With the current of the water those phones arent going anywhere near as deep as what they say they are. Its simple pendulum physics. Go to a pool or a stagnant body of water and drop it in there, or add a substantial amount of weight to that paint can. There's a reason as to why boat anchors are so heavy and its so they don't get dragged by a current.

You can't pin down a rope, you could with adequate weight however, that current is moving fast enough to to move a human body anyware from 3-8 mphs. with that said a bucket on a rope is going to move with the current and not go to the bottom, unless of course the bottom is the length of the rope

you used the same galaxy s8 that you used in the original test. thus this water test is not really valid. now to make this an accurate test you should unbox two never before opened phones. a brand new galaxy s8 and a brand new iPhone 7. then keep the phones in the water at each depth for like 30 minutes or same amount of time you did in original video. therefore there is a consistency in the tests. and for all we know you could of had that galaxy s8 submerged before you started filming just give the iPhone a head start. just right now people are seeing this as a way to try making apple better by rigging a water test. if you actually make a legit water test and your iPhone wins I'll be okay with that. using a phone used in the previous test really isn't fair
and before people are thinking im jumping on the samsung bandwagon. I have an iPhone 7 plus and a galaxy s8 plus and I love both of my phones. I use my iPhone 7 for gaming and the galaxy s8 plus for pictures and watching HD videos. I switch off between my phones every week. both phones are great. I just would like to see a valid water test that has real consistency

I could see Apple allowing some inconsistency in the waterproofing of their products but I doubt they would have tolerances that were that forgiving and intend to have some of their phones perform so close to the IPx7 cutoff. From what I can tell, based off the tests done by other youtubers and EAP, my suspicion is that there was an unanticipated defect in the device.

A lot late here but what happened is you weren't getting to the full depth. The can drifted in the current, so instead of lowering to the full depth they were more shallow. Although they were still very deep.

kennyONFIRE brah watch the ropes angle, if the rope is at an angle above the water it will be at a similar angle under the water. A paint can isn't heavy enough to fight a current.
Of course this test tells you almost nothing. You'd have to repeat it with a larger number of devices to really get a picture of which model is more resistant to water damage. Afterall, not all devices are built with equal quality. There's a lot of human error potential at Foxconn. :p

I'm tired with Apple vs Samsung wars. Both companies make pretty much the best phones(innovation/design wise). Everyone got different preference, some people prefer Apple because they have some features/design that Samsung doesn't have, and the other way too. So stop fighting like 12 year old kids.
If someone says that Samsung is better, it's their opinion and You're not gonna change it cause for them it's the best phone. And if someone says that they love their IPhone it's because for them this phone is just perfect. And both companies have pros and cons. No matter if it's an IPhone or Samsung.
I personally like to change phones every 2-3 years(brands) and see what has changed and how it feels with a different phone.
I had nearly all iPhones and quite a lot of Samsung phones. And I can say that they both are great. For now I'm with Samsung just because they can be used like USB drives. On iPhones it also is possible but with apps, and not all the time You have access to iTunes. But with new APFS maybe they will add that feature.
So stop fighting. Everyone got different preferences. And respect their opinions.

Probably because S8 was on the top of iPhone. The back cover glass of S8 stuck with the front cover glass of IPhone because of the surface tension. Water worked as kind of adhesive for two pieces of glasses. As all holes of the iPhone front glass were covered, no wonder it was so amazing. Definitely you should do a separate test for iPhone to prove your statement.

what is fair LOL do you realize starting with the Galaxy S7 Edge ip68 certification means that overall the phone is more protected in the water and more situations in for fact Galaxy phones are better water resistant then the iPhone 7 plus I am a certified computer technician with my own certified computer and repair shop and engineer. I know houses of people with a Galaxy S7 Edge and plenty of people with iPhone 7 Plus's. I have seen so many more iPhone 7 Plus's come into my shop with water damage I almost never see the Galaxy S7 Edge come in with water damage!!
I take my Galaxy S7 edge with me into the pool swimming with it doing anything with it for over a year now there have never been any problems!!
there are tons of videos of the iPhones feeling in basic water tests... it also proves that Apple's quality checks sucks some phones do better than others the galaxies are always consistent because they're made better and they have a better ip68 rating!! it's about consistency phone to phone in more situations in the Apple fails with actually horrible consistency!!
not to mention he's using the same galaxy S8 that he used in the original test he beat the iPhone with!! if there was pressure on the seal during that test it's going to make the seal weaken a little bit!!
not to mention this idiot is doing the test wrong.. it's pressure for how much time that he supposed to be doing!! you should be putting the phones down in 5 feet of water leaving them there 4 30 minutes!! that's where the pressure comes from the duration does a lot of damage!! instead he is half-assing the test only keeping them under there for a certain amount of minutes not 30 which would benefit a phone that has a lesser IP67 certification like the iPhone.. the test is bullshit inconsistent and not done right....
as for the headphone jack it's already been proven over and over again Apple just took the headphone jack out to save money!! because that's what Apple does stripping down everything nickel and dime you saving money like giving you 1080p screens technology five years ago LOL!! no microSD card slot, no fast charging and fast wire charging, not as good cameras, no 2K and 3K screens, a stripped-down version of Unix iOS, no features, no customizations, your phone is no better than a budget Android phone that cost $400 like the OnePlus 3T from Android but people are so stupid and they overpay for the iPhone because they just don't have a clue unfortunately!!!

You could actually calculate how many feet you loose by knowing the current speed in the specific depth and the weight of the box and applying some simple trigonometry

Of course the iphone survived more than the galaxy and thats because you put the galaxy on top of the iphone so it took all the water on its screen and protected the iphone's screen! No wunder that the galaxy died and the iphone didn't!

The iPhone 7 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S8+ seem more water resistant than we thought, well, the S8+ is not as water resistant as the iPhone 7 Plus!
