It'd be great if you could do an episode with John Davis. There aren't too many videos showing his knowledge/pedalboard (not as much as I'd like). I really dig your vlog. Thanks for all the information you share with us. Greetings from Argentina.
Hi Janek, really digging the tones in todays video! Thanks for keeping up with the vlogs.I’m curious how the Bugcrusher-Meatbox combo would sound.Cheers
Hi Janek, I know you mentioned this before, but as far as the hook and loops go, which do you prefer for your pedal boards: rough on the pedals, smooth on the board or vice versa? Thanks in advance! As always great content in your videos!
Hi Janek, thank you for another great video. Here's my pedal question: how far along in your bass playing did you start using a pedal (apart from the tuner pedal maybe)? And what would be a good starting point for a new bass player to start using/trying out/experimenting with the pedals? Cheers ✌🏻
Hey Can, he actually talked about this before. He said that he wasn't into pedals for a long while. He then started using the EBS Octabass and the CEB-3 (I think). In my opinion if you want to start with pedals and don't have any idea which one then you should go to your retailer and try every pedal you possibly can out. I annoyed the crap out of the employees because I got there every other day and played so many pedals. But that really helps! Also check out Janeks Q&As. Really inspiring stuff! Cheers!
Can, maybe try a preamp/dirt pedal with some good EQ options, a modulation pedal (chorus/phaser/flanger etc...) and a good sub-octave pedal. Delay/reverb after that. Or just play!
Hey Janek, I remember a little while ago you were having problems with your ditto mini looper, what are you currently using for loopers? Have you moved on from the mini because of dependability issues (or others) or was that just a bad/broken pedal? Thanks :)
Hi Janek. Been following the vlog for a long time now and was a member of VBL for about 6 months. I have learned and continue to learn a lot from you. Thanks! My question about pedals is...as a musician you demonstrate that simplicity is key but I also notice that your pedal board can be rather involved with up to 12 pedals on it. Are there any draw backs artistically to having so many pedal choices? One can of course "over play" but is that line similar to pedals, why and why not?
Hello Janek, Great blog I've enjoyed it this past year. Does your PS-5 boss super shifter handle polyphonic pitch shifting? I was looking for a pedal to handle pitch shifting chords. Also have you tried any of the eventide, EHX or other companies who make similar pedals?
Hey Janek! Great to see you back on the vlogs. I was wondering if you have tried the Bananana Effects "Matryoshka", and if so, what did you think of it? Cheers from Portugal
Hi Janek! I have been watching your channel for over a year now, and I remember when you were very anti-"pedal board," opting rather to arrange the pedals loosely on the floor at your feet. What made you change your mind, as it looks like you're preparing a small board setup for the upcoming tour?
Hey Janek! I have a pedal question for you. If you had to use a different octave pedal, which would you use? Follow up question, have you tried the 3 Leaf Audio Octbvre? Also quick pedal power tip for you and the coffee drinkers! If you have to use a power splitter/daisy chain use it on your fuzzes and distortions. They use the least amount of milliamps. Thanks!
Also I know you don't have any intention of switching because you've got a whole shelf of the oc-2s. But are there any you've tried that have stood out amongst the bunch?
Janek, I have a question and a statement. Question: How is your 5 string tuned? Sounds like E,A,D,G,C. Is that correct? Second, I just discovered the "BoxKing" Power Bank. It is a lithium battery power supply made for pedalboards. And get this (why I purchased it) it has a 12V 1Amp output with multiple 9V and a 18/24 v.
I can’t seem to get a nice sound out of the PS5 at all. It’s really frustrating! I have tried with the frantabit, but I’m having no luck, could you possibly show us your settings for the PS5? Thanks ps I forgot how much I missed the VLOG until you started doing it again! Thank you!
Janek...thanks for the up date......have a good show. I know it will be hot.....Have you ever had any problems with your MXR power supplies?....mine blewup right out of the box..ron
No ...i got worried that it could start a fire if I left it plugged in . Not so bad if I'm in the room at the time but I would have to unplug it every time I take a break.....so .......ron.
I have a practicality question regarding delays. I know you love the tc Nova Repeater but since you did a toneprint for the Flashback I was wondering why you didn't swap it out since the Nova Repeater is no longer in production and the Flashback takes up less space.
Hey man, did u know..? If you took this pedal to your gig last year at Leftbank in Bristol UK, that you were in spitting distance of Tom BugBrand’s HQ! I’ve got one of his Boardchirper synths which sounds like nothing else...he’s a fucking genius... please come play Bristol again but may I suggest playing cafe Kino instead? Peace and love from Bristol England
im hearing this and im not sure this is 'bit crusher'. it sounds a lot like the sounds that i get out of my ehx freq analyzer. so maybe it's technically more of a ring mod?
Really glad you enjoy the Bugcrusher. I believe they're readily for sale from Fredric Effects in the UK: www.fredric.co.uk/ I'm also super jealous of the quantity of OC-2s on that shelf. I need more OC-2 in my life.
Hi Janek. I'm so glad you are here and willing to give your time, recollections, advice, and tips. I think I speak for the vast majority of your followers that we enjoy hearing your thought processes. It's a conversation with the framework of having a cup of coffee with you for a discussion of bass and bass related topics. Besides your accomplishments in music and bass guitar specific, you are good person - of this I have no doubt Bright moments. Patrick.
the discipline and dedication to practice that Janek has never ceases to amaze
I've never been mad I couldn't go buy your pedals. You got the skills to make music with them. Go buy all the pedals.
Yes!! Janek is back! We missed you mate!

The routing question is the biggest one I have along with the baby elephant. I love that sound!
Hej Janek, great stuff again. Playing around with pedals is great!
So nice to watch you on a regular basis. Missed the vlog
Man I'm a huge fan of your playing, hope to hear more of your new bass chops and more about your pedals settings
Woohhoo... fresh New Janek! 😅😊👍
Great video

That Fredric BugCrusher sounds exactly like the Mooer LoFiMachine!
Hi Janek, I know you mentioned this before, but as far as the hook and loops go, which do you prefer for your pedal boards: rough on the pedals, smooth on the board or vice versa? Thanks in advance! As always great content in your videos!
Aren’t those LEDs on the MXR Bricks SUPER BRIGHT!!! Good idea to put some tape over them to calm them down 👍🏻

T- Hawk thank you!
I forgot compressor.
Pedal question:
have you taken a look at the EHX superego/+/any other Freeze effect pedal? I think you could make some really nifty use out of one.

Hello Janek, my apologies if this has already discussed. What is the hole in the upper horn of the Mattisson single cut ?
Have you tried the Ottobit?

HI Janek wich bass preamp do you think is the best for his di tone ? An opinion about Gallien Krueger Plex?

That's is just funny that you mentioned Jeff Moote, I just bought an Iron Ether Xerograph from him this week.
Actually, I bought the pedal from the same thread that he had the Fredric BugCrusher.
I was seriously considering picking up that BugCrusher. When I finally decided it was gone. Turns out it went to a WAY better Home.

The octavbre rules. I use that and a Meatbox. Ive tried all of them (analog) besides the Octamizer.
aaah! brecker brothers gig preparation transcription time, huh? :D

Hi Janek, What do you think of Multi Effect Pedals? like the Boss Gt-1b or SY-300(guitar Synth)
The bit crusher is a killer sound but wouldn’t it be cool if you could control the bit rate with a rocker pedal like in a wah-wah?
I can’t seem to get a nice sound out of the PS5 at all. It’s really frustrating! I have tried with the frantabit, but I’m having no luck, could you possibly show us your settings for the PS5? Thanks ps I forgot how much I missed the VLOG until you started doing it again! Thank you!
you think you can maybe do an octave pedal shootout, and even throw in the nether octaver from tc to hear it compared to the OC-2
Mr. Silver995 pedals and effects has a cool video with Janek called sub octave wars. Have you seen it?
Mr. Silver995 I'm also curios to hear the nether octave.
More on the prep for the tour, please! :D
Janek...thanks for the up date......have a good show. I know it will be hot.....Have you ever had any problems with your MXR power supplies?....mine blewup right out of the box..ron
Shuzies did you call mxr? In my experience, they'd be more than accommodating in shipping you a new one and identifying what went wrong in the first.
No ...i got worried that it could start a fire if I left it plugged in . Not so bad if I'm in the room at the time but I would have to unplug it every time I take a break.....so .......ron.
I just got a refund and now still looking for something else...

When are u going to do a run through of all ur basses including the mattisson
what pedal do i start with?
Parasit Studio make an analog Sample Reducer pedal, which you can order both assembled or DIY. Two knobs as well: sample rate and bit depth :)
im hearing this and im not sure this is 'bit crusher'. it sounds a lot like the sounds that i get out of my ehx freq analyzer. so maybe it's technically more of a ring mod?
hii janek please make course on bass studios for complete beginners :)
Old trick from the convert-your-6-volt-VW-to-12-volt days (and the warning lights are too bright): nail polish.
What's the hole in the body above the 17th/18th frets?
MeatballCereal chambered bass
Brecker brothers gig? Sounds easy :P :D
Really glad you enjoy the Bugcrusher. I believe they're readily for sale from Fredric Effects in the UK: www.fredric.co.uk/
I'm also super jealous of the quantity of OC-2s on that shelf. I need more OC-2 in my life.
Obnoxious presentation. 4 1/2 minutes of talk before any explanation of the pedal
Nice contribution to the conversation. Like I'm literally not here. Classy.
@@janekgwizdala I'm giving you feedback.
