Elite Dangerous - Orbits and Gravity

  • Here I test out performing a powerless orbit around a planet in Elite Dangerous. Gravitational acceleration is simulated correctly within the confines of the Horizons landable planets it would appear.
This is a minor update of my other video, it contains no new information, only the inclusion of an equation (we all love those!) and a spelling correction.

You seem to be the only person who's addressed this topic. Nice work!

I'm a KSP player myself and I'm about to start Elite:Dangerous. And this video is the first thing I wanted to know before it xD.

asking the right questions! ive been wondering FOREVER if this game simulated gravity or not, i will not ever play it if it does not.

I had a great talk with a flat earther in Oddball1975 's comment section. He was telling me that gravity doesn't exist (among other topics) and that what we know of the Earth, Gravity and the universe as a whole is all propaganda told to us by 'Them'!!! We are all sheep believing in fairy tales haha!!! I asked him how do ships slowly rise on the horizon out at sea, are they underwater initially and just slowly bob to the surface??? He didn't answer, but instead told me to check out his youtube channel dedicated to flat earth content. Wow, it is (in some circles) now considered fashionable to revert your thinking to a level humans were at many hundreds (or possibly 2000 years ago as that was when certain Greek astronomers started believing the Earth was round) of years ago. What a (flat) world we live in!!!

They are an interesting bunch this is for sure. The common thread being the "Look at this video" as an answer to everything. I have seen this on so many occasions, from 9/11 conspiracy theories right through to moon landings. Its always like
"Dude, do you know what yield strength is? and How it goes with temperature? and what happens to metal when you bend it and change its shape?"
      "Watch my video sheeple!"
      *sigh*

I had a similar problem with the "true knower" or whatever. He claimed that gravity does not exist and only the acceleration of the (flat, of course) Earth causes the illusion of the gravity. Now, let's forget the problem how fast that speed would be after (even only ...) some hundreds years of acceleration, but I told him, OK, then climb to the top of a big mountain and measure the weight (I mean in Newtons) of a given object, and repeat the process at eg sea level. If this is only acceleration, clearly, that should be the same, while the gravity field of Earth surely cannot be represented with an uniform vector field (which can be explained by "simple" acceleration). Surely, no answer since then. I am not a scientist or anything, but I'm interested in things like this, till a point that I can understand some (!! only !!) aspects even if the mathematics of general relativity (tensor calculus, and things) but this is not the point about me (me, as being only a fan of science without enough knowledge I would like to have ...), but the fact, that flat earth believer even cannot understand basic physics, which is about elementary school level or such, with much much more simple problems like this ... But the funny things, that he claimed acceleration is real not gravity, I guess he should learn more general relativity when this is thought further to "blame" the curvature of spacetime for the effect of gravity ;-P Anyway, this is so funny with other "clever" ideas, like: it's impossible that Sun goes around in the galaxy with that "ridiculous" speed, since it has not got a tail (!!!), while a comet is much slower (compared to what?) and still has a tail (caused by solar wind actually, nothing to do the with speed of the comet). WOW. So many details wrong here, that it cannot be even explained well enough. At least not by me. Also not with my really bad English here, sorry about that.

@ you've got a very good grasp of English and from what you've written I can see you're a very clever person. I think Flat Earthers just do it to be different and find others of their belief. They believe that there is a big conspiracy by all the government's of the world to trick us into believing the Earth is round, Gravity exists etc. But what would any government gain from tricking the masses??? I just find it all very confusing and very funny haha!!!
