Nice video. I had Area Diesel Services rebuild my injection pump and when I put it back on it had some white smoke, more than it did before. It started immediately, but was showing that it was running rich. The technician that rebuilt it said he added a little more fuel to make it start easier, so I thought that could be the issue. When I called them about the extra smoke, he had determined that the pump may just be barely out of time and to adjust it (like you did) with the three bolts/nuts. I asked him if I should do this while it is running and his response was " If you want to buy a $2,000.00 rotor that will snap a lot of the times by doing it that way.". He did not say it in a condoning way, but stressed the importance of doing that adjustment while the engine if OFF. I noticed/heard you mention doing that very adjustment while the engine was running, and that it brought itself into the correct timing, I did cringe some, as the rotors/heads for these pumps are getting extremely hard to find, therefore raising the price exponentially. Not sure if you knew the dangers of that, I certainly did not, but if not, hope it helps with any future projects.

well I'm no professional just a redneck so he is probably correct and i would recommend you take his advise over mine. however i have adjusted two separate pumps with the engines running and not had any trouble, but take that with a grain of salt.
