Damn guys Samsung really went above and beyond with the S6 this year! I am pretty shocked with all the brutal tests completed, and this thing survives!
mayiandjay I'm upgrading from my iPhone 5s and buying the Galaxy S6 edge. The Galaxy S6 edge is sexy and built of attractive and tough glass. I prefer glass over aluminum. Glass is more premium than aluminum.
Dropped my s6 edge in a puddle yesterday. It was in for about 25-30 seconds...however long it took me to realize I dropped it and find it in the dark. Screen was working and turning on. It lit up when I pressed the home button. Made my friend Google what to do to increase my chances of saving it. So I powered it off. Dried it more. Put it in. fluffy towel to dry for 15-20 minutes. It was already on low battery when I dropped it. So I tried charging it...and first it wouldn't charge... changed the charger and tried again. It was being funny for a while but eventually charged. Today it is charging completely normal and nothing else is out of the ordinary.
the best thing to do is put your phone in an air tight bag and fill it with uncooked rice and even stick in those wee white packets you get in the box of new shoes and electric products but row rice will still do the job and basically sick the moisture out your phone. seal the bag and keep someplace warm for 3 days, the longer the better
I have to give props to Samsung for this almost a half an hour of being in water and this is so stunning in so many ways im not usually a big fan of Samsung phones but this is incredible
David Why does it matter? It says 'secretly' in the title. You can water test things that aren't waterproof. Not a smart thing for home, but perfectly fine for a youtuber making ad revenue. The 'why' was because it's a waterproof test video and there's no point in giving it a week to try anything when you're /making a video about water resistance ability/. Lack of reading all around.

+nderitos the point that it was water proof is why you took it to the river and took it swimming if it wasnt water proof you would have left it in a bag or something. it would have saved the trouble of someone finding it.
i just had my s6 edge for 3 years now and actually i still wont try it bc i love this phone😂 it hasnt decided it...and my new s10 is too expensive to let it die😂
YesManQ8 best way to dry a Phone is put it in rice and put it on a heat source. this way the water inside the Phone will vaporate and the hot moisty air comes out of the openings more easy. so make sure the Phone is hot (not too hot!!) and that it is completely in rice. Open as many ports as possible to speed up the process. My Z3 worked again within an hour.
the act of water didn't do anything, the act of water being on the charger port when he plugged in the charger created a short circuit and that's why the internals began messing up, after water, you would normally put phone in rice for a week, or I would, then charge it and it'd be fine, but if it has one drop in the wrong spot game over circuits
Upgraded from the LG Lucid I've had for three years to the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge. Didn't think I'd like it at first but after I got all my old ringtones back, customized it with my own wallpaper and tab layout, I kinda like it alot now. The only thing I miss is the bubbles charging wallpaper and animated weather app, those were really cool on the Lucid. I need to get used to the thin bare phone now since my old one had an otterbox on it that made it really chunky in comparison. My daughter has the Galaxy S5 and hers is waterproof. Good to know the S6 Edge is at least water resistant, although I'm not too rough with my phones. I've never had a cracked screen or dropped mine in water.
clsman89 all smart phones are made in asia, including iphone. Apple just orchestrates supply chain, and all components are made by asian android manufacturers like Samsung LG etc, with final assembly done by Foxconn, which is a chinese company.
Just got my new Samsung Edge 6 last week. Trying to let the lid down on the toilet, the phone fell from my hands. Ins seconds I retrieved the phone. Dried it off and shook it till I saw no more water come from the device. Amazingly, the phone took a charge immediately following and only powered off as a recycle shortly after the charge. I am glad this thing will stand a few seconds of accidental water exposure. Thanks for sharing video too.
If you hear this video in both ears your headphones are a piece of shit. Good headphones have 3d sound, which in this video the guy recording was right to the mic that's why it only sounds in right ear.
Why would you charge it straight away... The most stupid thing to do with a phone that's been in water and terminated. It could very likely have been fine if you just waited.
Yeah even with the s7/edge you still need to wait about 30 minutes to 1 hour before charging it after it's been in water. Otherwise the water will mess up with the electricity and either damage the charging port or the micro usb, or if you did it by accident/didnt know you may be lucky enough for both to work
At 2:20 it can't be water proof because that would mean it could guaranteed servive to a stated depth but water-resistant means it can hold out the water for a certain time
It lost like 40% of its battery in 20 min. Probably what caused the burn because the only way it loses that much juice is if the battery is being shorted out
Dude.. the next time you wana throw a nice phone like that in water.. please think of me and how i may never be the owner of a nice pone like that.. lols
Yeah I agree. I used to have the Note 4. It was a far better phone. I liked taking a quick custom screenshot with the stylus. On this stupid phone you have to download an app full of ads to take a screenshot. Also, The SNote app on the Note was amazing for writing out notes. Now I cant get any of those notes back that I had written on my old phone because the built-in SNote app documents are not compatible with the Edge. The edge screen is completely pointless as far as accessibility goes. The only advantage of the shitty edge screen is you end up dropping the phone on the ground more because its harder to hold onto.
You should have used the traditional vacuum cleaner and rice for 72 hours, to then see if it all works. I bet it would have. I found a bag of rice at the parade. I looked in it, and it was an iPhone 4S that got dropped. I powered it on and it wasn't working. I took it apart, dried it out, put it in rice for 48 hours and the girl (who was sitting in front of me at the parade!!!) who it belonged to (yes, I shipped it back to her) still has it to this day.
I recently dropped my S6 phone accidentally ~2 meters deep into the pool for a minute or less. Turned it off, put it in rice for the next two days, and it works! The front touch buttons sometimes don't respond as they should, but it's just a matter of touching again. No big deal. This phone's been really good to me.
My girlfriend dropped her S6 Edge in a sink a few weeks ago. In less than two seconds, the phone shorted out. 264 British Pounds and three weeks later, she has her phone back. Please be careful if you have an S6 Edge. Why this one worked this long in water is astonishing. It must truly be a unique phone that was tested in this video.
I accidently dropped mine in the toilet yesterday, but grabbed it immediately. It seemed like it died. I dried it off with a towel, then let it air dry overnight and most of today before I plugged it up to charge. It's CHARGING! I hope it makes a full recovery! That's insane that he had it in water for over 20 minutes for the test and it still worked (somewhat.)
I had my old samsung s6 phone by my dish rack ... I came back it must have been there for a few hours... now it's acting up... hopefully it recovers on its own
Most phones have a 50 50 chance of surviving a drop in water. I've always set a water logged in front of a small fan over night and it has always came back on. You're wasting your time with rice as rice don't take water out from the inside of a phone.
Hello TechSmartt, I saw this video and I also have a samsung galaxy s6 edge verizon and it fell in water but when i got it back and try to power it on it didnt work. What are your thoughts? If I can return it back to the company or what should I do for it to work?
They test what the phones can survive and what they can't. Actually it's not a waste, you'll find out whether you can do something with it like this, or not.
Just because they were tested by Samsung doesn't mean everyone will believe what they're saying is true. That's why Samsung sponsor channels like these so that people believe what Samsung is saying and it's also because free advertisement.
Rodolfo Rausseo It's a contracted unit for testing from Samsung, there is nothing wrong with harming the phone, in fact, if he doesn't, he is breaching the contract and will get in trouble from Samsung.
Rodolfo Rausseo The Samsung Galaxy S6 is the best designed and most technologically advanced smartphone on the market. It makes the iPhone 6 look like an ugly, stone-age tool.
I was on a boat ride yesterday and got soaked, so the timing on when your phone went out was about the same time i was out on the boat. I didn't charge my 6 Edge because i thought it was a for sure destroyed, but after watching this video, i'm going to try and charge it when i get home from work! #stayingOptimistic lol.
As a safety measure, DO NOT plug in any electronic device into an electrical outlet knowing it is wet and/or has water inside of it. Your best bet is to remove the battery immediately and unplug the device. Water and electricity do not mix. Also you increase the chance of shorting out some of the electronic components inside of it. Also, I've used the rice trick about 3 times over the years and it has worked fine for me. I left the phone in for a minimum of 24 hours though. Once for my own phone and twice for other's phones.
I would be afraid to do this. 😕 I currently have an s4 Active, and I don't even trust this stupid thing in water! 😂 I wipe it off really quick with a damp cloth, but I won't drop it in water...
i had a xperia z before my s6 and even those sometimes die in water. i took it to the shower once when it was brand new as i had insurance but i did never try aggain :"D. these things are too expensive to drop into water to see if theyre failing.
My problem is with consistency of the stopwatch in the immersed phone and time stamp on the video; time on the phones' stopwatch reads 15:13:43 and and on the video it reads 5:27:__??? Is this just an advert of actually real???
Did you drop it in a pool? or the sea? chemicals and salt will kill the phone, as well as the pressure. Also, because your experience differs it isn't automatically fake.
Lorenzo Loconsole it isn't. A fake would be less capable of surviving underwater. Isn't it obvious? Plus this guy doesn't use fakes for his videos. You were just unlucky
Lies, i have an 6s edge i droop it in water to test camera for 10 sec and i lost the speakers and it wont charge anymore, and the camera became a 1MP shooter....
hey @TechSmartt could you please do a water test on the ZTE Grand X Max Plus? I can not find one and would really like to know how it holds up in water since I will be taking it to a waterpark in a few weeks, so could you?
Most of the time, people do damage to their phones by charging the phone far too soon or NOT turning it off quick enough. Basically, if you are unfortunate to drop your phone in water, the best thing you should do is - power the phone off immediately as to not damage & zap out the circuit board, headphone jack or speakers. What you need to be now - is calm and have a lot of patience if you do not want to kill it off permanently. The process will take ruffly two days to FULLY dry the phone out. 1# try & shake out as much water as you can. 2# leave your phone standing (in a warm place) over night, so the excess water can drip out through the bottom port holes - remembering to keep the water away from the circuitry which is at the top end of the phone. 3# with a moving hairdryer (at a low heat) try & dry the phone from the all angles for as long as your arm falls off. 4#, remember, water & circuit boards do not mix, so remember to be patient & don't turn the phone on until you are certain it is TOTALLY dry - with a minimum wait of about 36 hours if possible. Remember guys, this is just a few useful tips, this isn't a guarantee & you do this at your own risk. GOOD LUCK!
Hey k",, yeah it does not take a genius to see how awesome this was,., 25mins., is pretty long.. for a push in the pool, or a jump in the pool., even a drop in a reachable spot of water.. where the bottom can be accessed.. so, i noticed that the phone may just be running it's only restoration or boot.. I really like it,., thanks
I dropped my S6 and then took it out right away and it shut off less than 2 mins.. so I submerged it into rice overnight and then turned it on this morning. It was kinda working but it was messing up. It's SO stupid how they got rid of Waterproof on the S6.. it doesn't make any sense because the S5 was waterproof too, wtf? Grr, but at least I have a 2 year warranty and might get another S6, or pay a little extra and get the S7. I'm so over it.
hell even the s3 and s4 do well in full submerge in water.... not like the s5 though at least the battery can be removed... honestly all you would need to do with this one is let it dry/don't use it for a day and you'll likely restore it... 21 mins for a non certified waterproof phone is really good.
You showed that it can at the very least get splashed real good with water and not break. If it gets dropped in the toilet and taken right out, it will be fine also. If you took it apart and used a blow dryer on it, it probably would have fixed it.
I feel like people complaining about dropping their phones in toilets, need to understand you DROPPED it into the water, there was an impact and probably let some water inside, you didnt set it in there. Anyways, cool that this test lasted, hope my edge + will work like a champion for the next few years
I think that they might be some what secretly waterproof because I have accidentally dropped my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ in snow up to my shins twice which the phone was completely submerged and I had to fish for it and it still works completely fine.
My Galaxy S5 fell off my car roof at around 60 mph on the motorway and still worked! until about 30 mins after the battery must have died I guess. But Wow! Galaxy S6 is insane under water. Oh by the way I didn't get S5 back after taking first slip road back to look for it. Gutted to say the least.
I have this phone...and I recently dropped it in water, completely submerged for maybe 30sec. It was working fine for at least 3hrs...until I plugged it in to charge. My screen went black and started flashing a blue light. after that my screen didn't come back!! everything still works, calls, texts, emails still coming in and the camera still takes pics even though i cant see anything on the screen. I was very hopeful after seeing this video that my phone would be ok, but unfortunately it wasn't. JFYI in case you are looking for additional information.
Put it in rice. All the Asians will come overnight and fix it.
welcome to 2015!
LOL I love this joke!
Cooked or raw?
Unboxings13 What is the point of this joke?

Too bad it's ugly, the ui is shit and Samsung will brick it in a year by bullshit software updates
If your phone gets wet put it in rice, at night the rice will attract Asians who will fix it for you.
cerbero dell'Ade lol
cerbero dell'Ade 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂👌👌👌👌👌👌👌👌
I've tried it and it works.
cerbero dell'Ade I caught those Asians in my driveway
can confirm, have eaten lots of rice thanks to people

hows the camera and speakers
you can't charge after phone goes in water, have to wait til charge port is dry
why the heck would you connect the phone into the charger right away? you supposed to let it dry first
so you have 20 min. to pick it up from the toilet pretty nice
Lol
wont it smelly for 20mins under toilet....?
:D Finally a phone for me!
Jonathan Taylor hahahahah
If you really want to put a phone into toilet, why don't you get a real water-proof phone
I have to give props to Samsung for this almost a half an hour of being in water and this is so stunning in so many ways im not usually a big fan of Samsung phones but this is incredible
Should have gave it a week to dry before attempting anything but what ever.
why ?
Why? because there's still water inside that interfere with the hardware.
TrueRay17 Then it wouldn't be much of a waterproof test.
sanderz666 Why would it be waterproof if it doesn't say anywhere that it is ip67 certified.

Don't care about the streamlined body or better design quality, the s5 saved me 600$.
They need to waterproof the stock s6, its a real selling point for me.
+nderitos Its kinda hard to make a realy good looking phone that is still waterproof...
+jeromevincent no its not all tou do is put a seal where the charger goes and seal the back thats it and you can literaly do that to any phone
+jeromevincent Meet the Xperia's
+nderitos the point that it was water proof is why you took it to the river and took it swimming if it wasnt water proof you would have left it in a bag or something. it would have saved the trouble of someone finding it.

i just had my s6 edge for 3 years now and actually i still wont try it bc i love this phone😂 it hasnt decided it...and my new s10 is too expensive to let it die😂
Nope
Amazing that it lasted in 25 minutes. It shows it is well built and the iPhone 6 only lasted about a minute or more and died.
And he was moving it around in the water
Look at the battery guys.... Its fcked up.
***** Yeah the iPhone 6 has inferior build quality
Knu Tjarks No it's not.
***** I'm upgrading my iPhone 5s to the Galaxy S6 edge. The Galaxy S6/S6 edge is made out of glass which is more premium than aluminum.
you don't "shake" the water out, Keaton
because that would only make the water get deeper inside the phone
and OMG you're watching Once Upon A Time too? lol

S7 edge is a piece of shit like Note 7...

+Monem Alkhalaf it can explode btw so ill choose rather s6 edge
+Pikachu they don't explode anymore, all of the exploding ones have been collected and are not being sold anymore.

Tony Cash Rice don't work period as it's a complete myth. Anti moisture beads with plenty of air flow is the only efective solution.
Darrell Flowers Lol!
Air flow, if the air is too cold, will freeze the circuits together. Then you got a bigger mess. Oh yeah, rice works!!
This is real, I know because I am a S6
no you are a dog
o-o
So how did you feel when Samsung replaced you with an s7? Are you bought a lot still?
+kyle te lmfao
How's your battery going
who is watching on an s6 underwater
Definately me
Me
i watched full video
Me
people comments about their phone "dying" after dropping in the water for 3sec but im here swimming with my xperia for hours. lol
that beat is nice..Sounds like something A Tribe Called Quest would rap off
Kids in africa could have drunk that water! LOL
this is stupid I tried and guess what...my arrow button (back button)don't work
😎👎
stopped watching @ about 15min & 49s that's proof enough for me. Stephen Corbally Dublin Ireland. Yeah!!🤗
I love the bubbles that escape at 7:05 on the video!
Hello TechSmartt, I saw this video and I also have a samsung galaxy s6 edge verizon and it fell in water but when i got it back and try to power it on it didnt work. What are your thoughts? If I can return it back to the company or what should I do for it to work?
Each time the phone comes into contact with water, the battery becomes weaker
i hate channels like this it's such a waste of good phones
and I , too!
They test what the phones can survive and what they can't. Actually it's not a waste, you'll find out whether you can do something with it like this, or not.
It is a waste because these tests were made by Samsung .
Just because they were tested by Samsung doesn't mean everyone will believe what they're saying is true. That's why Samsung sponsor channels like these so that people believe what Samsung is saying and it's also because free advertisement.
+Wies Berendsen (de UP2D8 Fangirl) Yeah! They are testing the phones and wasting them so that people who buy this know its not a waste of money.
Who is watching in 2017
DIY Master me
me my s6 js dead is not charging :)
Still have mine, haven't dropped in water yet thou
DIY Master 2018
DIY Master I'm watching in 2018
That last bit was a software update, it wasn't spazzing, just closing all apps so that it could restart.
What music is it in the background? I see Marq, Unbox, Austin use it sometimes
I always liked yours videos, but dude, what's the purpose of harming a new phone?
Rodolfo Rausseo It's a contracted unit for testing from Samsung, there is nothing wrong with harming the phone, in fact, if he doesn't, he is breaching the contract and will get in trouble from Samsung.
Khan Piesse i didnt know that, thanks for the info
Rodolfo Rausseo The Samsung Galaxy S6 is the best designed and most technologically advanced smartphone on the market.
It makes the iPhone 6 look like an ugly, stone-age tool.
+StealthTechz yeah thats why samsung completely copied iphone 6
Matti Matuszewski what r u talking about, what is similar about the two phones?
wow I actually thought it was water proof and I tried and mine died on the first 30 seconds
jsharpe15 why do you do that?
I didn't really do it tho
I was joking
who are u anyway
+jsharpe15 what is life?
Damn the battery was draining so fast !!!
The battery life drains due to the water disfunction
6:30min. damn the battery drops every 3sec.
So I tried it, RIP to my Galaxy
I would be afraid to do this. 😕 I currently have an s4 Active, and I don't even trust this stupid thing in water! 😂 I wipe it off really quick with a damp cloth, but I won't drop it in water...
Price Epical 300 dollars each? No.
+Price Epical How when your name begins with price.😂
+Price Epical OHHH😅
i had a xperia z before my s6 and even those sometimes die in water.
i took it to the shower once when it was brand new as i had insurance but i did never try aggain :"D.
these things are too expensive to drop into water to see if theyre failing.
My problem is with consistency of the stopwatch in the immersed phone and time stamp on the video; time on the phones' stopwatch reads 15:13:43 and and on the video it reads 5:27:__??? Is this just an advert of actually real???
I love this phone. I'm gonna git it fer black friday and now i fell safer cause of this video.really helpful. thx!!!
My S6 fall in water for 5 seconds and it dies, this is a fake!
It falls in the WC (toilet water) XD
Lies, i have an 6s edge i droop it in water to test camera for 10 sec and i lost the speakers and it wont charge anymore, and the camera became a 1MP shooter....
It was probably deep water so yah
maybe
Salt water any deeper than that will just demolish a non ip68 phone. There is next to no pressurein the test bowl.
Shouldnt dunk a non-waterproof phone under water...
Yahiaoui Fedi i have a s6 edge too
2019
I like that beat you got in the background, does it have a name?
I am really impressed with all the torture testing on the s6. well done Samsung
what bulshit, its just some other liquid not water
I'm pretty sure all liquids would still affect a phone. I've dropped plenty of phones in different liquids. It still worked, not as well though.
Distilled water
Taran Karanth yah...stop being a fool..any liquid should have killed it😂😂
hey @TechSmartt could you please do a water test on the ZTE Grand X Max Plus? I can not find one and would really like to know how it holds up in water since I will be taking it to a waterpark in a few weeks, so could you?
So they do use a coating on the components, just no water seal casing and therefor no waterproof certificate
Maybe it was spasms because you didn't apply the new update which adds full waterproof capability.
I'm so over it.
iPhone 7.
iphone 7 sucks
I dropped mine in a little thing of water, and its broke. Just flat out BROKE...
Did you even test the speakers and calling quality afterwards???
Why would you start applying an electrical current when it's not completely dried yet?
The water can go from the place where we charge or insert earphones?
hell even the s3 and s4 do well in full submerge in water.... not like the s5 though at least the battery can be removed...
honestly all you would need to do with this one is let it dry/don't use it for a day and you'll likely restore it... 21 mins for a non certified waterproof phone is really good.
I can finally take a selfie underwater
WAIT IS THAT KEATON!???
You showed that it can at the very least get splashed real good with water and not break. If it gets dropped in the toilet and taken right out, it will be fine also. If you took it apart and used a blow dryer on it, it probably would have fixed it.
help me my s6 edge is in the water for 5 seconds and it doesnt work pls hlp :(
Sad :(
Back when Keaton actually made videos on tech...
Nothing beats Samsung it's indestructible and resilient
I feel like people complaining about dropping their phones in toilets, need to understand you DROPPED it into the water, there was an impact and probably let some water inside, you didnt set it in there. Anyways, cool that this test lasted, hope my edge + will work like a champion for the next few years
I think that they might be some what secretly waterproof because I have accidentally dropped my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ in snow up to my shins twice which the phone was completely submerged and I had to fish for it and it still works completely fine.
Charger tip is burnt? That charger is throwing a high current into the phone for quick charging. the burnt is due to the water logging in the phone.
7.15 when it dies to save you pain
You can see at 7:02 that the water starts to seep into the phone through the headphone jack. Thats probably what killed it the most.
how do you remove that t mobile logo in 10:44?
I have this phone...and I recently dropped it in water, completely submerged for maybe 30sec. It was working fine for at least 3hrs...until I plugged it in to charge. My screen went black and started flashing a blue light. after that my screen didn't come back!! everything still works, calls, texts, emails still coming in and the camera still takes pics even though i cant see anything on the screen. I was very hopeful after seeing this video that my phone would be ok, but unfortunately it wasn't. JFYI in case you are looking for additional information.
Make sure the charging port is dry. I would use a blow dryer or something to try to dry it.
