Awesome video, mate. I've seen lots of videos of guys finishing guitars on TH-cam, but I've not yet seen one like this, with such a thorough explanation about the typical process of doing wet sanding and the pitfalls that one might encounter starting out.
I've just subscribed. I've been playing guitar for 25 years now, and for a while I've been dreaming about building my own instrument. Just doing some fret dressing or replacing a pickup at weekend in my spare time outside of work, while listening to a podcast has been one of the most enjoyable things for me.
I'm watching your videos from Vilnius, Lithuania, where I now live. (I'm a British expat) just to let you know that you have a viewer at the other side of the world. Best wishes from across the pond.

@@letsbuildaguitar9230 It's another thing that I thought I'd mention, it was good that you left the mistakes that you made in the video, this is something that helps a lot as well.

@@jackdoe8483 Thanks...that's my hope...no reason to not be real...well other than it's a little embarrassing at time, but oh well!

It's always a fight to get it flat enough to shine like glass and not burn through. I gotten too where I hate the idea of finishing. Like R.L. Lynch I have thought about going oil/wax only but I love a gloss finish on guitars. Even all natural wood looks amazing through high gloss. I've just finished a very small spray both and purchased automotive products, buffer, pads and compound for the final buff out. Plus I'm using 2K Tamco clear. No rattle cans. I'm not sure I could ever get enough build with rattle cans.

Yeah with the rattle can I do about 21 coats. I’m just so limited with having a good place to use a compressor with enough ventilation. I do it on occasion using my garage but due to temps in Minnesota and the need to use my garage for other things….it just doesn’t work well.

I started using hard wax finishes and stopped painting. It's an awesome finish and faster with less stress out. I do not miss all the steps it takes to paint and clear with sanding, sanding, and MORE sanding,, and did I mention sanding? haha I love the work on that guitar it's awesome.

What hard wax are you using?
