihiiri I really appreciate your comment😊 I hope my videos spread the word too! Too many purist holding back with their skepticism. I picked this up beginning of last season and the responsiveness of the locked heel back is amazing for my aggressive riding style. I love cutting big fast carves and slashing. Maybe cruisers would want something softer with traditional straps, but I couldn't get enough of it.

    In 1998 or so I bought the Step IN set. Rode that until about 2017 when I moved most of the way across the country. I now ride the Step ON with photon set. I will *never* go back to straps if I can help it, just get so much more riding done with the Step systems.
    *note: I'm 40, ride mostly groom and powder, and not super big jumps or park, though I am hoping next season to start * (this season is a write off for me, given my proximity to things and the restrictions in place)

      @@gooz loved the og steps. They latched at the sides so were easier to get into after surviving the chair unloading 😃
      The new setup feels more secure though, and the only downside is the release lever is sometimes hard to reach(that's mostly because I am fat and can't touch my toes though)

    I have recently bought step on boots and bindings. I don’t hear a clicking sound and I have started feeling really comfortable with the security. I always ride with the leash attached just in case but putting that on is a once only event. I would say though for the costs involved I don’t personally think it’s worth it and I’m just as content in my original set up. It’s worth noting that the step in bindings aren’t quite as adjustable as a regular binding for instance i ride goofy 50/50 15 degrees but I can only get the step on to about 14.5.

    i've been using step on like over 2 years, the clicking sound actually doesn't bother me at all. I don't feel any loss of response even if there's gap, furthermore my parts are actually worn, but still same clicking sound and give me same response that I used this very first time. most of people think that clicking sound make less response, but technically not. well, they are actually not believing step on system because it's not traditional system like straps. here's one thing that if there's no gap between bindings and boots, it'll break the bindings all the time. that little space actually keep bindings alive. it is called free-play, simple science.

      Hey Mark that’s awesome you’ve been riding them since they launched! Hmm I adjusted the footbed to where it’s marked out for my boot size but another comment by @Sugarbroz says the clicking comes from the toe clip-cleat gap which allows for flexibility

    hey whats going on bro. on valentines day me and my girl going to big snow for our second time riding. im in shop they have union stratas and burton step on. which ones would u perfer for park free style. i been skateboarding my whole life and decided to try this out last week and now addicted lol. idk what my problem is but when i try to stop or turn i eat shit in the snow. i so used to stopping on a skateboard turning backside or lifting up my front wheels to drift the back 2 that maybe that habbit is messing me up on a snowboard.

      @gooz  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey bro thanks for commenting😁 that’s a sweet date! I know a lot of people ride Unions for freestyle. I can say I’m excited to use my Step Ons for more park riding because of their responsiveness and they do save a lot of time to get more runs in. At Big Snow they offer test rides of the Step Ons so I recommend you try them out to help you decide!
      That’s awesome you’ve skated your whole life! Skateboarding can definitely help in learning snowboarding, but some things are a bit different. Think of stopping like powersliding, but you always lean into the edge (toe or heel) closer to the top of the hill. If you lean on the downhill edge, you’ll catch it and fall.
      Also, try leaning more onto your leading foot and treating the back foot like a rudder to initiate turns. That helped me fall less starting out. Let me know if these tips help!

      There are other videos of them used in powder. There is very little issue with powder since the mechanism to click in is not under foot. There is also 2 "clicks" in the heel mechanism. Both work, and the first is for if there is some volume under foot. The next click is what most riders want to click in to when there is not snow in your binding. You have to manage the powder on most runs, but news is you can click in standing in deep powder with little issue.

    The best bet is just step out forward. I don't find I need to twist in any way. Just pull the lever and step right out straight ahead. These bindings are great. I have had no issues and love the ease of use. Just tug your pants up and step in if you are someone who doesn't like the clip. I just don't use it and lift the pants up and step in, all in one motion off the lift.

    burton is a trash company worst customer service, they get you to buy
    their gear but if a boot is too tight and you call them up they assume
    you want to return it.. my response was did i say i want to return it?
    but where is the modification department to help me fit in my boot
    better? there is no help at all they just say they cant help. greeattttt
    thanks for the help i will never recommend them now... my left foot is
    good my right foot where the tongue bends is putting so much pressure on
    my foot to the point its rolling my bone, i already heat molded and
    took the insole out, a little better with the insole out. which they
    didnt say that. they dont even help at all they just assume i want to
    return them.

      Haha you must be great fun on the mountain, thinking you're an elitist skier or boarder and everybody else has to go.
      Ofcourse being able to go down the steepest off piste mountains since you were 3 years old never being a noob at one point. Just share and enjoy together!
      I'm thinking of buying these because I'm 40 and still like to board but my body doesn't like the whole sitting/kneeling down ritual that much anymore, not because I don't know how to use straps.
      But once you outgrow puberty you'll understand this better (I hope atleast)
