Remember this day vividly as a 13 year old ditching school to watch the amassed fleet sail in to the Harbour, and the Salute sailing on the Saturday....then to do it all again two years later for the Bicentennial Naval Salute in 1988...times well remembered at Mrs Macquaries Chair....and the sunburn 😂😂😂😂....but the IOWA's were most impressive at both events. Thanks for posting this one...cheers from western Sydney!!! 🍻🍻🍻🍻
My grandfather was on board that ship. The USS Missouri has always been my favorite vessel. These days... A ship like that wouldn't stand a chance against modern naval forces. But just imagine... Being the bad guy anywhere within 20-something miles of the shoreline knowing that the USS Missouri was just off the coast getting ready to take you to pound town with those 16-in guns. What a fucking unsettling feeling that must be. Glad I'll never know.

1985 -1987. Majestic warship. Honored to have served on her.
