ORIGINAL INFO: More like “a naked woman without a name” versus ED-209, but hey, it IS only the first issue.
RUMINATIONS: I still haven’t seen Robocop 2, sadly. I recall seeing BITS of Robocop 3 as a kid, but don’t recall the full movie. From what I’ve heard, the rest of the issues of Robocop vs. the Terminator just go straight into insanity and confirm that in this reality, Robocop’s technology IS responsible for the eventual creation of Skynet and their Terminators, so that’s a big whoopsie. I probably will be getting back to the series soon enough since, at the time of this writing, I’m down to only one more issue of All-Star Batman and Robin to review. Not much else to say about the review - pretty much speaks for itself.

An alternate Tag line could be. "One upholds the Law. The other is The Law."

The Terminator has so many advantages that it isn't even a fair fight. It would be like Spiderman trying to fight Apocalypse or Thanos.
The terminator units are immune to ballistic weapons. They can only be damaged by the lasers as seen in T2. Robocop's machine pistol isn't nearly enough to even chip the T-800s. Robocop himself is immune to low calibre weapons, but that's about as far as his defence goes. Something like a
.45 calibre firearm or a BMG .50 would chew up Robocop's armour.
There's also the red tape. Robocop is bound by his directives where Skynet isn't. The T-800s can simply pose as a human, hack into Robocop's software while he is undergoing maintenance and disable him that way. Robocop can't do anything about it because the T-800s just have to obey the law until he is vulnerable. In fact there are probably countless ways Skynet can turn Robocop's own morality against him.
The idea of Robocop creating Skynet isn't that implausible. One way that might happen is that OCP sees how successful the Robocop program went which would galvanize a project leading up to Skynet. Another way that might happen is if Alex Murphey himself creates Skynet to minimize the impact of corruption (like Dick Jones or Clarence Boddiker).

I was thinking more along the lines of they started to build Skynet but couldn't get the learning or good/evil protocols to work so they copied the coding from Murphy's cybernetic brain parts. But since one of Murphy's directives is "Protect the innocent", Skynet interpreted that as no one being innocent after it used the internet to find everyone's closet skeletons.
That or, you know, _four_ Alvin and the Chipmunks movies now. Why are people still paying money to go see them? Do parents just not know how to tell their kids, "No, that stuff is garbage for your brain" anymore?
It's explained next issue. He doesn't so much create it as accidentally give it sentience. Oops.
Ah but would they want to defeat him knowing what they do...defeating him could chnage time enough that they dont exist....they just want the woman who is threatening him

In-universe, either Ellen Murphy just moved out of the old house or moved back to Detroit sometime before the events of RoboCop 2 as part of the opening of that movie features her and has a scene of Murphy driving by her house to see her and their son.
Out-of-universe, even within the writing stage of 2, Miller probably overlooked it or forgot, which is possibly, given another scene in the first movie establishes Sgt. Reed's first name as John and a scene in the second has Murphy call him "Warren".
The part with the birds singing "My Humps" still makes me laugh, years after first watching this review.
It's honestly kind of cool seeing a more positive one of these Miller Time episodes. I'm not saying I don't get or enjoy the negative ones. Frank Miller's work has gotten awful and the hate for him at this point is deserved. Seeing Holy Terror, DKSA and ASBAR get ripped a new one is great. However, I think by showing his work when it was good, it kind of illustrates how disappointing and awful his later stuff really was in comparison.
Ya know, Linkara has complained about clothes and dead things not going through the wormholes that they use in Terminator for time travel, before, but it actually makes sense. Living tissue generates a bioelectric field which essentially acts like a "ticket" to let you go through the wormhole. It's the same principle as those table saws which shut off automatically if anything organic is detected getting near the blade, or touch screen phones detecting our fingers on them because we cause a unique change in the capacitance. Also, inorganic things aren't destroyed, just left behind.
The Robocop vs. Terminator game for the SEGA Genesis is still one of the best button mashers ever created.
The web video series "Death Battle" once pitted Robocop and the Terminator against each other, "Celebrity Death Match" style.

Hey Linkara did you know that Robocop 2 the film was written by Frank Miller whgo cameos in the film as the chemist who makes the drug Nuke. He also wrote the 3rd film and the Executive Metteling drove him out of film-making the Avatar Comics run was overseen by Miller based on his screenplays and the later comics take place based on his script's timeline not the films.

I like this mini-series a lot. Miller's over-the-top cynical satire works well because it's Robocop. The problem with Miller is he almost universally applies this same level of satire to everything else he works on regardless of whether or not the tone makes sense. I honestly would rather have seen this as a movie than Miller's own Robocop 2.

Much as I love Terminator vs Robocop, even as a kid I knew it really can't happen. Robocop takes place in 2028...a year after Kyle Reese was originally sent to the past after the first Terminator. Yeah there's time parodoxes all over the Terminator continuity but it still bugs me.
Sorry Miller, but Death Battle already gave a definitive answer to this crossover battle.

I actually kinda like that you never learned the woman's name. It works to symbolically show that this woman could literally be anyone. A person that has become faceless from the chaos of war.
Robocop Vs. The Terminator actually got a video game for systems like the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis.
See, you might think of the lack of a name as being a problem, but it *is* her name. Frank Miller, the genius that he is, knows that in the future, people will be identified solely by assprint.
You do *not* want to know how people greet one another.

One critique I disagree with Lewis on was what he wrote in the end credits. That you "can't tease something as awesome as Robocop vs the Terminator".
...Except of course you can. That's kind of the point of the first issue. There needs to be some kind of set up to get the characters to meet. Plus, because it's such an iconic team up, it's important to raise the stakes and BUILD suspense.

As much as I love both of these franchises, I was more than a bit cautious when I saw Frank's name attached to this. The first issue is not that bad... but I feel it's owed a review of the full series, since, in my opinion, it gets worse the farther along the series goes.
Okay so in the next tab in my browser I have the tvtropes page Horrible/ComicBooks and so far it seems most of the stories talked about there are stories Linkara has reviewed and several mention Linkara's reaction to them.
I came back to this old episode just to see Robocop throw that guy out the window again.
Hey Linkara, just in case you haven't done research at this point (I don't know, as I don't really follow your blogs or twitter, sorry), Robocop and Terminator are actually canonically connected. This comic is technically, to a certain degree, canon. Or was supposed to be, at least.
On short notice, I can't verify this, but I remember it being said in a documentary or article about this comic. I don't remember exactly, it's been years.
This is more fan speculation than actual canon.
There was a death battle between them too.

The only thing the reboot actually did better than the original: build a Robocop designed with fleeing criminals in mind.
I mean, everything else was total pig swill, but at least they got _that_ right.
I don't want to spoil it, but he overcomes that weakness later in the series.

You know, this comic starts off with the woman explaining that a human merged their consciousness with Skynet to start the robot uprising, but even though the monitor showed Alex Murphy as the cause, aside from the future starting to change after she shot Robocop, there is no real evidence that he really was the cause.
What if the twist was that the woman was the one who merged with Skynet and Robocop was trying to prevent the uprising. And the future altering was done by his actions and not the woman’s actions? I’m just saying, that’d be a clever twist.

I didn't know Arnold Schwarzenegger was in a Robocop film.
He wasn't. Though, he WAS considered for the role. The problem, he was TOO muscular. Another candidate, Michael Ironside. And thus, Peter Weller was chosen.
I was also questioning why you were reviewing this, but you gave it a fair review. I agree with the flaws you pointed out, but it's still enjoyable

I found the fact the machines won in this comic weird… considering they lost in the lore of the two movies and Terminator: Resistance.

This series is pretty damn good and its my favorites of Frank Miller's work. From before he went insane! And there were SGEN and SNES games adapted from it as well. The SNES game follows the plot of the comic series while the SGEN game does it's own thing. I prefer the SGEN version!

Problem with skynet as a narrator. Kind of tips the hat on the missions success. Other than that its a natural matchup. Robot in the body of a man vs a man in the body of a robot. One from a hellish violent wasteland. The other from the future.
It actually makes me appreciate t3 even more. The idea that skynet was a building sized super computer. Well it just seems 1950ish. The suggestion no human was able to destroy it seems unrealistic. I know i know. But i try to find an in universe answer for those kind of questions. Turning it into software. Makes it seem more plausible imo.
Curious to know what happened in this after Robo appearing in MK11 :P
The bit with the birds is definitely overwritten, but good god, will I take Miller overwriting, over Miller just repeating sentence fragments over and over as if repetition will somehow make them mean something.
Japanese comics and cartoons: make guns realistic.

I don't get how people don't like this comic. I personally liked reading Robocop Vs. Terminator, and enjoyed it.

the terminator and robocop are not equally matched. terminators were designed for mass production. robocop is much more powerful. however terminators cost less which means an equal fight would be 20 terminators vs 1 robocop. like a german tiger tank vs a us sherman
I get it. A mix of skin and steel, a single motivation, awesome weapons. Robocop was the first terminator. Think about it, over time as the technology used to save him became more widespread, and as technology advanced, it failed. Skynet could have been used to keep the "robocops" in check, and well. You know the rest
