Inversely related intervals, and a good example of both directions at once musically, as expresed in the title of the recent John Coltrane release expose' on Impulse Records from the RVG Studio vaults; a quite piquant and tangy effect to say the least.😊
More on the interval theory you mention? Mysterious, dense music, with the band unanimous. Not outgoing, as to 'pulling in the audience', but the live energy would have made up for that. It's a through-composed piece in effect, with almost no sense of internal chorus units, and has an unusual impact - when it's over, you realize you've really heard something!
So, so good. This is my favorite combo of the era. Starting with Harold Land's album The Peace-Maker, they put out an incredible body of work. This is the first video I've seen. It made my day. Thanks! I would love to see more.
This draws a corrolary that harks back to the seminal, ground-breaking Andrew Hill date 'Andrew' on Blue Note Records, amazingly recorded in 1964; a full 7 years before this performance date. The main takeaway is the instrumentation configuration. This is a logical next step, as if it is a huge homage and remembrance, albeit venue and contextually different.
What a band---Hal Galper-Piano, Harold Land-Tenor Sax, Reggie Johnson-Bass, Joe Chambers-Drums and BH on Vibes....GOLD!!
Thanks ..
For this time (71) and a even before, Joe Chambers turned the tide of modern drumming.
Wow, what a gem.
Hal Galper, some monster playing there. ❤ The whole band is smokin’.
" Avis " - Bobby Hutcherson ...thank you + would love to hear more - ☮️ ...
great group , Joe Chambers , Hutcherson and of course Land sounds good , good listening
Epic band, incredible music. Why is it not more well known? (And where are the rest of the videos of this quintet!?!?) Thanks for sharing!

REGGIE JOHNSON, BASS.
Break it down now
Hal Galper, piano?
Yes
If the pianist was Stanley Cowell, the band sound would be better.
Oh, okay😂
Super video Bob a real treasure to view.
The pairing of Land and hutcherson is always great.
such a great group, and incredible to see footage of joe chambers playing live and in colour. one of my favourite drummers!
Priceless footage., especially of one of Blue Note's (records') 'house' drummers during its avant gade period of the mid 60s, the great Joe Chambers!
Here's Reggie Johnson's sole album as a leader, from 1984: th-cam.com/video/Wh-dckiV_Xs/w-d-xo.html
