Yeah, I suspect that the visor was supposed to have an interchangeable blast effect. Classic Hasbro moves.
My favourite Cyclops look is the slightly different, Utopia version of this look. Love the X looking more like badge, along with the different linework in the design. Makes him look more like the leader of the mutant race, rather than a superhero, so it suited the era really well.
Even as a 90’s kid who loves the Jim Lee designs, astonishing is still my favorite cyclops look.
One of the best versions of Cyclops as well. He is bad ass in that series.
The fact that Hasbro didn't care enough to add a non-powered visor piece but still sculpted a whole new body for this specific suit is so weird, lol.
My favorite look for Cyclops is what he wore during Schism. It's basically this suit, but it has the X logo on the breast with the assymetric yellow lines across one shoulder, and large gold cuffs around the wrists and ankles.
As for the pressing hand, I think it's fine. The way Cyclops turns on his visor has been shown differently across different media. Sometimes it's a button he presses, sometimes he rotates a switch, sometimes he presses it on and then it stays on until he drains his energy or whatever, and sometimes he does more of a C-shaped finger cup (I assume because his visor would be touch sensitive). Personally, my head cannon is that it's a button that's harder so that he doesn't have an AD. A heavier trigger pull, if you will
When he wore the 90s/Jim Lee costume, there was a button on his wrist cuffs that opened his visor so he could shoot his optic blasts.

It's odd Cyclops still presses the visor to optic blast. The entire point of his Jim Lee costume was the added feature of a button in his glove to activate his visor. So he wouldn't have to touch his visor. I suppose it's just an iconic pose.
Multiple switches and settings. His glove button is allows for a basic blast while his visor is much more advanced, allowing a multitude of settings from an extremely fine blast that he can shoot through the eye of a needle, to the full out full force blast.
Imagine if cyclops looked exactly like the picture on the box 🎉🎉 that would be dope as hell. A collecters dream.
Cyclops hasn’t needed to touch his visor to fire off his blasts since the 80’s so I’m happy when they include hands that don’t have that pose.
This was the only X-Men comic that I LOVE. And I'm mainly a DC guy. So,I pre-ordered him & Emma in day one. Will do mods for Emma. But for the most part. Stoked to get them!

My favorite costume for Cyclops is his silver age/bronze age costume that he wore from the late 60s until the mid 80s.
Jim Lee Cyclops (most well known from the Animated Series) is my favorite, and sometimes I look at the designs with hair covered as of he was a swimmer lol
This Cyclops reminds me of both Wolverine and the X-Men (2009) and Super Hero Island at Universal

Without a doubt his 80's look is my favorite. Also the Cyclops they actually did a decent job with the paint. I can't wait for the update on that one.

Your adjusted versions are such simple fixes and look so much better, it makes me sad. But I love when you do them.
“Astonishing” would be Hasbro giving us a wave with all the figures being top notch and a quality BAF.
My favorite was the Evolution version voiced by the late great Kirby Morrow.
That cartoon was my introduction to X-Men, and had some of my favorite designs for the characters

My favorite look for Cyclops is probably Jim Lee, followed by the blue and white X-Factor look, but with the skull top. How about an alternate question of the day? What do people think of that smoky effect Cyclops is sometimes drawn with? I never understood it, since he shoots concussive laser beams and not heat-based ones. I think it looks stupid and I hate it applied to this figure. Include it as an accessory if you must, Hasbro, but there should be a second head without it.
Smoke comes from fire. Fire is caused by friction. Cyclops' blast are indeed concussive, but are sometimes so powerful and fast that they make the objects or even the air catch fire briefly as they past through them, thus causing smoke to follow as there is no consistent fuel to allow the fire to continue, so in an instant the object, if flammable, or even the air, can briefly ignite depending on how powerful/fast Cyclops is blasting, and then will immediately be extinguished by the passing wind etc but allowing the smoke to linger which what happens in real life if you put out any type of fire, there will lingering smoke well past the fire being put out.
i think this is the best figure form the wave and that says something... Im excited for the rest of the reviews

Cut off the smoke effect for neutral, use sticky tack if u ever need it again, the gold stands bits stand out in a cheap way but a wash or something could fix that.

Jim Lee till I die, jacket or no jacket. I did like the Astonishing run too and this look.
I think the blast hand is designed so the thumb rests on his jaw and the fingers straight up to touch the visor.

Also appreciate the review. This look is iconic for the early 2000s and my ideal Cyclops but the visor options are pathetic and no figure at this price point should have a hinged neck with no tilting; particularly bad for a character like Cyclops who absolutely needs dynamic neck poseability. I'd like a Cyclops for my display, but this review's the nail in the coffin - time to wait for a sale because this is definitely not worth SRP. And as someone who's frequently painted gold on WH40k space marines, the molded plastic looks *quite* terrible, especially when right next to the actual gold paint.

I understand some of your complaints, however some of it is a bit nitpicky (such as the fit of the visor) because these things generally go up on a shelf and I'll glance at it once in awhile, but don't look very closely at it (for me, the shine makes a difference because shelf lights will make it very noticeable, even at a glance).
Yeah, some people use them for photography, so I do get it that some of it is worth mentioning, like the posability.

The more you waste your time making excuses for Hasbruh, the worse the products will get. How can you even begin to justify their stuff when Figuarts are sometimes $10 or so more expensive?

Have you done a comparison of all the current Hasbro action figure lines (GI Joe, Marvel Legends, MMPR, etc) and point out the strengths and weaknesses of each and how you go about doing the ultimate Hasbro action figure.
I have not. Too much variety in each line. All have very bad figures and all have at least some really solid ones.

The pressing hand only works if he came with like a yelling headsculpt. As if he’s blasting as hard as possible

This absolutely looks better but even your adjustment seems a bit off too so I'm okay with this as a kind of "normal" , "middle size" body.

My favorite version of Cyclops is the Jim Lee version! Other than that I would say X-Factor (Blue and White) Marvel Now (Black and Red) and the Utopia-clops (Matt Fraction run)
I agree the head is too big. I hate figures like that. Just makes things look so goofy. It's not so huge that it ruins it for me but, it is a little too big. The cankles annoy me too. The lack of Visor options is embarrassing. They make these figures for collector and for kids.... they don't think a kid will snap that power effect off in 3 seconds? My nephew is terrible with his toys. He man handles them. He would break it off in record time. And as for collectors, they KNOW we want options. This is just LAZY.
If you can, get your hands on Transformers Legacy Tarn. Its a $30 main line transformer that has amazing articulation, a fun transformation, and feels great. Same company, almost the same price.
Kinda messed up that I would have killed for these versions of the Astonishing X-Men 16 years ago over the ones they initially released in 2007 and 2008, but I definitely don’t want them now for nearly $30 and a lack of accessories.
I got a few legends, power rangers, and black series in the windowless box. I wont be getting anymore at all as long as they keep doing windowless.

Hold up, the visor piece is THAT easily removable, and Hasbro couldn't sculpt a neutral one to throw into the packaging?
Or even one where he's actually blasting? The House of X Cyclops came with one of those, I think.

I always do prefer the 1990s Jim Lee look for Scott Summers aka Cyclops because that is how I always used with him in that cool design, But I mind the Astonishing X-MEN look so I will try to get him as well as the Astonishing X-MEN Emma Frost, Great review.

I just can't help but laugh at the glue gun end at the visor. I don't know why they can't give the house of x eye beam effect with cyclops.
How they handled the face and visor is just tragic. A figure I was interested in at first glance but cancelled. Jim Lee's X-Men TAS Cyclops is my favorite look for him regardless though.
Thats the same hand id expect ginyu to have for a overly exaggerating pointing hand. Its very anime/ stylized.

Favorite Cyclops would be the Neil Adams version. An action figure without a power accessory is a crime nowadays. It hurts even more when it is an A-lister. For the amount of money, it is a waste not to include one (similar to selling a shield-less Cap). This fact alone, prevents me from upgrading my existing Cyclops with this one. I am confident that I am not the only one. Thanks for your work on this one - and remember even if the product sucks eggs, we still love your reviews on them.
At first, it looks great, but after comparison, I like the photoshopped version better.

You were too nice to this figure honestly, it being relatively closer to the right look makes the typical problems stand out even more (big head, squatty yet simultaneously wimpy overall proportions, etc.)
The Jim Lee design is my favorite look. I love how we have to over analyze the hand bc they can't get it right

Jim Lee (like everyone else), followed by Cockrum (circa Giant-sized and Dark Phoenix). While I recognize that Astonishing is a modern iteration of Cockrum's black and yellow, I think it loses out by not having the yellow underwear over the pants
All marvel legends figures I’ve seen looks the same in terms of their body. They lack distinctiveness in how they’re shaped and I always felt like the shoulders were uncomfortably low down on the torso

Jim Lee design for me. As fsr as this figure goes, I like that they actually molded the strips instead of the usually lazy crap they pull, but do agree the shoulders and head make it look off.

I think you're being too tough on the figure and Hasbro. I customize figures and it is sooooo challenging trying to make everything perfect.
This is a quite accurate product of Cyclops (which is my personal favorite character in Marvel) to his Astonishing comic depiction.
The color and inlay of the gold is great imo. The cost of all these new parts are expensive. For 25 bucks, in the current economy and cost of raw materials and logistics, we are getting a very good product and consistently getting new and better products. For all ya'll articulation NAZIs, be real, you get the figure and plop it on some shelf with the other 792 figures just standing there collecting dust. Less than 5% of all of ya'll collectors are "playing" with the figures or posing them for A.C.B.A. You complain about articulation but in reality never ever ever use the figure after getting it out of the box and putting it with its "team" or its "spot" on the shelf. Be honest with yourselves, these are very very good figures for the price and are often quite accurate for the fans. Nothing is ever perfect. Be happy.

I too customize. And while pricey I enjoy it, however I would prefer if hasbro would just make things accurately so I don't have to. Painting by hand is hard for me as an individual to get things smooth but a massive company should be able to get paint right. If individuals can get sculpts right for 3d prints a massive company should be able to do the same. Making the sculpt can't be as difficult as you imply.
Now indo agree sometime people can be too hard. And I definitely agree on articulation, for example I feel the flash batfleck review was too harsh. I love the sculpt and the articulation is good minus the ab crunch, but that's so to armor. So either articulation or accuracy and given its a small issue I prefer accuracy. I love that figure, and while I shouldnt have to properly paint it I'm OK doing so. But paint and accessories aside i love it. But again, if an amateur can do good a major company should be able to do better.
Credit where it's do but don't make too many excuses for them.

I agree with you about proportioning but I feel like you contradict yourself sometimes. Sometimes you say the proportions are too realistic and not comic accurate enough. Sometimes you fuss, saying they are not realistic enough (ie. The Skrull King). Sometimes I just feel like you’re nitpicking a little bit. Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t felt great about Legends quality lately, but some things aren’t as bad as you make them out to be.
You don't understand the difference between exaggerated proportions and something being inhuman? Context matters. Comic characters have bigger bodies and smaller heads but they don't shoulders coming out of the middle of their rib cage.

I must have the same problem in my head that Anthony does because I can clearly see all the problems he is pointing out…. If the figure is good he says it is if it’s bad he says it is…. he is the most honest reviewer I’ve ever watched on here…. 8/10 is a good rating.
They make sense to me as well, so it's not just in Anthony's head. For the price point, there are noticeable issues like the pathetic accessories, and as a painter myself, that molded gold looks like garbage next to the gold paint. Don't see why those couldn't have been painted considering how little else this figure has compared to what they're charging.

This is part of the reason why I never can bring myself to buy a marvel legends figure…they all look "stumpy".
