The Devils Rain jar reminds me of the Satan jar/artifact thingy in "They Live". The portal in the basement that Satan is suppose to come through. John Carpenter must of really liked this movie If you think about it "They Live" has a few plot similarities.

Apart from other stuff, Robert Fuest, who started out as a production designer, also did direct a few episodes of the british The Avengers TV series and the great movie And Soon The Darkness (the original from 1970, of course).
After doing the film, Ernest Borgnine was fucking terrified of his role in the film and converted to Christianity soon after. He never wanted to play in another horror movie role ever again. Not to mention that Anton LaVey creeped him out.

The hell part of the Garden Of Earthly delights triptych is the part that freaks everyone out. (Myself included.) I remember in the years before cable television watching the Devil's Rain when it would come on as a Saturday Night Midnight Movie on our local affiliate to fill time after the network programming had signed off... This movie is another reason why I think The Poseidon Adventure star Earnest Borgenine and Big Bad Mama star William Shatner are not fully appreciated for their tremendous acting ability and range of characterization. Like you, Iwonder if Nick Castle took his inspiration to strangely tilt his head (while looking at his handiwork after killing John Michael Graham) from that very scene you showcased in Devil's Rain. It's uncanny how similar the movements are! The end scene scared the hell out of me as a kid, so as a Satanic film, it failed, but as a Christian movie it was unintentionally successful.

Aton Levey was perfect as the technical advisor. We got a lot of the magical rituals and incantations of the Satanic Bible and the enochian keys.

This movie is another reason why I think The Poseidon Adventure star Earnest Borgenine and Big Bad Mama star William Shatner are not fully appreciated for their tremendous acting ability and range of characterization.
Like you, Iwonder if Nick Castle took his inspiration to strangely tilt his head (while looking at his handiwork after killing John Michael Graham) from that very scene you showcased in Devil's Rain. It's uncanny how similar the movements are!
The end scene scared the hell out of me as a kid, so as a Satanic film, it failed, but as a Christian movie it was unintentionally successful.
