I don’t think he’s underrated he’s just not as well-known. I’ve never read review where a critic was not impressed by him or even more importantly I’ve never heard anyone say that at. For whatever reason he was just not as well-known but he certainly was not underrated . It’s an insult to put his name with that term.
You’re right. What a wonderful legacy these giants of jazz have left for us. How can anyone listen to the trash called music today when a masterpiece like this is just waiting to be heard?
We see that Hutch and Curtis Fuller were there, too! Bobby shows his appreciation for Harold, who had been a longtime partner of his, there at the end. What a gig!
Harold Land has been one of my heros since I was 15. I am 78 and a tenor player still.
People throw the word 'underrated' around a lot but Land, to me, is the most underrated musician in all of jazz music. Literally unbelievable talent.
Exactly.
Such lungs!

I feel the pain man ! However I count myself blessed to have been able to hear & see him many times with Gerald Wilson & others .
@@jazzyjones6375 I agree. But I think his West Coast roots just kept him from big NYC clubs and contracts.
Cedar, Buster, and Our Man Higgins. Now that's a rhythm section.

@@sunnyinsalalah Actually the name jass (zz)came from ignorant europeans who didn't un6the context or the spirit of "the music" Lol
This is beyond brilliant
Really beyond!
Harold Land really had his own unique sound ...
That Berg mouthpiece set up... he had was really nice...
This is an absolute MAGIC!
Harold always has his own tenor taste sound!
What a nice tone he had.
Nice video!..The great harold land. Up there with dexter, shorter, mobley, coleman, etc!!
Absolutely agree with you 100%
Harold Land makes every record, importantly those where is he is not the leader, 10x better. The work he did with Bobby H is unreal.
I'm New to Mr. Land . However, His Improvisational Skills are Up There With The Masters ! Joe Henderson/Coltrane .
Now run to Clifford Brown-Max Roach, please
Your statement is quite a reality even amongst his peers.
Check out Mr. Land as a member of the Clifford Brown-Max Roach Quintet . A very popular group of the 50's .

2 thumbs down apparently by two soulless creatures.
They did a good job amplifying that cheap piano. It sounds very tinny but at least it's in tune.
Cedar walton does a great job, overcoming a out of tune piano!!
