i think its awesome that there is a female who is leading or involve in the lion dance community... not to say there isn't any girls in your typical lion dance troupe but for her to be an instructor as well is quite amazing... she must of been doing this in her early childhood... it tastes a long long time before one can really be qualify to be an instructor or master in the troupe... good for her...
I'm so glad to see more publicity around lion dance. As a millenials kung fu practitioner and lion dancer it's great to see other young people practice tradition... And no it's not a dragon!
Not really, but they plaster these people as if they're the best of the best, they're not that good, it's just that they speak good English and know how to advertise.
I got to see a really long dragon that would have the roads blocked off as it was a massive event every year until I moved. It's always a really fun thing to see, and I hope you could see the ones in china were they jump from pole to pole, its really fun.
A lot of this info isn’t true. I walked into my team practice for the first time and pick up a lion head and now after about 5-6 months I’m one of the better lion dancers on my team.
On chinease newyear when I was probably 8 or 7 years old, I had this in my school. The lion dancers were climbing on a very tall pole lol it was shaking
This is really cool. But it's not lost in America, it's just not part of the American culture. But really what is our culture? I guess whatever another culture isn't, is our culture lol But I hope this spreads and becomes popular. Also what's with Asian cultures and training for years before beginning the first step. 1 year before holding the head? Damn guys lol
From what I see, America doesn't have a distinct culture. That is because we encourage others to keep their cultures and bring them into our country and stick with them. Our melting pot is no longer melting, just adding more ingredients. I have heard a lot of people say "I am not American I am such and such". But why is it so bad to be American when you live in America?
a year doesn't seem that long tbh. since they have multiple routines to learn and stances/forms to nail before actually preparing to perform. not to mention the physical strain would hurt like hell if you just jumped in without taking time to prepare and build your body
but all Americans do have culture, just a lot of people don't adapt to the american culture. and a time limit isn't earning anything. what if you still suck at the end of the year or are amazing 2 months in? what if 415City, what if? XD
"Millennials (also known as Generation Y) are the demographic cohort following Generation X (mostly in western countries). There are no precise dates for when this cohort starts or ends; demographers and researchers typically use the early 1980s as starting birth years and the mid-1990s to early 2000s as ending birth years." Do note that the kids graduating from high school today are not millenials. They are the next generation, normally referred to as Generation Z.
since when lion dance ward off evil spirits in the tang dynasty isn't it the lion where people are scared of cuz it eats ppl in the Chinese new year period?
tan hui en it's different. This lion called 'ba rong sai', the one who scared and eat people during the chinese new year is called 'nián' well that's what i know
As a part of Chinese class, during the Chinese lunar festival for the lion dance, I played the tail. It was really fun too :)
Hinata Nanase who is it in your profile pic?

Dragon and Lion dances are both two completely different things
i’m pretty sure us asians know
YES
@@lynox908 fr
@@lynox908yea but non asians can't tell the difference
I love these... wait, what?? Lion?? I always thought it was a dragon... TIME TO LEARN!!
actually, there's both lion and dragon dancing, but dragon dancing needs a lot more people
tomytomtom1 we use the broad term 舞(dance)龍(dragon)舞(dance)獅(lion) to mean both dragon and lion dance
Lion dance has two people to coordinate, Dragon dance has more than two, usually about nine!
There is a Dragon Dance too - it's a larger variant of the Lion Dance. You don't see Dragon Dances in North America often tho.
I absolutely love this channel and all the grate content. This is my favorite so far. Please keep up the great work.

I was always scared of the dragons when I was a kid. Now I'm fascinated. I love visiting Chinatown and seeing this.
I love these culture videos because it enlightens me about the world and the human customs!
Help me understand this. Why would anyone click on a thumb-down button for this? Does this video in any way offend them???
In this day and age, there is bound to be someone offended by everything.
It’s inaccurate
Not really, but they plaster these people as if they're the best of the best, they're not that good, it's just that they speak good English and know how to advertise.
R Y well, yeah, it’s really inaccurate and yeah...
I notice that none of the lion heads eyes are not dotted red. Didn't each lion head go though the eye dotting ceremony?
preserving culture is always amazing. i would love to see lion dances in china. i'll get there someday and hopefully make a mini documentary about it.

I thought this was dragon dancing... Are you Lion to me?
BrownieBear YT I appreciate you
Lion dance and Dragon dance are separate. Lion Dance has two people to coordinate, Dragon Dance has more than two. But there is both.
dragons are the ones on the sticks.

Really great video. I love that she's the instructor! In the past, lion dancing was males only.

American doesnt have many cultures of it own because it's made of many different cultures. Beautiful!!
That means America does have its own culture, one massive culture consisting of many unique ones blended together.
From what I see, America doesn't have a distinct culture. That is because we encourage others to keep their cultures and bring them into our country and stick with them. Our melting pot is no longer melting, just adding more ingredients. I have heard a lot of people say "I am not American I am such and such". How can you be 20 something years old and be a millenial? For beeing 20 you need to be born atleast in 1997. That is not even close to 2000
