for some reason i thought van life would be like what i see on youtube. convert my van and head out on a long road trip. but nope. guess i will just slow down and enjoy the process. #vanlife #toyota #nature
Sister. buy some black fabric or sheets for the window covers. Place it on the side that faces outward. It makes the car look tented, and people notice it less when the outside portion is black. Other than that, you did an awesome job. I look forward to seeing how your van progress comes along! ✌️
@iamchasinglight No problem! Hopefully, you can do them all black. I love how you used the glue gun & and fabric glue. That was a different technique other than 3M adhesive. Thanks for sharing.
@@iamchasinglight Blackout curtains at Walmart. I found mine for $10. Sometimes you can find them in thrift stores as well. Realistically though, when you have them up at night, it probably won't matter. If you're keeping the 4 a.m. to noon gig though, you're going to want to sleep during the day at some point and it will matter. If you haven't already gotten more cardboard, you can use poster board instead. It comes in black, white, and many other colors. It's also much easier to manipulate into your windows (and to cut).
great job starting out your journey, i’m hoping to purchase a van and outfit it myself to be able to travel comfortably and maybe document my travels just have to learn how to do the whole editing thing too
Another way to do your window coverings is by placing your cardboard on the outside of the window it's easier to get a perfect fit.then just trim when you place them on the inside.just tip for next time.which there will be one😉😃
@@iamchasinglight The back windows on minivans are the worst. Good luck! If you can borrow a pair of additional hands, it will help. If not, use tape on one side, even just temporarily, get the other side right, move over and get the other side right. Check that nothing moved out where it should have been. You will lose a bunch when you trim the inside, but it's also much easier to manipulate than a whole big piece of whatever material you use.
Love to see people gaining freedom and independence! Yeah a lot of these van lifers have advanced building skills or paid a company to build out their van
@@iamchasinglight that's just rich people showing off. Their friends wouldn't understand if they just threw a sleeping bag on the floor of a van and moved in. Drop $100K or more, then they "get it."
See, this is what I like👍! Just hanging out with you and your dog, hearing real sounds of feet on gravel, some birds in the trees. Nice and peaceful. If it had started with all kinds of music, music while you were talking, music while your dog played fetch, then finishing it off with a drone view overhead accompanied by more music, I wouldn't have known because I would have been out the first note 🎶. I'm so over it. I watch to unwind, maybe find something that turns the corners of my mouth up for a bit. Not to be entertained by the piano and banjo trees in the middle of a tranquil forest. And in that I have a choice.
I bought the rubber mats from Lowes that you put down on floors in gyms and garages. Looks like puzzle pieces. $27.00 about a 6 foot square when connected. You can cut them for the windows
I tried those foer a van I had they fit nice and tight but in the end it was a fail, next morning they fell out of the window. My windows were slanted quite a bit I suppose that is why
I'm doing a no-build on my 2000 caravan, I was able to find a 6x8 blue/gray rug at Home Depot for $25 that match my interior perfectly, so when I cut it to shape it made the van look like it had been "factory" upholstered, lol. Keep it going and best of luck to you!!!
Im in the process of becoming a vl. But yes, you should always put the black on the outside of the window covers for a stealthier look. Try an 8 by 10 rug from like Walmart or target, you seem tall. Can you sleep on the seat in the back?
I just became a VL last month, and let me tell you, I'm taking my time fixing up my ride/home. But I agree with you on enjoying the process. Can't wait to see the final result!! #memaonthemove 🚐

I live in my van in California, too. Best decision ever ❤
The floor covering is a great idea. I see them all the time and I will be grabbing some. Thanks for sharing.
That water looked so fresh I don’t blame him 😅

So smart. I was just trying to figure out some flooring
I’m a first time viewer; everything is looking good. I agree with the person that said the black window covers. Be safe.
thank you.. appreciate that. I did take this advice and grab black fabric for the coverings moving forward!
Window guards from weather tech are amazing, they let air in & guard the opening of your window.❤
ahh have been wondering where to find those... thank you!

They are already black and thick
that is a great idea... I will keep this in mind!

Oh, those sometimes go on sale every couple of months at Big5 Sports.
The rug on the floor is perfect. I can tell you have a good eye for aesthetics.

no way too tall... have a different idea for sleeping!
Black part goes on the outside
You should put some duct tape on all of the parts where you cut or it will unravel.👍
Sorry, I'm talking about the Mat. You placed on the floor that material will unravel.
agreed. great idea thank you!
Why would you let your dog run so far from you. You out there by yourself.
