That how Alex always sounded, massive sound with incredible playing. I was blessed to see Rush 23 times live.

This was recorded in Toronto June 1997. This was the Test for Echo tour (still have the tour shirt). Glad to see you guys review this very much underrated song.

This would have been about two months before the accident that claimed his daughters life and put the band in limbo for the next five years.

This was such an awesome tour. No opening act, just Rush. 30 song setlist - almost three hours with one intermission. They sounded soooooo good. Cheers!

If you want to hear a great Neil double bass rhythm you need to check out the live version of "One Little Victory".

This was arguably the last tour where Geddy still had all of his voice. I caught the show in Tampa, FL on December 9th, 1996 and it was a great time as always. Little did I (or the band) know it'd be 6 more years before their next tour due to Neil's family tragedies.
This definitely wasn't overdubbed. The sound is pretty different from the album even though the performances were dead on as always.

Well, on Counterparts/Test For Echo he was actually singing low. For some reason, starting with My Favourite Headache, he started to explore his higher range again. Check out TFE vs Vapor Trails - there's like an octave difference. CA is even tougher on his voice. Either way, he didn't help himself, or he got bad advice.

Saw them 5 times on this tour including this show. Glad to see this video make the light of day. There was a camera crew there with cameras on cranes, etc. Little did we know the fate that awaited Neil a few short months later. I thought we would never see the video from this one.

This song has such an interesting topic that was so important at this particular time..
Another one to check out from this era that is so good is driven. Geddy goes nuts!!!

The first few lines (and appearing again later), end in an "o"... sounding like an echo.
Just like their song "Anagram" that hides something in plain sight.

Alex's guitar sound is due to his mod on his axe. He has (had) two separate outputs on his guitar, one sending a signal to his stack and the other to the house PA.
When he designed a "signature" copy guitar for fans, it didn't make much of a splash ( maybe that's changed ) because few if any reviewers hooked it up with the two outputs used at once, or at least not properly. "It doesn't sound like Alex!" (Well DUH! Set it up right and *then* comment...)
There's footage on here (YT) of Alex describing switching the PA feed on to complement the stack, "treated" sound, and that both together is what "fills the arena" as I recall.

Wasn't my favorite Rush album, but a great song. They never played it again following the tour for which it was written which is a drag. I guess they didn't love it as much as I did. Only a few short months following this performance, Neil would lose his daughter in an automobile accident and then his wife a year or so later.

I’m not going to lie. It is hard for me to watch this concert or listen to it knowing that in a few short months from it Neil will experience the most horrible experiences anyone should ever have to go through. The energy and effort is their usual stuff , knowing what is about to unfold is devastating. Like watching footage of JFK riding in the limo in Dallas before he is shot. My feelings go out.
