HOW TO LENGTHEN A GOLF CLUB FROM HOME WITHOUT A SHAFT EXTENSION

I EXTENDED THE LENGTH OF MY PUTTER FROM HOME!
In todays video I am extending the length of a SCOTTY CAMERON PUTTER which has been cut down to 32"! I am going to restore the length of the putter back to its original length of 34"!
There's a problem! A normal steel shaft extension doesn't fit!

I’m just an amateur, but I’ve done this in the past with old shafts also. What I try to do is fit to the very last “step” that will go in, so that the extension will be almost flush with the club shaft. If you don’t have calipers or a very sharp eye, you’ll probably need a little trial and error cutting. Take care Gaz.

Gaz, this is funny timing for this video. I had everything ready (old club) ready to get cut to add a 1/2 inch to my putter. Was about to cut and ended up finding an extension in the tool box.

I've used the method you demonstrated and, in a pinch, just a plain old wooden dowel. When I butt trim a shaft I always save the cut off end.

How do you re use the cut off end on a butt trim? I’ve never saved any?

@@garymartingolf Epoxy a hardwood dowel as a butt splice; one end into the shaft the saved piece over the dowel.

Yeah, I always look out for bargains between December and February, if you tidy them up, you can make a good profit from April onwards ⛳️

Gaz, my irons are +0.5” which I didn’t know until after I’d bought them. In your opinion should I just grip down on them, or trim them to standard length? Would it affect the swingweight a noticeable amount?

Are they factory built 0.5” longer, or were shaft extensions fitted?
If they were factory made, you could cut down 0.5”. Swing weight would be so fractional, you could use a slightly heavier grip or add an extra layer or tape if you was that particular.

@@garymartingolf usually shortening a club by 1/2 inch will decrease swing weight by 3 points, say D2 to C9.

Something not right when you add length the swing weight goes up so means there should be more head weight with longer

When I released this video, I had no idea about swing weight, it’s only in the last 12 months since starting a series with a master fitter, than I’ve gained so much knowledge on club building.
