A wiser man than I am once said "The steam locomotive is the closest that God in His wisdom has allowed man to come to creating life." Mr. Dickens' observations certainly bear that out. It's also the reason that most people find them so fascinating when they get up-close and personal with one. Think about it, a steam locomotive eats, drinks, breathes, works, and speaks to you. How many other machines can do that, and in quite the same way? Great video, thanks for posting it!
Excellent work! Saw you stationary in Denver! And thanks to Paul Guercio (and his excellent directions!) climbing the grade at Speer Junction!! I drove from Seattle, via Promontory, then through Ogden and along the Wyoming Division to Cheyenne. It was magnificent, among the happiest times of my life. The locomotive and the country are incredible--and we'd all love to see you up here in the Northwest! Thanks again!
Big boy is just a BEAST when it comes to size It’s an amazing steam train and it’s little brother the challenger is just amazing too Big boy is just AMAZING a great video!
I saw you guys in town at Fort Worth, and I saw you again the next morning rolling out of town. (Did a little bit of chasing but residential areas kept gettig in the way.) I could not BELIEVE the Big Boy would come to Fort Worth, something few UP Steam Program tours have done, if any! I look forward to seeing 4014 again if he comes through here, and I also look forward to seeing 844 if she ever rolls through. To all the UP Steam Program members, I wish you high greens! HIGHBALL!

I think they owe the northwest a tour like Northern California, Oregon and Washington. Think that was planned in 2020, but Covid took care of that. Hope she's paired with 4015 again.
Very nice, although I'm a little disappointed there wasn't a shot from the front showing off the articulation. I'd love to see the boiler veer off as it goes around a tight turn.

Had the pleasure of seeing the 4014 in action and up close while stopped during the 2019 tour across Eastern Colorado and stopping in two towns. Couple days later, I saw this locomotive at track speed entering into Denver from the east. This last tour, I had already moved to St. Louis, MO, and I wasn't able to do a chase or an up close visit due to work obligations. But I did catch the 4014 high-balling through Eureka, MO at track speed. Click on my name to see these, and other basic rail-fanning videos on my channel!
