      Sleepwalkers can do things that are dangerous, to themselves, to others and to things around them. My wife used to be prone to sleepwalking. One night she pulled the shower arm out of the wall (not too bad a fix), tried to break into our safe (failed, but bent the hell out of a very large, heavy duty screwdriver) and severely damaged our kitchen range (that cost a lot of money as it had to be replaced),

    Poor alien just had to get stuck with a roommate with a sleep disorder... My mom's roommate in college sleepwalked. She told me that one time said roommate walked downstairs in her sleep and set the table for dinner, and another student in the house had to come get my mom to bring her back to the room and get her back in bed. As for me, I was the scary roommate. I was under a lot of stress in college, and my freshman year roommate told me one night I sat straight up in bed and just screamed. So a night terror, I guess? My mom used to sleep walk occasionally. One night at like 3 in the morning she came out of her room and went to the kitchen, I followed her because she didn't respond when I said hi (not something she would ever do), she made herself a cup of tea, sat in her favourite chair and lit a bloody cigarette. That's when she 'noticed' me and started talking to me as if I were my dad, talking about completely nonsensical stuff but she kept calling me by my dads name. She never touched her tea, she smoked her cigarette, got up, walked back up to her room and went back to bed. I was thoroughly freaked out, I was like 16, had no idea Mom had a sleep disorder, she had no recollection of *any* of it the next morning but did let me know she would occasionally sleep walk.

      @@traveler4653 Lucid dreaming is when you become aware that you're dreaming and can use your imagination to take control of the dream.

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@traveler4653 Essentially what he said, but also you feel like you are actually there as your self, while knowing its dream world most of the time and being able to control it. Its pretty amazing in that front.... how ever issue in the sleep state.
      Lucid dreaming is essentially phase just after you fell as sleep and takes up around 90% of your brain to run, meaning you are sleeping technically but you are not resting except your eyes if that since eye muscle control can still be there even in lucid dreams. Usually people fall a sleep so fast they dont get to be in lucid state long enough to notice it as it should be just half a hour or so.
      Then there is actual dream states where subconscious takes over and you are along for the ride ie common dreams and nightmares. This stage usually takes 3-5hours, brain is cleaned and its recovering, allowing the body to rest except more active dreams causing movements.
      Following the dream state is the deep sleep, the most important sleep of its all. In this stage brain moves memories from short term memory to long term memory, while flushing toxins, dirt and crap like dead brain cells that has collected into brain during the day. This is most recovering sleep witch can last from 30 minutes to few hours depending on person... or in my case fuck all since i lack the deep sleep phase almost entirely. Lack of it will cause person to forget things more often, even far as its just the item they put down and went "ok i put it here, so its clearly in known spot", few minutes later.. "where the FUUU i put it". Its like computer in your head is running only on RAM memory, that memory is running 100% all the times so any data old enough gets just deleted and unable to store much into hard drive for long term storage. Further problems are decreased immunity and physical health, "brain haze" as inability to think straight, you are constantly like drunk with out being much dizzy... well try staying up long as you can and at end stage you know what i mean. And thankfully the normal dream state covers somewhat but not perfectly, or end result would been death ages ago. Think of it like chronic sleep depravation and you are close..
      Sleep and dreams are rather weird world, but one that each of us should pay attention. When young you should not stay up long and all night, or you will start to have bad school learning just simply from effect of lack of the deep sleep, well as hormonal development is hindered causing person to be most likely shorter than they could be with good night sleep. Dont ask how i know...
      Word of advice, if you wake up from your own snoring or anyone living with you, or in ten block radius wants to end your life cause of it, well as bad memory, exhaustion, go have sleep analysis done, you might have sleep apnea. Once you get it helped by proper treatment, first of all your neighbors or house hold does not want to end your life that much anymore and you get better sleep. Since people usually only get mentioned about it by annoyed friends slee.. trying to sleep in the same room and failing at it, becoming annoyed enough to complain, person might not have any idea they have such issues.
      Hopefully this was helpful crash course into stages of sleep and importance of each, plus some info and rambling on related things that come to sleep deprived mind.

    • @Hellsong89
      @Hellsong89 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Probably though it was better position since you have least some control over the world, while normal dreams you are mostly along for the the ride better or worse.
      Alternatively afraid since human is on control of full different universe in their head... and probably tying that into sleep walking, thinking human was intentionally hunting him.... wait when our xenos buddy runs into slip personality disorders in wiki and mixes that into the treat analysis as well....

    Fun Fact; Humans NEED dreams to survive, and we don't know why.
    R.E.M. (Rapid eye movement) sleep is what happens when a human is dreaming; eyes moving around involuntarily, indicating the hallucinations that are dreams. When humans are deprived of sleep entirely, we begin to break down and experience health issues; the body and brain can't rest and repair properly, so health deteriorates. However, when a human is allowed sleep, but woken whenever they enter R.E.M., the same deterioration occurs over the next few days if this timed waking is sustained. So not only do humans vividly hallucinate each night, we NEED to to maintain health.
    And to this day, we don't know why.

    • @theInsaneRodent
      @theInsaneRodent ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What's fun is that at least some of R.E.M. sleep can happen while awake.
      In college I was so frequently sleep deprived that I developed the ability to start R.E.M. sleep while staying vaguely aware of my surroundings.
      I would do it sitting down just before class and it would actually help with staying awake and clarity of mind.
      Btw, there is a reason why it's called rapid eye movement sleep. They jerk around kinda wildly (as far as I can tell, more so the more sleep deprived I am. Maybe just because it is easier to enter that state and get deeper into it)
      My initial attempts were just trying to hallucinate without direction, (essentially trying to dream while awake), which worked somewhat. It was a surprise when in later attempts my eyes started moving.
