- Ali Ingersoll is living proof that we all have the power to keep moving forward despite the circumstances surrounding us. Becoming paralyzed after a tragic accident at just 27 years old, she would endure years of painful hospital treatments and diagnoses that would nearly end her life. However, she would eventually discover how to embrace her physical paralysis differently and transform her new physical reality to uncover hidden and extraordinary opportunities.
In Ali’s TEDx talk, she’ll share her story and reveal her idea worth spreading which serves as a testament to the power of resilience and boundless potential that lies within each of us. As long as we take 100% responsibility to persevere, our next chapter in life will reveal itself as it should even if it may not be immediately obvious in the moment. Ali’s message will inspire us that whatever obstacles or adversity we may be faced with each day, there is always opportunity to KEEP MOVING FORWARD. Ali’s life took an unexpected turn when a tragic accident left her paralyzed. While she grappled with feelings of hopelessness and through 7 years of treatments, she was convinced her life had reached its end. Rather than succumbing to despair though, she would eventually experience a self-discovery that would empower her to shift her thinking and find the courage to keep moving forward despite her paralysis.
Ali’s story serves as a testament to the power of resilience and the boundless potential that lies within each of us, regardless of the challenges we face to transform visible challenges into extraordinary opportunities. Sharing her message and insights now as a professional speaker and disability consultant, Ali travels the world advocating for disability inclusion and inspiring people to harness the power of purpose and persistence to keep moving forward despite adversity. She’s known as the “Energizer Bunny on Wheels 2.0,” “Quirky Quad,” and Ms. Wheelchair America. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
4 years advocating for power chair seat elevators. Until this video I had no idea people like you put in such a huge effort for this CRITICAL need. From the bottom of my heart - THANK YOU!!!!
thank you so much for the kind words. There are thousands of us putting in effort every day :-)
What's so beautiful about this talk is that even though Ali Ingersoll is sharing her deeply personal, unique story, she shares takeaways that everyone -everyone! - can learn from and apply to their own personal story 💛
we are all in this ride of life together and the more we authentically share, the more I believe we authentically grow. Thank you Sarah for all your support always.
Ali is such a badass. I have witnessed firsthand that Ali has one gear and that is full throttle, constantly moving forward.
I do have one gear… I will rest when I'm older :-)
So many wonderful quotes to continue processing and practicing! "It wasn’t until I replaced my power to control with my power to let go that I started to move forward."
I remind myself of that quote every day :-)
I've known this unbelievably strong woman since childhood and am in awe of her strength, grace, intelligence, and beauty.
that means the world. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the video.
Inspiration, Humor and life lessons rolled up into one smart package. Ali pushes everyone around her to find the best in themselves.
"so can you" 👏what a pleasure to know you and get to know your story. Mental paralysis is real, especially after trauma (physical or otherwise) and you have so much to share to help others. Thank you for being brave enough to put this talk together!
I love Ali's sense of humor. And her passion to advocate for herself and others.
I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and having a sense of humor is what keeps me moving forward each day :-)
Ali's vulnerability gives us permission to look at the dark areas in our own lives and challenges us to rise again. So courageous!
thank you so much for watching. It's challenging to talk about the dark areas of life, but we all experience them
Ali's leadership message is so genuine and impactful. It only takes 16 minutes to change your perspective!
you completely made my day with this comment. Now onto writing a book :-)
Thanks for showing us what real success and happiness look like wrapped up in a meaningful life's purpose and responsibility for it--all the best for your speaking engagements and keep making people laugh!
I have an athlete, that I have known from 6 weeks out from his amputation, join our swim team. Before his 1st practice I pulled him aside and asked him to be patient with his new teammates, as they are going to ask about why he has one leg, which was a traumatic accident, and simply say that it was a bad accident.
The letting go that you mentioned is a large part of the healing process mentally.
I told him that people ask me all the time what happened to me, answer the question, let go, and move forward.
Your TedTalk reminded me the sit down I had with the athlete to help him start letting go and moving forward.
Great Ted Talk
thank you so much for sharing the story Wes
Ali Ingersoll is strong, wise, and beautiful. Keep on inspiring people, Ali! You're good at it.

If Ali had time to write a book, it would be a best seller. I will be watching this again.
Each time I listen to this talk I get something new out of it.
Thank you Nellie ... Ted would have cut me off after 18 minutes, but there are so many things we can all learn from each other :-)
I'm glad my sister Marcey sent me this. Perfect timing. Things aren't going well. Let go & move forward
sometimes we have to live in the moments that are not great, but keep in mind what our future self wants our present self to be aware of as well. We do the best we can in the moments that are most challenging
Brave and beautiful, you continue to shine! Thank you for inspiring all of us.

I’m fortunate to have known Ali my whole life, she’s like a sister to me, and it broke my heart when she had her accident. I was shocked by her will, her determination, and her fighting spirit to overcome such an enormous obstacle. She opens up about some dark moments here but when I’ve spoken with her over the years she always had a fighter’s outlook. I can’t keep up with Ali, she’s a force of nature and we can all draw inspiration from her. And I don’t know anyone more frank than Ali, she pulls no punches. What a great TED talk, I just subscribed thanks to her
My friend, my family... Thank you so much for the support of comment and can't wait to see you again in Miami soon :-)
Awesome job Ali! You're an unrelenting force in our disability community! Thank you for all your work! Excellent talk!! 💚♿️💪
I love your analogy about mental paralysis. Many times in my life I have been in that state. I'm going to write "Keep Moving Forward" on a Post-it & stick it on my mirror!❤
I love that technique about post-its. I've done my whole life and after my paralysis I have digital post it :-)
Even in just a few exchanges and now watching your TEDx Talk, you have left an indelible imprint on my life. I am profoundly grateful for your confirmation to release control, feel, and simply be. Thank you.
thank you so much for your kind words and I hope to be writing a book by the end of the year :-)
