pay for it note from peter: we shot this video before COVID-19 had become what it is today. the scenes in the hospital were inspired by moments in the past couple of years when leah and i had severe health scares in our family. my mum was under quarantine for a bad organ infection in 2018, and we had to wear these yellow protective suits from head to toe to prevent the spread of the disease when visiting her. she called us her “lemon drops”. i stayed with her in the room and read an arthur manuel book out loud as she bravely fought the disease off. leah’s dad had a stroke soon after and the anxiety of our parents' mortality began to infiltrate our lyrics as we wrote the new record. it’s funny how those times seem so simple looking back now. i guess that’s how these things go. it’s been a scary time for everyone i know, and i bet for everyone you know too. i find it remarkable that i’ve never felt closer to the rest of the world, even though we’re all following wise orders to stay away from each other. we are all constantly thinking about the exact same thing right now, discussing and unpacking it on phone calls and online. what i can say from my time with my mum in the hospital is that i was under the impression that it was going to be our final time together. she had beaten cancer a few years prior and i had it strong in mind that this infection was going to be it. so i let my guard down and leaned in, you know? that experience pushed us to be closer than what i thought was possible. i hope that the experience we’re all having right now with this pandemic can do that. that we can push pause and take a moment to reflect on the responsibilities we hold to the world and one another. times are darker now than i can ever remember, but maybe it’s easier to discuss the time when the clock stops ticking. sending love to you and yours. -p th-cam.com/video/LFH12rmYni8/w-d-xo.html
