You're right, Colin. Core PS skills are essential to maximizing time spent in the app and keeping those skills sharp means repetition and that means regular practicing - you have to put in the time to reap the benefits that separate your work from that of the competition.

Thank you so much! I’m pushing myself hard to lean ps right now because it’s been on my bucket list for far to long. I can’t afford classes so I’m leaning from you and I like how you move slow and speak very detailed with every click you make because, I always have questions. Sometimes the battle is just loading the files in correctly 😅

Hi Colin, thank you so much for all the years of learning Photoshop. I do run into a big problem with Brushes and Libraries. Every time Photoshop does a big update, like the annual ones, I loose all my imported brushes and my libraries are gone, in addition I loose plugins. I use a MAC Computer, do you know anyway to prevent this from happening, it's such a pain to reinstall everything yearly and sometimes more than once a year. Hope you have a solution and thank you again for all you do for us!!

Good tips. One observation. As you know you have to start a selection with the marquee first then hold down opt key to get it to draw from the center. I actually had to go to another video to figure that out (you didn't mention it in your example). Very minor but without it just doesn't work.

Thank you for your generosity. I used 3 Photoshop Elements versions before taking the plunge and learning Ps. You have helped me with all your free resources. I have to work harder at composites. I gave up using a Wacom tablet though it would help me with restoration. Do you know a better tablet?

    • @photoshopcafe

I personally think the Wacom is best. Were you using it correctly and did you install its drivers?

  • @davestokes3446

Short-cuts are great, but often they have glitches - particularly after new releases. Often I find the short-cuts for flow and opacity will swap and be stuck for a week , then spontaniously flip back. Using Alt/right click to change brush size will change the active tool - another regular. Holding down Z for zooming on the fly often does not work; and the list goes on.

@@photoshopcafe Hi Colin, really getting in too your tutorials as I’m quite newb, however i know many basics but what I can’t find, which I was hoping you could help or maybe even make a short video is, firstly I do drone photography and have got so used to using my phone, I now have a new M2 pro and I am using photoshop, this is where I’m stuck, I usually do AEB x 5 and merge too hdr but, when manipulating the photo, one thing may look good and the other not so good or blown out, for love nor money I can not work out how to do layers which is maybe the way forward, so I can work on different bits then merge them together ? I am really struggling to even know what too press, my artistic skills are pretty good with colours lights and shadows etc, I’ve hunted high and low on here to see if there’s a step by step building layers to create a nice picture but have come to a dead end as the tutorials are a bit too fast, I’m at a point I feel like giving up trying which I don’t want to do, the other thing I see in a video and again I don’t know how to do it, is where the guy outlined his subject ( marching ants ) made the sky look great, so he could then put the detail back in the subject, I know this might sound like a tall order / ask, I’m really passionate about getting these basic skills so I can move on, I’m not sure if you have an email where I can message you more private or in the hope what you can offer ? Hope to hear from you Colin would be great, hope too hear many thanks.
