This particular one day build is my absolute favorite. Fantastic mix of building and working sounds, and conversation/stories. It has been a while, but I'm still hopeful more like this can happen.
I just spent over an hour watching two grown men build and paint toys and models and it was absolutely awesome! I hope one day I have a buddy over and he goes through my house and says, "This is crazy! You're ten!" because, let's be honest. That's the real dream.
***** Actually wish they hadn't sped up the ending. Would have loved to continue watching the whole build in normal speed. You know we missed a bunch of humor and stories.
***** In a world full of high speed, non stop work and action, It's so nice to just slow down and appreciate the simple things for a time. This video reminds us of that and I love it.
I just spent over an hour in ultimate geekdom watching this, and absolutely loved it, cheers guys. Adam you should have more guests on like Aaron for this length of time, doing stuff like this, watching him relax and the cool stories bouncing back and forth whilst making cool figurines was unusually enthralling to watch. Its no wonder I gave up watching normal tv years ago!
its unreal to me how much time i can spend whatching adam tinker. perfectly content, just watching. it shouldnt be exciting but it is for whatever reason. After i usually walk into my tool room and try something, usually a different painting technique or a new idea for aging a piece, but this dude brings creativity OUT of peeople, and that my friend is a gift!
I've never seen Battle Star Galactica or heard of Arron Douglas, but after watching this I must now watch the whole series. Arron just seems like such a nice and cool guy.
Solarstar10 I've never understood the whole misspelling Aaron as Arron thing. I get it all the time, but I don't know anyone who knows someone who spells it Arron, even the people I ask who misspell it. Though I know quite a few Aaron's.
Solarstar10 Sad thing is that there was some pretty big spoilers here... but maybe you'll forget them while you watch the serie. Anyway, hope you'll enjoy it, it's a very good show (though it's a slow paced drama, not an action sci-fi show, be warned :) )
Well the slow pacing definitely doesn't bother me and I've forgotten most of the plot stuff he mentioned so I think I'm definitely gonna enjoy the hell out of this show.
Be sure to start with the miniserie, which serves as a pilot (it's pretty long for a pilot, but you'll understand everything better later) and check at which point to watch the different films and webseries. And if you liked all of that, there's the web serie Blood and chrome and se prequel show Caprica to watch after. Have fun ! :)
i miss Battlestar Galactica .......and Bob Ross....I had no idea how much fun it would be to watch two dudes build and paint models....then again it's two of the coolest dudes on the planet...and off planet ;)
I've met Aaron at 4 different conventions - one of which I organized. He always tells this story, so I've heard it a bunch of times. It just never gets old!
I loved this! Watching two grow men relaxing, shooting the shit and getting creative. The stories brought back memories of watching Bob Ross on Sunday mornings. I'm a few yrs younger than these two but not enough that I didn't grow up watching the same morning and late night shows! RIP Robin Williams - you're missed, loved and still bring smiles to millions!
I have watched this no less than half a dozen times so far start to finish. When i'm working on an R/C car, Model kit, etc. It's the best just watching Aaron and Adam being Aaron and Adam.
This is a jewel, a treasure to behold... a casual window of two awesome and impressively talented people, building and painting models together in Adam's cave... The enjoyment of conversation, the stories... Its so... incredibly simple!! You see, these moments captured for the world to visualize and be apart, THIS represents the epitome of simplistic experience where long-lasting joy and happiness thrives in our lifetimes! The events that follow a model Cylon raider and painted model of Chief Tyrol, the moments looking at the detail and quality, the memories that surface in those moments are priceless and precious!! I will feel that when you two look a this video, years later; the completed models with dust particles and aging display (albeit master craftsmanship) and say, "mmm, that was a good time together!" I hope you see this Adam, 5 years later from when you posted this!! Thank you from the future during the COVID-19 lockdown, and binge watching your incredible work and craftsmanship "One Day Builds". I ask, and as you share in them often, "can they all be ONE day builds (and not two or three)? :) THANK YOU for sharing this time with one of the most legendary shows of our time with one of its best performing actors, Aaron Douglas. Thank you!
Adam, my son who is now 23 years ago turned me on to Myth Busters right about the time the show had just come out....LOVED IT....used to talk about it on the air....retired now (was a morning radio show host for 35+years) and all the while I thought you and Jamie were special EFX guys who now had their own show putting those skills to use in a creative way testing myths...never realized you were such a skilled modeler who had worked at ILM and other notable places as a model maker/designer etc. Dude, your skills are sick!!! I've been building models on and off since my Dad introduced me to the hobby when I was 8 and did it in my spare time which didn't happen often enough....now retired and picking it up again and loved the cosmonaut build...just friggin awesome, loved this one day build with Aron Douglas & the Moebius BSG kits and wish you would do a whole series of one day builds! It could be it's own thing and go a VERY LONG WAY to introducing it to a generation of kids who desperately need to learn how to enjoy this hobby! And with you doing it, they would follow and think it was cool. I, like you, worry that kids don't seem to be enjoying this hobby because of all the other distractions with instant gratification. You brother could go along way to helping to bring it back to a few generations with one day builds complete with your weathering techniques which I also love to do. Let's face it...it's a truly fabulous hobby, and the newer kits are better now, resin kits have become so much better, I'm having more fun building now than I ever have, with LED's, LED Tape, Photo Etch and I really believe there's a lot of people who would feel the same. Just a thought, love the one day builds the most.
You are so lucky to have someone to build with and shoot the crap with. When I am out in my shop, I listen to audio books with my ear shields on. After watching this I want to invite some friends over and do a build with. Then I stop and think about it and think it would cost me a friend because I am a freaking perfectionist and have to do everything myself. I will live vicariously through you.
Adam, you inspired me to buy the Cylon kit and do my own one day build. I've been building models for 55+ years, and can't remember the last time I had this much fun! I'm so used to spending weeks/months puttying, sanding, modifying, lighting, painting and decalling my models; The last time I opened up a kit, slapped it together in a day, and painted it in 5 minutes, I was still in my teens. Turned out awesome - what a hoot! Q: during the video, you mentioned you were going to base coat the Cylon with gloss black, then grey, and finally dust it with gunmetal. However, I only saw you use two colors: black and gun metal (which is what I chose)
Is there a way that you guys could get Adam and Jimmy DiResta in the same room? It could be a one day build. It could also be an exchange of craftsmanship tales, experiences and techniques. For your consideration.
McJaews Diresta is amazing. I never saw his TV show while it was on but I have watched almost every youtube video of his and most of the ones on make (which are mostly the same).
I was ready to be disappointed he didn't choose to build the Viper (just feels so wrong for Tyrol to work on anything else), but that was a great story about seeing the Raider "in real life" for the first time. Well done Aaron Douglas :)
Perfect example of two friends having fun with things they have done as a child, but not knowing each other . As they meet later on in life , they find out they love model making . This is honestly a fantastic time between friends . They bull shit , throw some " thats what she said " jokes around and its beautiful . I honestly dont iknow how many times ive watched this but i love watching it and i"ll probably watch it 1000x more .
17:55 Adam, you’re the bob ross for nerds. I was having bad anxiety/ panic attacks earlier tonight, and after watching a few one day build videos I’m feeling much better. Watching you have fun and do something you enjoy is so inspirational and calming. You are one of my childhood idols. Keep on rocking dude!
Adam is that one over passionate friend that doesn’t realize you might’ve wanted to do some of the work yourself but you actually then don’t care cause it’s just awesome to see him work with all that passion and love
YES! YES! YES! As a LIFE LONG Modeler who is now soon to be 55 I too worry about the FUTURE Of "Modeling" which also speaks to "Practical Effects" in movies and TV dying to "CGI"! I for one will NEVER EVER STOP building models! It's how I get through the long, cold winters of Wisconsin. I LOVE these videos. PLEASE Adam do more on Model Building. You do it SO WELL! :D Thanks. Joe
When Aaron commented on the look of the ship as a throwing weapon I instantly thought of the 'glaive' from Krull. Then Adam mentioned Krull not 30 seconds later. So I would like to see Adam do a one day build of the glaive!!!
I love putting on Adam's one day builds while I'm in the workshop. Keeps me entertained and often I learn something new. Loved that quick paintjob on the centurion! Gorgeous result for something so simple.
I don't know why this is so relaxing to me, but the quiet with sounds of spraying, snipping and talk, it just really relaxes me. i'd like more episodes like this.
Lorcan Nagle Alphonse and the Griffin were the first anime models I ever put together. I remember one of Griffin's wings kept drooping for some reason.
I remember first watching this 7 years ago and it reminded me off all the star wars models i built as a kid, and made me really want to get back into modeling. It took a few years to get life to a point i had the facilities to do it, but about a year ago i started collecting and building again, and am now completing my 50th kit in the last year re-watching this. Thanks for the inspiration!
This is definitely one of the most "Geeky" video that i watched on youtube, some dudes (yeah, i know, they are not "some dudes" they are almost fraking legends [yeah, i use the "frak" expression too] lol) building some model kits, and i watch the whole video from start to finish.... and i enjoy it, greetings from Chile!!!
victor manuel fernandez baeza Jajajajajaja se, es hermosamente geek este video, sobre todo las historias de BSG que cuenta Aaron Douglas, de hecho, gracias a este video me comprare un modelo a escala del Galactica xD Saludos Compatriota! Aguante Chile no me importa nada vieja! XD
I know how Aaron Douglas felt on seeing the full sized viper mk2, Back in 1978, while I was doing a detex patrol, ( I ws a security officer there), I entered stage 27, or was it stage 28, well I entered and saw the original viper fighter,
Adam, this has got to be one of the coolest episodes so far! My hat's off, sir! Not only did you get to build some BSG models with Aaron Douglas (What could be cooler than that?) in one of the best tinker's caves I have ever seen! You gave us a good glimpse into your passion for Sci-Fi and the icing on the cake was the Serenity Poster hanging on the back of the door! A W E S O M E!!! I did learn some things about my model building technique's (lack of... to be precise). You and the rest of "Tested Team" are doing a great job!
I've watched this one way too much already. It's such a nice way to do an "interview" to see how they react. Still hope that tested will be doing more of this. just 2 people.. building something.. while telling stories/doing an "interview" And love to see more of Aaron Douglas together with adam!
A comment that Adam said rang true, regarding the hobby dying..That is something I wish that he would try to push into the mainstream and even start a show focused on the hobby. Due to the awareness of him it could be taken more seriously by producers and a network to air it on but maybe Tested could start it and once it has enough veiwership then take it to a network...more of the younger generations would be able to see the actual act of building a model and get back to the levels it was 20 to 30 years ago....thanx
This was simply delightful to watch. All the memories of younger model building days with some pro tips, plus great behind the scenes production stories. All while a couple famous guys let their geek hang out. A great hour of stress relief. :)
you should check out Gunpla if you're worried about model making becoming a dying art, Adam, it is almost wholly responsible for the world's largest model making boom.
blackmantaman Gundam kits are a hige moneyspinner for my local comic shop this past year, to the point where we've started a Gundam club. Once a month, a half dozen nerds sit in the shop basement/social club, build kits, play computer and hombebrew Gundam war games, and watch the show.
OMG!!! This is AWESOME!!! Having actually met the Chief at a convention, I can CONFIRM that he is just a COOL GUY that I could sit and listen to FOR HOURS!!!! And its funny, his Robin Williams story occurred almost identical to his Bono...
Just found this video, my best friend and I would do this, of course there was beer. We would BS and build models for hours. Aug 2017 he passed away, I actually found his body one night. I can't tell you how much I miss him. Enjoy every second of this video. RIP Alec.
at 23:24 Adam goes home with painted nails all of the time reminds me when I passed out (yeah whisky) in a girl's dorm room. I woke with painted nails well it didn't stop there. I made the girls do my hair (I had long hair then) and I dressed in drag and made them take me out (in a small college town) and the looks we got were priceless.
+A. Finch In another one of the episodes he has the bench grinder under it, I'm guessing something flew off the grinder or one of the sanders and nailed it?
mojostevo that's what I'm thinking too. But I believe it was the 16" disc sander I saw under and to the right. I am curious still, as he always uses. The down stroke side of the sander. (The 8" left of center)
Late catch to the 1 Day Build series, but I loved this. Its exactly how my best friend and I geek out when we're in town together. Great laughs and memories. I wish more kids took up the hobby, as it would bring back so much missing from today's phone screen culture. Thanks Gents.
Wow...this was first time i watched one of Adam Savage's One Day Builds. What great fun to watch him and Chief galen from BSG make some cool models and chat about some neat things that happened to them. I loved making models as a boy. My first model was Lost IN Space Cyclops holding big boulder over the Robinson family. Not the one with the Chariot unfortunately. And soon after that I made AMT USS Enterprise and it even had tiny lights for the engine nacelles and the bridge dome. I had fun just holding the engineering section in my hand by the verticle part of the stand and pretending it was a Phaser. Thanks for the great model build guys.
Aaron Douglas joined Adam two years later on his San Diego Comic-Con panel Watch it here: th-cam.com/video/K8414lPiyjc/w-d-xo.html

Just watched two guys make models for an hour. 10/10 would do again
After 1 year, you can watch It again.
I think I've watched this at least six times so far. I just love watching Adam build stuff.
you can also watch it 5 years later, and it's still awesome!
It's a timeless classic!
2021, and I am doing it again.

"Oh my god! You're ten!" He's been here two seconds, and already he understands Adam perfectly.
He's saying "Your DEN" not TEN
transparent91
Mine still works, and I think the fact that I heard 'ten' says a lot about Adam and what we expect about his character.
No. He definitely say's "you're ten".
He said "ken"
transparent91 defiantly says "ten"
As a 40k player, it warms my heart to see someone who drills their gun barrels.
"I read it on Reddit, it could be a total lie." Words of wisdom right there
Reddit; the first website by kids- for kids!
I was literally on amazon trying to find those flush cutters when Adam tells that he custom made them... Of course he did
I seriously want a set of those snippers. He should patent and sell them.
You too? :D
Adam has a lovely singing voice, I had no idea!
Wow, never thought I would enjoy an hour of watching paint dry so much!
i miss Battlestar Galactica .......and Bob Ross....I had no idea how much fun it would be to watch two dudes build and paint models....then again it's two of the coolest dudes on the planet...and off planet ;)
And Robin Williams :(
"Douglas just cold-cocked the sound guy!" best part of the whole video!

Needs more Thumbs Up
I return to this video every couple of months or so and I cry from laughing at that part every time! Too damn funny.
It makes me happy that Robin Williams was a massive BSG fan.

Rocket RaccoonMe too.
To watch paint dry while two grown men act like 12 year olds? Me too.

Nerds for the win. :-)

mannn invite this dude back more Aaron and adam was a total treat to watch!
I love how focused Adam gets on everything he does. He's an inspiration
Adam, you inspired me to buy the Cylon kit and do my own one day build. I've been building models for 55+ years, and can't remember the last time I had this much fun! McJaews Oh yes!! I would love to see a Jimmy / Adam collaboration.
McJaews That would be too awesome...
Then get this comment to the top so it can't be ignored:) I mean, it's only a polite request by fans of two inspirational figures.
Agreed. Lets see this happen friends. Adam either you can fly out to Jimmy and hang out in his workshop.
McJaews Diresta is amazing. I never saw his TV show while it was on but I have watched almost every youtube video of his and most of the ones on make (which are mostly the same).

Ah, those silences where you hope the other guy is just as comfortable with not talking as you are.
DaaaahWhoosh very true words
Yeah and suddenly he starts singing Heather on the Hill warm and peacefully..36:04
Why do you always gotta yap-yap-yap about fucking nonsense to feel comfortable? The real problem is most people can never STFU!
Every girlfriend has trouble understanding. (That I’ve heard about)
Silence among true friends is never uncomfortable.
This needs to happen again
All that has happened before will happen again. Good to see Aaron again.
So I decided to stay up 2 hours after I'm supposed to go to sleep when I have a test tomorrow. And I watched this ENTIRE thing. I have no regrets.
How did you do on your test?
HOWD YOU DO ON THE GODDAMN TEST, YEETY??
@@angeleaterstudios1004 I don’t remember the exact score but I know I passed lol
17:55 Adam, you’re the bob ross for nerds. I was having bad anxiety/ panic attacks earlier tonight, and after watching a few one day build videos I’m feeling much better. I just found out you can watch youtube videos at .5 speed. 2 drunk dudes building models.
+The Milkman Oh god it 100% sounds just like that.
+The Milkman Oh my GOSH, that is hilarious. I cant stop watching it that way, now.
+The Milkman 29:30 with .5 speed ahahaha

Videos like these are so enjoyable to just have on while you work on something creative yourself! ^^
+Miindmusic Jag Måste hålla med ;3
I do the same thing. I actually have them chatting while building models myself, hehe.
Exactly! I have been doing photoshop. Watching it for the second time!
Did not realize Aaron was such a geek in real life :) great video. man i miss Battlestar..
+Shane Ploenges greatest show
The BSG remake is now 17 years old. Suddenly I feel ancient
Adam is that one over passionate friend that doesn’t realize you might’ve wanted to do some of the work yourself but you actually then don’t care cause it’s just awesome to see him work with all that passion and love
NO 1 in all segments on Tested - One Day Builds with Adam :)
I could literally listen to Adam & Aaron swap stories for hours
I love watchin' Adam build things. There's something very satisfying about watching him build.
Aaron deserves an award for his role as Gordon Rimmer in Dirk Gently. that was one of the most memorable and hilarious characters I've seen all year
Ridiculous how relaxing watching this was.
actually, i find watching this really soothing for some reason.
never saw battlestar galactica, never heard of this guy, but still, this is gold
its the best sci-fi put to film, watch it. so realistic, dramatic, so unbelievably good.
Recalling the memories of John and Robin brought tears to my eyes.
"douglas cold cocked the sound guy!" I hurt myself laughing...
YES! YES!

Thanks.
Joe
Good job camera/sound men. They were so good I often forgot there were like six crew guys standing next to Adam and Aaron the whole time.
Six years later and I still rewatch this episode. Aaron has such comedic energy
I need a full episode on how to build the Adam Savage custome side cutters. Please and thanks :D
I cracked up hearing the story of Aaron and the sound guy. I was in tears so badly I just teared up even more trying to wipe the tears away.
He looks like Jack Black's weird brother
+Donnie Montoya I think that jack black is jack black's weird brother...
+Donnie Montoya dire times when Jack Black would be the more normal one.
Its jack blacks nerd bother
I don't know, he looks a bit more like Jon Favreau :3
Donnie Montoya ikr
I absolutely love seeing the boom mic in the picture. It gives this whole B rated vibe to this episode of Tested. Good show fellas!
When Aaron commented on the look of the ship as a throwing weapon I instantly thought of the 'glaive' from Krull. Then Adam mentioned Krull not 30 seconds later. So I would like to see Adam do a one day build of the glaive!!!

I don't know why this is so relaxing to me, but the quiet with sounds of spraying, snipping and talk, it just really relaxes me. i'd like more episodes like this.
Adam's singing was great! Who knew?!
This pandemic allowed me to re-watch the new BSG twice.. and I'm about to watch it again.. So Say We All.
Oh god. Alphonse is a Cylon!? I wonder how Ed will react.
JustCallMe Jonny I was thinking Patlabor in all honesty
That show rocks
ranwolf76 And I just finished making one of the old 90s kits of Alphonse!
Lorcan Nagle
Alphonse and the Griffin were the first anime models I ever put together.
Aguante Chile no me importa nada vieja! XD
PLEASE!!! Make these a regular feature! Celebrity model kit building and behind the scenes anecdotes!
Mystery flash man at 36:48
Glad i wasn't the only one who noticed
I've watched this one way too much already. It's such a nice way to do an "interview" to see how they react.
Still hope that tested will be doing more of this. just 2 people.. building something.. while telling stories/doing an "interview"
And love to see more of Aaron Douglas together with adam!
I don't think even a show would help sadly, most people I talk to always go oh I don't have the patience for it
At 50 years old, this took me back 35-40 years. I loved the child hood memories with my model planes, cars, train lay-outs, and D&D miniatures ! :)
Still actively watching this in 2020... Gets me back into model building every time
I didn't watch the Battlestar reboot, but this guy makes me wanna watch it.
U should. It's great! :)
U should. It's great! :)
I gotta admit, having this on during my work days and non-audio related video editing is really pleasing
"you got to watch out for those left side hoes" made me crack up. Love this series, very Bob Ross like to watch :D
Why is it so entertaining to see two guys having the most random conversations? Is still eludes me but I am thoroughly captivated.
The barbarella space rifle is drying in the background so this must have been shot about 5 months ago
This was simply delightful to watch. All the memories of younger model building days with some pro tips, plus great behind the scenes production stories. All while a couple famous guys let their geek hang out. A great hour of stress relief. :)
I love watching Adam create things and talk about his past, it's just so exciting to hear and see.
The sound guy story was so funny
I never thought I would love watching two guys building models and just hanging out as much as I have watching this. Thank you 💕
this is so frakin cool
I
I'd love to see Adam and Aaron do this again; These two personalities go so well together
this is some really nice ASMR type stuff right here x3
This has got to be one of the coolest things I've seen on this channel, awesome
you should check out Gunpla if you're worried about model making becoming a dying art, Adam, it is almost wholly responsible for the world's largest model making boom.
Also, i loved this episode. To bits.
blackmantaman that is an amazing idea.... im working on a RX 78-2 myself and they're awesome :)
FireStarterCanti I TOO am watching this while building a Gunpla. In this case a 1/144 Jesta Cannon
blackmantaman This whole episode i keep thinking, "I should just mail them a Gunpla! Like the MG Musha Gundam"
blackmantaman Gundam kits are a hige moneyspinner for my local comic shop this past year, to the point where we've started a Gundam club.
Hot damn I feel that Adam would love Warhammer 40000.
I've been thinking that exact same thing as I watch his videos.
Just found this video, my best friend and I would do this, of course there was beer. We would BS and build models for hours. Aug 2017 he passed away, I actually found his body one night. I can't tell you how much I miss him. Enjoy every second of this video. RIP Alec.
i LOVE these episodes, they are too far in between in my opinion :D
at 23:24 Adam goes home with painted nails all of the time reminds me when I passed out (yeah whisky) in a girl's dorm room. I woke with painted nails well it didn't stop there. I made the girls do my hair (I had long hair then) and I dressed in drag and made them take me out (in a small college town) and the looks we got were priceless.
when did that mirror thing in the back break?
That's what I want to know! It's a prop from Bladerunner. I feel really bad for Adam about it. but I want to know what happened too.
I mean... c'mon! Seriously? Is there anything you can't do, Adam? Even your singing voice is awesome. This is just getting ridiculous.
Neeken He really sings very lovely.
Neeken I really want to know what song he was singing
Cole Pang The song is called "Heather On The Hill" from the musical Brigadoon
mangabb Thank you very much
+Neeken Challenge accepted. It's doubtful he can endure equatorial sunlight for moderate periods of time.
why is this so therapeutic to watch?, it is so calming
Damn, Adam can sing! :)
...and yes "Oh my god, you're ten", sums it up.
I build models a lot, and I'm currently working on an F-18. I Want to know where you got that glue, as it would make my models go together easier.
Adam, your channel is such a gift to other makers. Your skill, your passion, your experience.. all of it is so motivat8ng.
