  • Tune in for a quick video catching a nice winter flounder at Nudgee beach, Brisbane on a Berkley Skid Jig 20 gram. These lures are fantastic for casting a long way and fishing in faster moving currents (as long as there aren’t many snags). I have caught flathead, whiting, bream, flathead and fringefin trevalley on these lures and really enjoy using them so I thought I would share some tips. Enjoy and hopefully more videos to come soon.

      Hey @keith! Yeah, it’s a great way to catch fish. I find it’s good to fish at Nudgee on a weekday if you can it’s getting pretty busy on weekends these days. Those jigs are awesome and you can really cast them a long way too. Good luck with your fishing mate, hope you catch some fish! Cheers!

    Nice Flounder mate 🎣 Wow 🤩 that thing casts a mile! the way you rigged it this time will allow you to even fish rocky areas with a bit more confidence you won’t snag up too much with those assist hooks at the top. Enjoy 🍻

      Yeah, these small one work well tied on both ways. They are very versatile lures. I thought I would explain it in this video because a fair few people think I’m tying them on the wrong way by accident, but that how I fish them. Haha, thanks heaps for comment mate & good luck with your fishing! Yew! 🎣

      Hey @Allan, that’s awesome! Glad to hear you got some Berkley Skid Jigs. What weight did you get? I used a 20 gram on in this video but also have some 40gram ones which I want to use off the beach. They are fantastic lures and I definitely take them everywhere with me. Just have to watch out for snags in the estuaries. Good luck mate! Let me know if you get some fish 🐟 🎣

      @@nigiessquidgies Got four 20g and three 40g. Gonna try them out at the beach when they come, less snags than rock fishing.

    Good stuff mate, I haven't had too much luck on the skid jig yet or even any metal tbh haha even have some mustad mezashi casting jigs that I got for Dart that I haven't gotten around to using... most luck I've had on metals are metals vibes like the ZX40

    • @nigiessquidgies
      @nigiessquidgies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey @solarmax! Hope you are going well mate. Yeah, those ZX40’s are supposed to be wicked lures! I haven’t tried them myself but I’ve heard they are great lures! I’ll have to get some and trial them up around Brissy. Those mustard mezashi ones are really good. My brother has been getting Bonito, flathead and Tailor on them off the beach. Hopefully weather is good and you can get out for a fish this weekend mate, yew! I’m fishing down south 🤫 trying to get a video.. haha. Speak soon mate!

    Good job Nigel! Never caught myself a flounder but they seem like cool fish!

      Hey @Chfisho, thanks heaps. Yeah, they are cool fish to see. I normally catch them in areas with heaps of flathead and sand flats. It was a pretty cool fish and it hit the Berkley Skid jig pretty hard too. I was surprised. Thanks heaps brother! 🎣

      @@nigiessquidgies I'm surprised fish are hitting the jig in that relatively shallow water! Clearly its a good lure that works well. I'm sure its surprising to catch flounder where you'd typically expect an abundance of flathead. 🎣

    Wow I would have never thought that these jigs could catch fish in so shallow water! Excellent fish though, I haven't had any bites on the skid jig yet.

    • @nigiessquidgies
      @nigiessquidgies  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks heaps @Lucas T, yeah they are awesome for fishing in the estuaries. Especially when you want to cast a long way out and if the current is moving fast. I’ve caught bream, whiting, flathead, fringefin Trevalley and heaps of other fish on them. They are pretty well priced too I think the full price is $12.99 and I got this one on special for $5 a while ago. I put S factor on them too. Thanks heaps mate and hope you can get some fish with them soon! 🎣

      @@nigiessquidgies Do you do a slow retrieve for fish like bream and flathead?

    • @nigiessquidgies
      @nigiessquidgies  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lucast5964 I actually fish these lures pretty quickly - don’t be afraid to work them fast, with no long pauses. I find the fish will hit it more if it’s moving quickly and when they free fall down they flutter and it gives off heaps of movement for the fish. I also try to let them hit the Sandy bottom and kicks up sand and this attracts fish. If you are fishing for Trevalley or big eye, wind them heaps fast and they will chase it. They are awesome fun. Watch out for snags though and the hooks are heaps strong too.

    Hey mate whats your set up in this video? 👌

    • @nigiessquidgies
      @nigiessquidgies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Shuhei Lawson, in this video I'm using the older Shimano Sienna 2500 reel (they have a newer version of the Sienna's now), The rod is a Shimano Sonic Series 662 3-5kg spin rod, the Braid is 10lb Diawa J-Braid X8 (Island Blue) which I've added some extra line in chartreuse green (needed a full reel for casting distance). The leader is approx 12lb FC Rock leader and it's a 20 gram Berkley Skid Jig in the pink colour. This size setup is pretty good for the estuaries and it's pretty good value for money as well. In my newer videos I'm using a Shimano Nexave 2500 which is a nice reel too. Hope you enjoyed the video mate! Yew!

    For sure, that isn’t winter flounder. It is summer flounder(fluke)
