This man has the most complete 'all-around' trophy case in basketball history! * College player of the year * Rookie of the year * 3 consecutive 3pt Shootout wins (When it actually "mattered") * Founded the 50/40/90 club * 3 consecutive MVP's * 3 All Defensive Team selections (Prior to injury issues) * Averaged 10 rebounds for a career (As a small forward, more than Patrick Ewing! Even with all the injuries & a solid frontline to fight with for boards) * Swept the GOAT twice & beat EVERYONE in his era * The 'lefty' game * 2nd alltime in win percentage * 2 Finals MVP's * Coach of the Year Award * Executive of the Year He may or may not be the GOAT. Either way, Bird is easily the most complete, all-around, high IQ, WINNING basketball player I have ever watched. I have MJ as the GOAT but, Bird put fear in everyone including Jordan.
Bird played this game with a bad back, injuries to both achilles heels, and bronchial pneumonia. Probably the greatest 4th quarter in NBA playoff history. Great reaction as always bro.
According to Bob Ryan, the famous sports writer, before one game, when Bird was warming up, Bob asked him if he thought he could shoot a 3-pointer left-handed. Bob bet him $5. Bird asked how long he had to get it done, and Bob didn't put a limit on it. He said Bird sank the lefty 3-pointer on his second shot. He said Bird played the game with that 5 spot tucked in his sock.
What always surprised me was that everyone saw the dunks that Dominique Wilkins did and thought all he had was those power dunks. If you watch him, he had an amazing touch when he shot.
Dominique Wilkins is way underrated. He should have been on the 92 Dream Team(but I think he was hurt) and he definitely should have been on the greatest 50 NBA players of all time.
@@JamesLeeHall Dominique was such a phenomenal player! One of the true superstars of that era. He definitely deserved a spot on the Dream Team but, as you say, he was still nursing a serious injury.
After the 18:25 shot, i love the little "look left, look right" move by Bird. He was known for knowing where everyone was at all times, and that little look routine shows you why. He just made the basket! Did he celebrate? Nope. He looked for the field layot asap.
Plus Bird played softball and I guess tried to catch a softball without a glove(I’m not sure of the play) or something happened, where he mangled his finger,on his shooting hand. Apparently it was noticeable bent
@@JamesLeeHall Larry has said his shooting was never the same again. Think about that for a second. There is a version of Larry Bird where his shooting is even scarier.
Love Larry Bird. Love his heart for the game. Fellow Hoosier that makes Indiana so proud. Thank you for showing this video-thought I had seen them all. ❤❤❤❤❤ By the way, you can see full games from his senior year at Indiana State on their way to the playoffs. Look up ISU Sycamore BB games 1978-79. It’s fun to watch him so young. It’s from a local TV station, it was the 70’s, so it’s not the best quality, but it is still a good watch. Good presentation tonight. You have a new subscriber. ❤
There was a book that quoted a rookie BJ Armstrong telling the story about MJ telling his teammates not to talk to Larry., Since MJ has said Larry was the best trash talker ever and he learned everything from him, I suppose it could be true.
(I always make this comment on Bird vids). My mom was the real BB fan in our family. She was fanatical and knowledgeable. The reason I know a bit about the Celtics is because of her. Her favorite player was not Larry Bird. It was Dennis Johnson. She was a night owl and watched the NBA in the 1978-79 season when there was tape delay even for the playoff games. The taped games would be broadcast after the local news at 10:30 CST. The Supersonics won the championship in 1979 and I believe Dennis Johnson won the MVP.
You and your mother are very blessed,i wish i had the chance to see bird play,my dad was in Africa and did not have cable,by the time he had cable jordan was in the middle of his championship reign, and my mom didn’t pay attention to basketball
@@itzkhiiii My dad wasn't really a BB fan. When he retired my mom dragged (a bit overstated) to all the arenas at that time. I was in 11th grade BB had not reached its height of popularity. My mom and dad would fly all over the country just to see BB games. It was 1981.
You are correct. DJ was playoff MVP,when he won championship in Seattle. Birds first championship they had Tiny Archibald at point. Do you remember Michael Jordan’s rookie year. MJ wasn’t first option. First option was Orlando Woolridge
Whoever you have at number one..remember that MJ was zero for six against Bird in 6 playoff runs..and MJ’s MVP SEASON..HE WAS 1-4 against the Pistons and Isiah Thomas and Bill Laimbeer..not to mention..not only was Bird also an MVP..Bird was one of only 3 players in history to win it three in a row..Russell..Chamberlain…LARRY BIRD…and as a coach for 3 years at Indiana Pacers..Bird was Coach of the Year in 1998..and after moving to the front office as President of the Pacers..voted Executive of the Year in 2012..and yeah..in 1980..he was Rookie of the Year over Magic..in Bird’s 1st year..Bird took a team from worst in the league with 29 wins..to 61 wins and to the championship game..Bird’s 2nd year..they won it all..Jordan improved the Bulls by 2 games his first year..2 more games his 2nd year by year 4 ..you guessed it…they improved by 4 or 5 games over his first year..Bird played 13 years with a permanently dislocated forefinger on his dominant shooting hand..finger got dislocated in a baseball game the summer before his first Celtic contract..finger bent at 90 degrees toward his thumb and in 1985 in the off season..shoveling gravel for his mother’s driveway..tore his back so badly he wore a brace for the rest of his career..and doctors could never straighten his finger or stabilize his back..every night he played his last 7 years..was in pain..but he played..my home is Kansas..the man who invented basketball..James Naismith was our first coach..he is buried in Lawrence ,Kansas beside his wife (1939)..his original…Ten Rules of Basketball are behind glass next to Allen Field House..and he would probably say Bird was the best who ever played..Magic Johnson said so..and Pat Riley said he would Pick Larry Bird if he had to pick one player ti save his life..but Michael Jordan, who only started winning rings after Bird retired..is considered the GOAT..cuz people don’t dig to learn about the game in the ‘80’s…in the late ‘80’s it was Bird..and Jordan knew that..but everyone focuses on the 90’s..and Jordan..the 80’s were Kareem..Magic..Isiah Thomas, Dominque..Magic Johnson..Doctor J…Barkley..Karl Malone, John Stockton..etc..don’t know if Jordan is part of the club or not..but Bird is founder of the 50-40-90 club…50- from the floor..40% from 3..and 90% free throws..and only John Stockton did it more than Bird..But Jordan’s the GOAT….maybe..maybe not..
Well, bird is that guy,i will always say that no doubt, him along with magic SAVED the nba, without them there would be no nba today, but jordan did something that bird or magic or any of those other players did, jordan took the game global, jordan was so big that international players are now in the nba more than ever, bird called mj god in gym shorts, magic was very close to jordan and said he was the greatest, most legends have a 3 peat or not, jordan has 2,the man retired in the middle of his prime(weather or not you think it was a suspension is your prerogative to decide)came back and won 3 championships in a row,he went to the boston garden and dropped 63 a scoring record that still stands today, has the biggest shoe brand in the world has 9 defensive teams 10 scoring titles the most in history,5 mvps a defensive player of the year awards and played longer than bird(longevity doesn’t hold much weight in my argument but i added it anyway) if you have bird number 1 im not mad at it because his resume and all around game is worthy of it,but jordan is in that same room as bird magic, kareem, wilt and any of the top players on that list
I have fond memories laying on the couch at my grandparent’s house on the weekends watching the NBA in the 1980’s. Very fortunate to be born in 75 to have this NBA for my younger years.
3:19 I've watched vids in which players talk about that old parquet floor. There were various dead spots in certain parquet squares. The Celtics knew the dead spots and the visitors mostly didn't. The old Boston Gardens was a tough place to play for the visiting team.
People have described the celtics arena as a whole a cold feeling when you step on the floor, shoot even when you center the ARENA,and to think how hard these floors were and larry bird was hustling and diving for loose balls all the time
Dominique had 47 points on 58% shooting, a 3-pointer, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, no turnovers. Bird had 34 points on 63% shooting, a 3-pointer, 4 rebounds, 6 assists, a steal and a block, and 4 turnovers. Honorable mentions though Rivers has 16 points, 18 assists and 2 steals, and McHale had 33 points, 13 boards, 4 blocks, on 71% shooting.
You also should know that he only scored 12 in the beginning of the game because he was suffering from bronchial pneumonia. If you watch him come down the court you can see he is struggling to breathe and was breathing through his mouth. If you go to the nba website this talked about. He was a phenomenon and as fans watching him do all the things he did made us bird fans forever. He also was dealing with Achilles tendons and bone spurs in both feet. He was just an amazing player.
Im an old Bird fan but regardless I still think Dominique deserves mad respect for his amazing abilities and how he played in this game and in general, they both made that night one of the most memorable games in NBA history. We'll never see this kind of basketball again, it was so physical back then they wouldnt even be allowed to play that aggressive in the post now I dont think. I feel the same as many others do we will never see an era like this again, but then im 64 and grew up in this era so im sure my view is a little biased. lol
I’ve never heard of anyone breaking down the best ballers as u did , excellent basketball knowledge when u said magic and Bird must be consecutive in the rankings
Thank you,and i just think thats the truth, the problem with younger generations is that they don’t even want to look at the games back then or do the research, they just look at short clips and think that is there whole game
Great reaction! Bird and Magic were dopplegangers (remarkably similar to each other). I agree with your take that Bird would win individually but Magic would win team wise due to championships. I had the priviledge of watching Jordan in person at a playoiff game. He will forever be the greatest in my mind. Yet I find myself watching old footage of Bird nowadays and enjoy watching younger folks discover Larry Legend for the first time. It's just fun to watch!
Just a little nugget for you and Jordan is right at the top for me. But in the years that Jordan played Bird they always say that he never beat Bird in the playoff which he didn't. But the other stat never seemingly disclosed is that between 84 when Jordan arrived and Bird's last year Larry beat him 17 to 11 overall during the season. Though Michael has the most unbelievable physical talents Bird was the best all around player. So I can make a case for either. No one else is even close to the two of them. I have to choose Bird for my goat though. .
Even though he lost a lot against bird, jordans numbers where better than bird, bird effected the game in many other ways though, instead of going straight at you,he used his team to win the game
My first trip to your channel. Keep in mind that sports back in these days All sports Dan Marino said that he could pass for 6,000 yards with today's rules. That is a bold statement! Bill Russell the great, a hall of famer! Said someone called football a contact sport. He went on to state that is wrong. Because the NFL was a collision sport, the NBA is a contact sport. When these men played that held true! When they fouled you they got their moneys worth. The same was true in the NFL, they did things that are illegal these days. Not only was Bird a good shooter & passer, but the greatest trash talker ever! He played mind games. He would tell the other team what he was going to do. And then do it. And then run back down the court. He played hurt. I know that pros do that all of the time. But Larry just wore his body out!!! He worked really hard!! Going after loose balls, etc..... One of Larry's funniest lines was when he complained because the other team had a white guy guarding him. Barkley tells that tail..I think it was on the Dan Patrick show. Funny........... Magic said Bird was the best ever!! High praise...... Take care!!!!!!! Later
Btw,the league was EVEN MORE of a contact sport before bill russell since the sport originated from football lol,but as far as larry bird he is always going to be high on my list,i don’t like to bring up how he played from injury because a lot of people will hold weight for him doing that but as you said a lot of people did it,and it would be unfair to compare someone in his era who did not get hurt but had the same numbers(not saying thats the case but I’m just trying to make a point) thats why id compare peaks, how were you at your very best, and quite frankly i got jordan number one on that list
I got MJ as my #1,but Wilt may be # 1. 4.6 forty at 7’1”. 300 pounds. 48” leap. Bench press 500 pounds. They changed the rules because wilt could shoot a free throw and jump from the free throw line and slam the ball. They widen the lane because of Wilt. Imagine if Wilt had played will all the HOFers that Bill Russell played with. Wilt 100 points in a game. I believe 55 rebounds in a game. Wilt’s unofficial quadruple double. Wilt led league in assists because people called him a ball hog.If he played today;I could see him(in his prime) averaging 60 points,40 rebounds,15 assists and 10 blocks a game. I read somewhere that Wilt blocked Kareem’s skyhook 23 times,in one playoff series. How many people blocked Wilt Chamberlain’s fall away jump shot? Answer zero
Charles Barkley was always my favorit player but Spud Webb was a close second. It never stopped to amaze me how that little shrimp of a man could fly like a fakking super hero. Still to this day, it never gets old- Hes 5'7... Im 6'2, I could just barely hit the rim Spud was one of those players you had to assume they were bionic, or an alien or some other from of superguman life form to make it make sense.
My favorite players growing up was first Moses Malone. Then James Worthy. Then Larry Bird, then MJ & Charles Barkley, then Kobe. Curry and Durant. Now it Luka.
Bird and Magic saved the game of basketball as a whole... best of the best...i grew up with basketball gods..Bird, Magic, Kareem, Dr.J, Moses, later on Jordan....theres absolutely nothing the sport has
Prolly tho, cause ive heard stories of bird hittin shots at the indiana facility and MJ cookin at the practice facility so Im certain that nique would be cookin at his age now
I'm not a basketball fan. But, I remember a video about Larry Bird trash talking and one of the players telling a story about a game where Larry would tell the man guarding him exactly what he was going to do step by step and score. Larry then proceeded to do exactly what he told the defender he would do. Like numerous times in that game.
Its Mekhi, so yeah that is a true story, MJ told his team to never trash talk the Legend, or else they were in trouble with him...he was not a guy to provoke on the court...ok good one, peace 🔥 Larry Legend the real 🐐🐐🐐🐐🐐😊
I loved Wilkins, but Bird is the reason he didn't win a championship! Bird was the reason a lot of great players didn't win a championship, because they played in the Eastern Conference. Houston was LA Lakers only competition. Between Boston and LA won 8 Championship's over a 10 year period ! That's incredible for basketball during the 80's. They played some ruff basketball during the 80's
I don't watch or know much about any sport really. I'm a bit of a nerd. I'm fascinated by history, geography, philosophy, etc. so my academic knowledge is pretty expansive. Because those are academic subjects I often have people remark on how smart I am, and I always remind them that almost everyone has that level of knowledge about something. I'm always impressed by just how much sports data a lot of people keep in their heads. It's not viewed as an intellectual pursuit by most people, but as far as I can tell the amount of information they have stored on sports and the amount I have on history seem relatively similar. That something is a "smart people subject" is kind of a nonsense statement.
When comparing Bird versus Jordan I think it's important to remember MJ entered the league in the 84-85 season and didn't know how to elevate a TEAM instead of individual stats. When Jordan and the Bulls met Larry and the Celtics in the playoffs, Jordan had great numbers and even dropped a playoff record 63 points in one game, but the Bulls got SWEPT winning zero games and going 0-6 in back to back seasons. I usually state it this way, if I want to sell tickets I'll pick MJ, if I want to win games I'll take Larry.
You can sell tickets with bird too lol,but i see what your saying, but peep this, bird said that jordan in his early years didn’t have a team to build or play around and i will always remember that, plus when jordan scored 63 that celtics team had 5 hofers on that team compared to jordan that had NONE for the series and the 85-86 celtics team was considered one of the greatest teams of all time, jordan also didnt have a great team compared to bird the year after either, either way its concerned, bird didnt see jordan in the playoffs at his very best and when jordan was winning,he didnt see bird at his very best
@@itzkhiiii Yeah five HOF players, but not on the starting five. Both centers Parish and Walton are in, DJ, McHale and Bird are in, but point guard Danny Ainge isn't in the hall of fame. It's actually kind of funny because Ainge is likely the best all around athlete, being the only high school player to be named an All American in 3 sports, football, baseball and basketball. Ainge also played 211 MLB games over 3 seasons for the Toronto Blue Jays while in college. I just get the feeling that McHale, Parish and the rest wouldn't be HOF players without Bird pushing up the intensity and making the team better, I don't get that feeling with Jordan. But yeah Jordan's team wasn't great in 85-86. I thought Pippen was there the second time the Bulls got swept in 86-87, but I was wrong he wasn't. Pippen did show up for the 87-88 season and as much as I hate agreeing with Isiah Thomas, he was right when he said Jordan wasn't a factor in the decade of the 80's. Hey, I'm the same age as Scottie Pippen, damn I'm OLD.
I agree with thomas as well, jordan was NOT a factor in the 80s,he would torch everyone individually, and it took pippen a couple years before he was a great player is was not good out the gate, the year jordan won his first playoff series, pippen was averaging 7 points a game on the bench, also i dont like to use the if’s in statements because you dont ever see the flip side to that, the fact of the matter is that, birds teams where ALWAYS way better than Jordan’s teams when facing each other
To credit Birds greatness-> he played at 80s we admit he was greates at 2k20+ and stuff of Legend keep come up of shells with whs tapes😂 so legendary he was... other was just great compered to him even MJ. He actually got slapped by legend before he finally got his ring😂 that's is 1 of reasons he was so happy about it lol😂
Really They Probably Could Have Won Game 7 Also. But When Willis Put His Figure On Bird's Chest & Said That To Wilkins; That Was A Big Difference In The Game. Larry Could Trash Talk Other's & Mainly The One's He Knew It Would Work On. But Doing It To Him Never Worked Out Good, ha ha ha. That's Why Wilkins Wasn't To Happy With His Players Remark. He Has Seen Other's Try To Do That Back To Bird & It Always Failed. Bird Did Pick At Wilkins At Time's Like On, Wilkins Trying To Defend Bird. But That Was Always In A Joking Mainer & Bird Really Did Like Him & Respected Him. I Heard Bird Had Only Kinda Criticized Wilkins One Time; Saying That Wilkins Needed To Learn To Be Team Player & Not Be a "Ball Hog". That Was In Wilkins Early Time In. And Wilkins Did Get Better As Time Went On Doing The Team-Playing. But Even When Bird Said That It Wasn't In A Disrespectful Way Because He Also Said What A Remarkably He Had Also. Could People Notice How Bird Was Feeling Good? I Noticed It. Sense Bird Would Hardly Ever Let His Team/Coach/Doctor On The Team Know Just How Bad He Was Hurting OR Not Feeling Good. Not Sure If They Knew About Him Playing With Bronchial-Pneumonia, Because It Wasn't Stated In The " Sports Part Of The News Paper's" Until After The Game Was Over, They Found Out After & Not Before. Thank You For Sharing This One
I watched that game, as a former Lakers' fan, I wanted Bird to lose. Loved Dominique, but young stud Willes, a bad bad man, messed up. Probably one of the best 4th quarters of bball ever ❤❤🎉🎉🎉
At that time Boston was almost unbeatable at home. For two years they only lost three games at home in the regular season. They had five Hall of Fame players.
Yeah not even a question bird is #1 trash talking goat if mj Barkley Miller and the glove who are all top end trash talkers all agree that he's #1 its gotta be true
i will put prime Larry against anybody any era most complete ballplayer ever, “If I need a shot to win a game, I’d pick Jordan. If I need a shot to save my life, I’d pick Bird.”
I believe that both teams deserved to win. This was one of the best games ever and I'm glad they did such a good job of getting the guys together to document it. Kevin Willis did not screw that game up with the finger pointing. Larry was just due in the fourth quarter. That's my belief. Of course the finger didn't do much to help but the real story was Larry's determination at crunch time, and he was due. Agree?
One of the few times I'll agree with Olli😂. Like c'mon on man, if you're gonna do a cover you better own it. The original with Teddy Pendergrass is better.
To me, team awards mean almost as little as the best sportsman trophy when comparing players in terms of GOAT status. If a player reached but never won the final due to not stepping up, that would hurt them. If said player did step up but the team sucked then it wouldn't hurt them in my view.
The athletes back in these days played for the LOVE of their sport. Not for giant, big contracts. Keep in mind, these players agent gets a percentage of the deal they can close. The love of their sport. is what drove them............... Don't get me wrong, they earned more money than the average guy. AND the rules were different. A lot softer. Granted the owners these days have SO much money invested in to some of these players they don't want them injured and sitting out! But was more fun to watch back in the day...............................
Magic has a couple more rings than Bird but that's it and he had way more help than Bird. I do agree Magic and Bird go hand and hand. I watched them save the league then watched MJ take it to new heights as a Bird fan. I was in my teens with Bird and Magic. 20s with MJ
I think the best argument for Bird being the GOAT is that he lacked the same level of physical abilities that the players he's been compared against had. That is frequently commented on, but I feel it's not sufficiently appreciated. Consider if Bird had had the physical capabilities of MJ - can you imagine what he would have accomplished? Larry Bird is the GOAT because he did more with relatively less (in the way of physical talents) than any other player in NBA history.
♥ Maybe check out NEIL PEART Buddy Rich HONOR????? Surprises awaits!! :) ♥AND, or... Victor Wooten bass music????????? :) “Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you believe in Him so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” ~ Romans 15:13
It wasn't this game or series I dont think it was the same season but there was one game a playoff game I think where bird went to get a rebound & was fighting for it as a loose ball slammed his jaw on the floor & ended up breaking his jaw. he left the game to the locker room celtics up but the other team either the hawks or lakers I think started taking advantage of Bird being off court to the point that Bird broken jaw & all came back on the court to finish the game & ended up making sure Celtics won by several points after the other team had clawed back most of the points the lead was when Bird got hurt. You wouldn't/ wont see Kobe or Lebron do that even in their youth let alone their 30s. You can't even compare Lebron to Bird or Johnson or Thomas or Wilkins.
@@itzkhiiii No they didn't lebron & kobe cry/ cried over cramps & have to be carried off the court... Bird broke his jaw & walked off then walked back on to help his team get the lead back. I have more respect for Kobe though I was never a fan then I will ever have for Lebron but neither player is on the same level as Jordan Bird Thomas Magic Steph curry isn't either but he's better then Kobe or Lebron. Name one example where lebron or Kobe actually played hurt. Kobe was nothing once shaq left shaq protected Kobe allowing Kobe to be the ball hog & get the glory when it worked. Lebron continues to show he is not the kobe or jordan or Magic or bird he thinks he is no matter if he played top of his game for 40 years.
Okay so,kobe broke his finger and still won a championship in 2010,EVEN WHEN SHAQ WAS THERE he sprained his ankle really bad, scored 45 with 15 in the fourth quarter WHILE SHAQ FOULED OUT,to win the championship,he used to have all types of nicks and knacks and still played,if you took one of those x-rays where it would show his injury report,it would be all red, kobe tore his achilles and still sunk 2 free throws AND WALKED off the court,i think you got to do a little more research about kobe but thats real disrespectful to say about him,the same obligation jordan had to play every game, kobe had it too As far as lebron,he has had moments where he would play through injury, you just saw lebron get carried off the court one time and think he does that all the time,NO,there has been MANY occasions where he would sprain his ankle and STILL drop 40 THE SAME GAME,i grew up watching the last stretch of kobe, and the prime of lebron so i know what im talking about
@@itzkhiiii lol first of all a broken finger is not that big of a deal certainly not a broken jaw & broken many bones including several fingers on both hands. A broken Jaw makes eating normal foods near impossible. I've broken my arm to the point the elbow was sticking out an inch & a half I continued playing the 2nd period of hockey in high school after getting slammed into the boards during a power kill. Was the broken finger on his shooting hand? That's seriously a joke. Not even a paper cut.
Yes,it was on his shooting hand, same thing for jordan, highschool and the pros are at a different level, these guys faced this adversity and WON A CHIP WITH IT
I tell you what I think!! The difference for me is I believe you can't really compare Magic with Bird using stats. You are talking about two players who played different positions meaning their jobs in the team construct was different. The real question is the impact each had within the team construct and when viewing it from that position I believe their impact was equally important to their team. For those who don't understand the team concept then you will argue who is the best all day and will never agree.
Magic best point guard of all time. He was not the best player on the team 3 of Magics 5 rings Kareem. They gave Magic the MVP award of the finals his rookie year. You know who was still the best player in the league? Kareem. MVP that year. Who was finals MVP for Magic's next ring? Kareem. Magic and Larry were good for the league. Media hype
Magic best point guard all time. Not the best player on Lakers for 3 of Magics 5 rings. Kareem. He was MVP of the NBA when Magic was given the finals MVP rookie year. Kareem dominated the series. Could not play game 6. Magic had big game 6. The league love it. Media hype. Bird is top 5 all time. Mike Wilt Kareem Dream Bird
I mean, I get wvat youre saying... But Magic LITERALLY had another Top5 GOAT contenter as his team mate in Kareem. Imagine if Bird had Kobe or Dr.J as his wing man. Magic would probably not have had the more successful resume. And yea, normally I dont like including team mates in the discussion (even though logically they should be) cuz it makes the discussion so messy and hard to evaluate... But whe you discussing two contenders in the GOAT debate and the team mate of one side is ANOTHER GOAT contender... I dont think you can just ignore that. Its not "Who is better, Bird or Magic?" Its not "Who is better, Bird or Kareem?" Its "Who is better Bird or Magic AND Kareem?" which is a kinda fakking *_insane_* concept at face value.
And imagine putting up all star numbers 4 years with a broken back and Double Achilles surgery how many fings did Jordan teams get while Mr Bird was in the league because Bird Celtics SWEPT Jordan teams 2 years in a row in the playoffs
I really like when yall say that, like jordan lost to bird and then quit basketball lol,how can yall fault jordan for losing when he had a terrible team but we can fault bird when he played 12 seasons due to injury, both situations were unfortunate and resulting in them not winning
This man has the most complete 'all-around' trophy case in basketball history!
* College player of the year
* Rookie of the year
* 3 consecutive 3pt Shootout wins
(When it actually "mattered")
* Founded the 50/40/90 club
* 3 consecutive MVP's
* 3 All Defensive Team selections
(Prior to injury issues)
* Averaged 10 rebounds for a career
(As a small forward, more than Patrick Ewing! Even with all the injuries & a solid frontline to fight with for boards)
* Swept the GOAT twice & beat EVERYONE in his era
* The 'lefty' game
* 2nd alltime in win percentage
* 2 Finals MVP's
* Coach of the Year Award
* Executive of the Year
He may or may not be the GOAT.
Definitely,thank you for watching bro
He even broke his hand or something after he was drafted and before he signed his deal but was signed against the doctors advise
@@cbogolo that doctor would have cost Boston a lot of good runs and championships.
@@cbogolo Yup, his right index finger. It's still messed up after multiple surgeries.
But, did he have a (deep announcer voice) "DOUBBBBLE DOUBLLLLLE!!!?!"
I’m 60, saw this live, it was special.
The NBA needs a "trash talk" award, and they need to call it "The Bird!"
Lol
Yeah, and awarding it to a player, they could “flip them The Bird.” “And The Bird flips to….. Michael Jordan!”
???what
You could call the trophy,Giving someone the Bird(middle finger)
@@Bobal27just saw this. Exactly what I was thinking
That is why Larry Legend is the GOAT
I love ‘Nique’s jumpshot. Watch his feet. Looked like
Scissors. He always did that. I loved it!!
Literally!!
Lol
That's hilarious!!
Larry Legend
What always surprised me was that everyone saw the dunks that Dominique Wilkins did and thought all he had was those power dunks. If you watch him, he had an amazing touch when he shot.
Thats usually how it is,whatever is the most entertaining for that person, thats what they label them as,in this case they labeled him as a slasher
When you have legends talk about Bird the way they do...
After the 18:25 shot, i love the little "look left, look right" move by Bird. He was known for knowing where everyone was at all times, and that little look routine shows you why. He just made the basket! Did he celebrate? Nope. He looked for the field layot asap.
Love your commentary and no sweat that you may never change your mind.. you recognize the greatness of the ogs and that matters.
Thank you,i appreciate that
dont forget Larry was healthy for under 7 years and he was 18 and 11 against MJ and 6 and 0 in the playoffs as Bird was beginning to amass injuries
I think jordan lost 17 straight games against bird
Nice reaction. You understand the game..
Thank you i appreciate that
Great choice, good narration and I have never seen this before. Killin
Thank you i appreciate that
Larry only played for 13 seasons. He played well , even with a broken back and surgery on both Achilles tendons.
By the way, you can see full games from his senior year at Indiana State on their way to the playoffs.
Yea most likely it is true
They called him, Larry legend while he was still playing
Great argument if the NBA wasn’t a team game. EVERY all time great lost until they had a team around them.
I have fond memories laying on the couch at my grandparent’s house on the weekends watching the NBA in the 1980’s. Very fortunate to be born in 75 to have this NBA for my younger years.
I remember watching this very game.
Dominique was known as a high flyer, but one aspect of his game that I liked was his bank shot. Not enough players utilize that.
Yes for sure, that was one of his strengths for real
You also should know that he only scored 12 in the beginning of the game because he was suffering from bronchial pneumonia. If you watch him come down the court you can see he is struggling to breathe and was breathing through his mouth. If you go to the nba website this talked about. He was a phenomenon and as fans watching him do all the things he did made us bird fans forever. He also was dealing with Achilles tendons and bone spurs in both feet. He was just an amazing player.
Yea,i heard about the condition he was in at the beginning of the game it just proves his greatness is unmatched
@@itzkhiiii love watching your take on these videos. Keep up the great work ❤️
Thank you for watching!
You can see it is his face. He looks like he has a fever. I noticed that before I found out about the pneumonia.
Another good reaction. Thanks.
Thank you for watching
I really enjoy your narrations…keep it up!!
Thank you,i appreciate that
5:24 The Hawks got nationwide attention when Ted Turner broadcast the games on TBS. TBS was a cable channel you could get on the basic.
I feel the same as many others do we will never see an era like this again, but then im 64 and grew up in this era so im sure my view is a little biased. lol
Yea i don’t think we will see that again, but i think it would get close as far as physicality is concerned
Hey Mekhi, Great video. Yes, Absolutely please react to that video mentioned early on about Domingue Wilkins. Thank you. Much Love!!
Okay, thank you I will do it
Great reaction!
Thank you and i wish i had the privilege to watch jordan play back then
Happy seeing boys with really strong mid-range games
I love to see it
Very true MJ did not just say it to his team he said it with authority and demanded they did not trash talk Bird
True. That was Jordan 's rule.
Wow lol
@@itzkhiiii but know it was the same from Larry .. He told them never to trash talk Michael Jordan!
really??
@@itzkhiiii truth!! It's in one of these compilations! Lol
Please do a reaction to that other video. I can't wait to hear your reaction to it.
For sure
That is true. also, MJ also said Bird taught him how to trash talk
Well done young man. Much respect. I have Jordan and Bird at the top.
Thank you
My first trip to your channel.
Still to this day, it never gets old-
Hes 5'7...
Im 6'2, I could just barely hit the rim
Spud was one of those players you had to assume they were bionic, or an alien or some other from of superguman life form to make it make sense.
Lol i agree,he was a freakish athlete at that height
My favorite players growing up was first Moses Malone. Then James Worthy. Then Larry Bird, then MJ & Charles Barkley, then Kobe. Curry and Durant. Now it Luka.
Bird and Magic saved the game of basketball as a whole... best of the best...i grew up with basketball gods..Bird, Magic, Kareem, Dr.J, Moses, later on Jordan....theres absolutely nothing the sport has
Wilkins had that crazy perfect 3 body.... 6'8, bouncy... could shoot passably
For sure
@itzkhiiii unique looks good at 60 or whatever... prolly still kills at the courts down the road, or at the family bbq
Prolly tho, cause ive heard stories of bird hittin shots at the indiana facility and MJ cookin at the practice facility so
Im certain that nique would be cookin at his age now
I'm not a basketball fan. But, I remember a video about Larry Bird trash talking and one of the players telling a story about a game where Larry would tell the man guarding him exactly what he was going to do step by step and score. Larry then proceeded to do exactly what he told the defender he would do. Like numerous times in that game.
Larry always did that
Larry himself has said everything you said to finish.
If you look at Bird's eyes in that 7th game with the Dominique, you can tell he was in pain.
I agree with thomas as well, jordan was NOT a factor in the 80s,he would torch everyone individually, and it took pippen a couple years before he was a great player is was not good out the gate, the year jordan won his first playoff series, pippen was averaging 7 points a game on the bench, also i dont like to use the if’s in statements because you dont ever see the flip side to that, the fact of the matter is that, birds teams where ALWAYS way better than Jordan’s teams when facing each other
Ah the 80’s NBA, between bird, magic,Kareem, Jordan, Barkley, etc we were spoiled. As a white boy, bird held a special place.
Yall were definitely spoiled
To credit Birds greatness-> he played at 80s we admit he was greates at 2k20+ and stuff of Legend keep come up of shells with whs tapes😂 so legendary he was... other was just great compered to him even MJ. He actually got slapped by legend before he finally got his ring😂 that's is 1 of reasons he was so happy about it lol😂
Shawn Kemp dunked pretty powerfully also
Yea yea
BIRD 🐐
I do like players like Dominique who play for one team (mostly).
Dominique was great,i liked him because of him and MJ in the dunk contest
Jordan had one rule for his team.....never trash talk Larry, ever. .
Larry Bird is a GOAT.
John stockton was another great shorter player.. he was good stealing and threes
And leading assist player
Yeah not even a question bird is #1 trash talking goat if mj Barkley Miller and the glove who are all top end trash talkers all agree that he's #1 its gotta be true
100%
Dominique is actually high on my list. He's underrated
Very
i will put prime Larry against anybody any era most complete ballplayer ever, “If I need a shot to win a game, I’d pick Jordan.
Agree?
I 100% agree, both teams had a real chance of winning so i could go either way,BUT Kevin willis screwed it up the game prior for the last shot
Someone finally said it - the Celtics would outsmart the opposing teams.
M J never beat Bird in the play off
They only faced 2 times in the playoffs,if you want to take that as your leading reason,go right ahead
It was a war, and Bird and 'Nique were warriors.
One of the few times I'll agree with Olli😂. Like c'mon on man, if you're gonna do a cover you better own it.
The original with Teddy Pendergrass is better.
They didn't call Nique the human highlight reel for nothing.
To me, team awards mean almost as little as the best sportsman trophy when comparing players in terms of GOAT status. If a player reached but never won the final due to not stepping up, that would hurt them. If said player did step up but the team sucked then it wouldn't hurt them in my view.
Fair point
Top 5 Mike Wilt Kareem Bird Russell or Akeem
Larry Bird is the best player ever.
say his name.......Legend
In this series Bird was getting worn out from all the injuries
The athletes back in these days played for the LOVE of their sport. Not for giant, big contracts. Keep in mind, these players agent gets a percentage of the deal they can close. The love of their sport. is what drove them............... Don't get me wrong, they earned more money than the average guy. AND the rules were different. A lot softer. Granted the owners these days have SO much money invested in to some of these players they don't want them injured and sitting out! But was more fun to watch back in the day...............................
it is funny how dominique refuses to admin larry was better… u see it over and over
Magic has a couple more rings than Bird but that's it and he had way more help than Bird. I do agree Magic and Bird go hand and hand. I watched them save the league then watched MJ take it to new heights as a Bird fan. I was in my teens with Bird and Magic. 20s with MJ
Dominique was a freak, his vertical was different different.
He was a power dunker as well
3 out of 5 of magics championships Kareem was the top dog of the championship series
Ok ok
I think the best argument for Bird being the GOAT is that he lacked the same level of physical abilities that the players he's been compared against had. That is frequently commented on, but I feel it's not sufficiently appreciated. Consider if Bird had had the physical capabilities of MJ - can you imagine what he would have accomplished? Larry Bird is the GOAT because he did more with relatively less (in the way of physical talents) than any other player in NBA history.
Probably way more if bird had that

25:20 I do respect Micheal Jordan the GOAT, but it's hard for me to watch vids of him because he crushed my soul so many times.
How did he crush your soul? Lol
If you love basketball and you know nothing about Larry Bird you need to educate yourself. They don’t call him Larry Legend for nothing.
MJ, Bird, Magic, Kobe, & Lebron or Curry
Kareem, Hakeem, Barkley, Duncan, KG, Shaq
How can a Bird also be a Goat??!!😂😅
Lol
It's true Jordan told his teammates never talk trash or back , there's a youtube video of it
I think it Patrick Ewing that said jordan and bird used to talk trash to each other on the dream team
My top 5 has 6 players. Bird and MJ 1A 1B anyway you want to put them. Jabar, Hakeem, Magic and Kobe
Kobe did stuff like that multiple times, same as lebron, thats very impressive but bird is not the only player to do so
@@itzkhiiii No they didn't lebron & kobe cry/ cried over cramps & have to be carried off the court...
Okay so,kobe broke his finger and still won a championship in 2010,EVEN WHEN SHAQ WAS THERE he sprained his ankle really bad, scored 45 with 15 in the fourth quarter WHILE SHAQ FOULED OUT,to win the championship,he used to have all types of nicks and knacks and still played,if you took one of those x-rays where it would show his injury report,it would be all red, kobe tore his achilles and still sunk 2 free throws AND WALKED off the court,i think you got to do a little more research about kobe but thats real disrespectful to say about him,the same obligation jordan had to play every game, kobe had it too
As far as lebron,he has had moments where he would play through injury, you just saw lebron get carried off the court one time and think he does that all the time,NO,there has been MANY occasions where he would sprain his ankle and STILL drop 40 THE SAME GAME,i grew up watching the last stretch of kobe, and the prime of lebron so i know what im talking about
@@itzkhiiii lol first of all a broken finger is not that big of a deal certainly not a broken jaw & broken many bones including several fingers on both hands.
Yes,it was on his shooting hand, same thing for jordan, highschool and the pros are at a different level, these guys faced this adversity and WON A CHIP WITH IT
If larry and magic switched teams the outcome would be the same.
You think so?
@@itzkhiiii yeah I do they are that even
I tell you what I think!!
I mean yeah, thats a valid way to look at it
Magic best point guard of all time. He was not the best player on the team 3 of Magics 5 rings
Kareem. They gave Magic the MVP award of the finals his rookie year. You know who was still the best player in the league? Kareem. MVP that year. Who was finals MVP for Magic's next ring? Kareem. Magic and Larry were good for the league. Media hype
iTZ Mekhi, you would have enjoyed that Golden Era of the NBA, but then you be old like me.
Lol,it would be worth it
@@itzkhiiii Old age isn't all it's cracked up to be.

Magic thought Bird was the best...
Facts about magic,if kareem didnt get hurt, kareem would of gotten that finals mvp for sure
Its not "Who is better, Bird or Magic?"
Its not "Who is better, Bird or Kareem?"
Its "Who is better Bird or Magic AND Kareem?" which is a kinda fakking *_insane_* concept at face value.
GOAT Bird did everything better
Great content but who wants to see you in the lower corner for the entire video.
Makes sense,i used to have the video i was reacting to in the lower corner, but people said to make me smaller and the video bigger
